Bridge, Streamer, Network Player, Roon Endpoint, Renderer - wtf

Thanks for the feedback, especially a solution to using roon without the nucleus - tho seems like I need to keep the pc running for that to work. I'm actually searching for confirmation that my understanding of these various boxes and the vocabulary is accurate.

Bridge, Streamer, Network Player, Roon Endpoint, Renderer - wtf

I feel like an idiot. But, I simply can't seem find a clear definition nor explanation of what these words referring to boxes upstream of the DAC actually do and how they differ. Some boxes with what appear to have similar capabilities have completely different names, while others with similar...

Lumin X1: Enabling an Even Simpler Yet Better Sounding System

I was aiming for the Mutec or the Cybershaft (which Alex/Uptone uses bcs it was gifted to him). But, Alex recommended Afterdark as being a v good way to go for the $. And, Adrian at Afterdark strongly recommended the AD product even after I indicated a preferred interest in the Cybershaft bcs...

Lumin X1: Enabling an Even Simpler Yet Better Sounding System

Well the clock arrived today. Plugged it in. Took about an hour for it to settle in and get to work. Simply put, the improvements are substantial - much better bass articulation, v liquid and rather effortless musical presentation, stage depth and overall spaciousness is terrific. Easily...

Lumin X1: Enabling an Even Simpler Yet Better Sounding System

Yes, optical out the etherregen and into X1. Same setup I had before but with a netgear switch. Re the clock, the X1 does not accept a clock input, but the the etherregen does.

Lumin X1: Enabling an Even Simpler Yet Better Sounding System

Did you ever try a clock upstream of the X1? I have one and am interested in learning about the possible benefits - I just emailed Lumin the question. FWIW, the clock is of interest because I just added the Uptone Etherregen upstream of the Lumin - huge improvement.

A/V Room Service Equipment Vibration Protectors (EVPs)

To put the price increase into some perspective, while there are certainly other vibration controls at this price point, I'll suggest that the better criterion would be price to performance. With that said, I had a MinusK platform beneath my techdas and greatly preferred the EVPs, ditto beneath...

    Clear Beyond Stealth Dream

I recently demo'd many interconnects (10!) from thecableco and found the stealth metacarbon and cardas clear beyond rose to the top. Really liked whatever it was the metacarbon was doing and just lucked out by finding someone local unloading a stealth sakra, and let me borrow before buying. It...

A/V Room Service Equipment Vibration Protectors (EVPs)

Well, I placed 4 EVPs beneath Verity Sorastros and can say unequivocally that the improvement was nothing short of dramatic. My goal was to simply eliminate a strong room resonance at around 70hz (suspended floor) after trying countless speaker positions and room absorber locations to no...

Are there more differences than similarities between CH Precision and other top Swiss brands?

I've got the pair of Nagra monoblocks up for sale. The DarTZeel CTH-8550 is a single box integrated amp - so you only need one. For clarity, I've the current Mk2 version, which I think has been out a year or less. Also, one of the main reasons I got the Nagras is because I learned that they...

Are there more differences than similarities between CH Precision and other top Swiss brands?

Well - I can now report back my listening findings between the Nagra Classic amp and Dartzeel. In short, I now own the Dartzeel CTH-8550 - never ever thought I'd pick up an integrated. Of course, all observations and words here are my observations and ymmv. Source = Lumin X1 and Roon and...

Are there more differences than similarities between CH Precision and other top Swiss brands?

Thanks for the input. Surprised to hear tipunch say DarTZeel would be on the hot side of neutral as my sense from the reviews was not that - I was under the impression that it was a bit tubey sans tubes. If it is hot, I likely won't be happy given the ribbon tweeters and just overall lack of...

Are there more differences than similarities between CH Precision and other top Swiss brands?

Well, after all that interest, I might be the first to weigh in on a comparison between the Nagra and DarTZeel as there's a CTH-8550 mk2 on its way....

Are there more differences than similarities between CH Precision and other top Swiss brands?

At the risk of opening this too broadly, add the FM (which was not on my radar at all ). hopefully someone with an true AB experience with Nagra and DarTZeel, and perhaps the others listed above, can weigh in here. I’ve got the opportunity to pick up the NHB108 amp, but have no clue on how...

Are there more differences than similarities between CH Precision and other top Swiss brands?

Hoping to breathe a little life back into this thread bcs wondering about the difference and similarities in sound presentation etc between the Nagra and DarTZeel. more specifically, Nagra classic series (amp (which I have) and pre) vs the DarTZeel NHB gear model one or two. Thx for the help!

Just acknowledging that your experience is spot on with mine. A huge unexpected upgrade adding the second Nagra. classic.

    Zanden vs. Nagra

A bit topic adjacent, but I'll try it out here as this seems to be the most current nagra amp discussion. Has anyone migrated from a single Nagra Classic to a pair? Was it worth it? I've got one, like it a lot, especially after it warms up - takes at least 30mins or so. I do understand that...

    Amp and Pre for Sorastro

The Wells Innamorata specs report an input voltage sensitivity of 0.85v, in the same range as the Lamm amps. So, perhaps it's not that?

    Amp and Pre for Sorastro

Thanks for the Gryphon suggestion. I've got a bead on a used pair of D'agostino Progression monoblocks. Thoughts on how those beasts might work with the Sarastros and my goals are most welcome.

    Amp and Pre for Sorastro

Very fair comment/critique - and I'll admit reaching a bit for straws. I'm searching for an amp that will add 3 dimensional staging without being forward, emotional presence without being cloaked in a warm blanket, tangible image without the artifice, dynamic without being harsh - all in...

    Amp and Pre for Sorastro

Thx - always good to get insight from someone who knows the gear well. I actually meant the M2.2 because of the power (it too is hybrid?) and runs a bit cooler than the M1.2, thinking that the 18w would not be nearly enough to effectively drive the 91db speaker load and control the 11" driver...

    Amp and Pre for Sorastro

First timer here, tho I've been into audio for a long time now. What a refreshing forum - way more informed than elsewhere. I'm considering evolving out of my Wells Audio pre - to - amp string for Verity Sorastro 2s (the search tool found zero entries with Sorastro). Looking for more stage and...
