Now have all-new tubes in the Auroras, mostly Linlais from Grant/Prem.Vac.Tubes. All-four 845s in the regulator positions are black-coated... ...and now the tubes' light is not so visible on my Panavision-ratio screen when I watch movies. Tried to repair the Allnic A-6000s' blown fuses...

Details you want, huh???? The strenths of the Auroras are their overall musicality--their combination of tonality...natural warmth, 'wholeness', 'roundness'...and HIGH rez and duplication of the space of the recording venue (which, of course, go hand in hand).. The deHavillands have the rez...

The Linlai Global Elite E-6SN7... The Linlai Global Elite E-6SN7s arrived today.. I plugged them into the deHavilland 845-Gs and warmed everything an hour or so.. Started playing music and discovered one of those amps had about 20dB less level; replaced the LL with a TSOP and the missing gain...

    No; they're equipped with Tung-Sol oval-plate 'N7s in the Voltage-gain sections.

Well, yes and no.. One achieves 240VAC from a 120VAC branch circuit by moving the latter's neutral conductor to the output of a breaker attached to the other 120VAC leg already within the breaker panel.

Finally an observation/opionion from my amp comparo.. I still have the 3 pairs of amps--see a post above--arranged on my lowboy, and last nite I concentrated on my substantially improved Atma-Spere MA-1s v. the Viva Auroras.. The A-Ss sounded as excellent as ever but not as warmly toned as I...

The Allnics were and will be powered by a 240VAC line I had adapted from a 120VAC dedicated line.. Turning on the two Allnics the first time is my only experience with that power, so who knows? Not me. The Opera 845Ss were powered by my PS Audio P20 regenerator and my normal long, custom-made...

Well, we move forward, and we move backward.. One of the Operas quit making music overnite and is now making low-level snapping noises, so another pair of amps temporarily bites the dust.. I'll remove them and probably get the Atma-Spheres back up and concentrate on comparing the A-Ss, Auroras...

After I obtained a 'feel' for the Auroras (that I shall NOT share until I've listened again), I decided to fill the bench with other candidates.. I started with the Allnics, but the blown-tube-and-fuse amp wouldn't run with 3 tubes, so I excluded those. These are the Viva Auroras centered, the...

Running. After a brief comparison against the A-S MA-1s, probably I'll install replace the MA-1s with the Allnic A-6000s with each running three tubes (quoted to be OK to do) and get those burning in.. (With my electrical-rate plan, my conscience will allow me to run these things 20 hours per...

Well, morricab, your comments prompted me to rescue the Auroras from my entryway on their ways out, to my equipment lowboy; my goodbuddyaudiofool, stronger and younger than I am, moved them. Tubes and music Sunday. :)

Finally to the next stage of my quest.. I now have a pair of deHavilland 845-Gs that have had many parts upgraded with Kara Chaffe's assistance, a new pair of Opera Consonance 845Ss, and my 'old' pair of Allnic A-6000s.. I also received the pair of Viva Auroras, but at over 90 pounds, each amp...

Have pair of A-6000s coming from England

Ordered a new pair of Psvane 300Bs from China; should be here next week.. Ordered 2 fuseholders from Amazon (!) and fuses from Digi-Key.. Two resistors on the plate of the blown tube burned; will have a local repairman replace them.. I believe Jon Ketcham will soon be sending me fuseholders and...

What are you currently listening to (Classical)?

BEETHOVEN! Listened to my multichannel Sym.5 and decided to hear more...and found I had only ONE.. Then searched PRESTO and bought six more...by Masur, Herreweghe, I. Fischer, Janowski, Tilson Thomas, and Honeck.. Started with Masur's Sym. 2 last nite.. That's one of Philips's 4-channel...

Have pair of A-6000s coming from England

And arrive they finally did, this afternoon the 8th.. Custom crates were quite well done, and the amps were well packed.. Ended up tipping the amps out of the crates.. These amps are heavy and slippery enough that I've finally met a monoamp I can't carry easily, and I almost dropped the first...

    Salamander lowboy gear stand

It arrived this afternoon, drop-shipped from Salamander... https://www.salamanderdesigns.com/av-cabinets/synergy-model-147/ ...and shipped via FedEx Freight.. The two men were courteous and happy to carry it into my musicroom, and each received a nice tip.. The 'shelves' are heavy and 1-1/8"...

Have found and agreed to purchase a pair of DeHavilland 845-Gs which MAY benefit from some parts upgrades.. Unfortunately for me, they're 750 miles (1200km) away from me and can't be shipped.. I'm scheming to drive up there in a few days to retrieve them.
