11k$ is not bad for a pair delivered to me; I could find only two pairs available in the world! The amps are power-transformered for 220/230VAC; I'll be converting a 120VAC dedicated branch circuit running into the musicroom into a 240VAC* circuit and a US-spec. 20-amp 120V./ 240VAC powercords.. The 6GV8/ECL85 frontend tube is a triode-Voltage-gain/pentode driver for FOUR 300Bs in parallel.

Will be driving the MR/treble of my 96dB-sensitive Serenity Super-7s.. Currently using 60-watts-per-chassis Atma-Sphere M60s.

Nice catch! How are you going to get the 240VAC? A dedicated transformer with two secondary windings? Is it gonna be a stand-alone solution, or built into the electric box?

Thank you.

Did you see my "* One of the 'magic' properties of American home-wiring concepts" in my post? I'll be using the same method the North-American electrical industry uses to create 240V. single-phase linea--attaching the 'positive' lead normally and attaching the 'neutral' lead to the output of a breaker attached to the other 120V. leg in the breaker box.. Since the two legs are opposite in phase, one gets 240VAC across the 'hot' and 'neutral' terminals.. That's how our electric kitchen ranges and clothes dryers are powered.. We'll remove one regular 120V duplex outlet from each of the left and right trios on my front wall and replace each with a specially colored and clearly labeled duplex outlet powered by the now-240VAC branch circuit.

Here's an OLD pic where the trio of trios is visible.. Since I now have a PS Audio P20 power regenerator and all audio equipment is plugged into that, the dedicated-line-driven trio of trios is essentially unused.

That's a brilliant solution, I have o admit. Are the amplifiers rated 240VAC, or 230VAC? It can matter since the voltage in the mains can go up to some extent (don't know US standards for that), and it can be a little too hot for the amps.

Boo Hoo--the shipping crates won't be ready until early September! Meanwhile I'm collecting parts...outlets, stanless-steel tripple-outlet plates, entry-level powercords, etc.

Those are tube-based. What will they stand on? It makes a world of difference. I think I would start with a 1" piece of plywood before going into audio accessories for some reference.

I have an 87" Salamander equipment lowboy...
...coming to contain all my backend electronics.. I'll not be using the rear panels which mostly close the middle from ventilation.. I'll use some kind of antivibration feet under its 10 posts, and I'll use some sort of vibration-absorbing/isolating feet under all the equipment, as I do for all my stuff.. I also have 3cm-thick granite slabs...
2019Feb09_amppad1_1500w.jpg
...I used to place the amps on until I was switching speakers and amps too often.. The single ampfoot visible in this old pic is a Herbies TenderFoot, but I now use IsoAcoustics OREAs under poweramps and main frontend equipment.. Also have some sorbothane 2" hemispheres and also sping-based isolators to try.

I expect the Salamander's top shelf to be a little stiffer and nonvibrating than the thinnish (5/8" ?) shelf of the amp/speaker stand pictured above.. If not maybe I'll add a slab of 3/4" MDF to its bottom.. We'll see.

If the power transformers are spec'd for 50Hz mains, they might saturate with the 60Hz used in the US. Check how hot they get and if they buzz.

For three days now they've been parked at Heathrow trying to clear US Customs.

But maybe I'll have my new/old Viva Auroras by the end of the week (Sep. 09).

Adrian, its actually the other way round, a 50Hz transformer will actually be running at approx 20% lower flux density.

And arrive they finally did, this afternoon the 8th.. Custom crates were quite well done, and the amps were well packed..
2022Sep08_DSC0277_crate open_1500h.jpg
Ended up tipping the amps out of the crates.. These amps are heavy and slippery enough that I've finally met a monoamp I can't carry easily, and I almost dropped the first one.. Will try OveGlove tube-removal gloves next time.

One tube in the right-channel amp arced on timed turn-on and blewup the fuse.. Don't know if that fuseholder is salvagable; I'll try to get a couple from Kevalin tomorrow.

FWIW, my daughter and I will be driving to and from Oakland, CA next Tuesday and Wednesday to retrieve a pair of DeHavilland 845-G poweramps, so I'll have a stereo system by next Thursday.

Anyone have one or two Psvane 'HiFi Vacuum Tube 300B' tubes they'd like to be rid of and sell to me? I'm not concerned with 'matching ones', only with having enough of the same brand and type to evaluate the amps.. Pls PM me if you do.

Ordered a new pair of Psvane 300Bs from China; should be here next week.. Ordered 2 fuseholders from Amazon (!) and fuses from Digi-Key.. Two resistors on the plate of the blown tube burned; will have a local repairman replace them.. I believe Jon Ketcham will soon be sending me fuseholders and resistors.. Meanwhile I'm enjoying my system driven by my parts-improved Atma-Sphere MA-1 amps, which are still the finest-sounding amps I've ever heard.

While I'm listening to this GLORIUS-sounding system, I wonder why I'm working so hard and spending so much money on 'better' amps, but that's the curse of the audiofool.

Tomorrow and Wed. my daughter and I will be driving 750 miles-times-two to-and-from Oakland to retrieve the pair of deHavilland 845-G poweramps I bought.. Oh yes...the Viva Auroras should arrive this week; THIS is what's called an embarrassment of riches.

As long as you are enjoying the process :) I like to audition gear from time to time, even though I'm delighted with my current setup. It's part of the game.
