Good mid-price audiophile switches

If you are just using one port on the switch, Edison of Ediscreation would recommend the Fiberbox II instead of a switch, though he makes both. Come standard with LPS built in but can be further upgraded. Fiberbox II is about $1000 shipped. Mine is burning in now, haven’t tried any audio through it and won’t till next week.
whats your port config of the silent switch?
Mine's port 8 incoming, port 2 to destination device.. I prefer this

I asked Silent Angel which ports to use on my Bonn N8 and they advised router on port 1 and streamer on port 8. I didn't bother to test, just went with that. I asked about the reasoning but got no response.

My dealer told me he found port 8 and port 2 (i think) to sound better.
I ABed port 1,port 3 vs port 8 and port 2, preferred the latter. it seemed airier, less congested etc.

However manufacturer states port 1 as incoming, and some other ports for devices
and it doesn't matter which port (i think)

Sorry, but I think it's all kind of silly since all the ports are the same and go to the same main switch chip on the ZyXEL GS-108B v3 board that they use...

When I tested 15 different switches, I found indeed on SOME of the units there was a sound difference between ports. I also found that in every instance the 8 port versions sounded better than the 5 port. My totally wild guess is it may have something to do with interference or something like that.

I don't know the technical, I just know that I went in expecting no difference but consistently heard the difference. Totally agree it makes no sense.

That's not correct. AudioStore/VortexBox UK has been an excellent dealer for Sonore, Small Green Computer, and UpTone for many years. He also builds so fine servers himself. Give Martin a ring!
Thanks. Never heard of that business.

When I've sold me surplus to requirements good mid-price audiophile switch, I may recycle the cash into the Sonore FMC.

Did you ever get a chance to audition only the Fiber Box II within your system, then listen with the switch added to it? When you speak of using one port, do you mean just using a streamer? Currently, the only port that is being used in my router is for the Aurender. Not sure if adding the Ediscreation switch would make a drastic improvement. Thanks!

I used the Silent Switch OCXO (extreme) for a month -

currently using the Fibrebox ii (Standard edition), tho it didn't quite give me the "wow" sensation.

not sure what does the FB extreme come with.

So just to clarify, were you impressed with the Silent Switch? The FB extreme comes with better parts. Thanks.

Yeah.
I think that the fibrebox has a few potential points of sq degredation. The upcoming etherRegen v2 is possibly better for optical isolation (etc)

do you find your music sounds louder with the Fibrebox?

wat ethernet cables do you use? I tested sotm & sablon and thought this was darn good.

I have the extreme version...I love it. Lowered the noise floor, sounded more musical. I'm using the Ediscreation ethernet cable. I think using the separate power supply is adding a lot of benefits.

Plugged the Fiberbox II in yesterday (it was well-broken-in a warmed up while I was on vacation), in place of the SilentSwitch, and did some listening tests. It clearly cleans up the sound, specifically notable on very close-miked acoustic guitar that I was listening to (Wailin' Jennies - One Voice), but it is also possible cleaning a small amount of the 'life' or texture out of the music as well. Interestingly, the music sounded a bit quieter with the Fiberbox II installed (perhaps noise reduction has this effect?). I've heard this effect in some ways before from some cable testing a while ago. I opted to leave it in the system, my wife would probably have chosen the switch instead. I'll re-assess after a little more time.

I tried the ethernet cable at streamer.
& between my network devices (with Sablon ethernet), oddly the SQ isn't good.

Edicreations will debut their new series of switches & Fiberbox at the Hong Kong HiFi show this weekend.

Between a switch and a streamer (the last step in the ethernet chain), you will get best results with either a short unshielded cable or shielded cable in which the shield is grounded only at one end (which you put at the switch). Most audiophile network cables are shielded and most have this shield grounded to both metal RJ45 plugs; this allows RFI noise to travel down the shield which undermines the good work of the switch.

Do you know whether the Ediscreation is shielded, and whether the shield is grounded at both ends? You can test this quite easily if you have either a multimeter or a cheap ethernet cable tester off a well-known auction site*. It's definitely worth knowing how to do this test if you're going to experiment with network cables. There are some great cables out there for elsewhere in your network, and the Ediscreation may well be among them, but a great cable elsewhere might not be as great between switch and streamer.

*using either requires no specialist skills and no interfering with the integrity of the cable; I can advise how to do it if helpful, and you'll be surprised how easy it is.

Why not contact & ask Edison directly?
