Best DACs comparison test result [[My Subjective Opinion]]

Hello Esotar, I’m one of the few people who disliked the Terminator and thought it worse than T+A DAC8DSD but that could have been a mismatch with my SGM2015. I’d be interested in your thoughts/ranking of the Formula XHD Rev2 as I believe it’s a huge upgrade over standard XHD and would probably...

Aqua Formula - new upgrade, retrofittable!

Installed the new analogue board into the Formula yesterday and initial impressions are that it’s changed the character completely from Italian romance to German teutonicness. I’m hoping a few days/weeks burn in (not the 600hrs please) will bring back some sweetness though I could also play with...

I have mine approx35cm from the front wall, BUT, you really need 4m from the speaker for driver integration.

Yes you can get quite the bargain if you keep looking. In fact I was contemplating moving from G1 with Omega upgrade to G2 Omega purely for the better construction but was told the G1 Omega were better due to AG changing the driver spec. Now I’ll never change to Duo XD or Mezzo XD due to the...

Marc could keep the amps as doorstops I’ve heard the little MicroZotl M3 is also quite impressive on AG.

    Taiko Audio Daiza platforms.

As you say Bill, I think they allow you to play louder without distortion rather than requiring a louder setting. Very happy with two and fingers crossed for the other three by end of week. Cheers

    Taiko Audio Daiza platforms.

A weird thing I’ve noticed over a few days is the effectiveness of the Daiza is increased as the volume goes up or is it just my hearing. What I’m trying to say is traditional footers work but only to a point (no pun intended).

Spades next on my list of upgrades but only with their corresponding binding posts. May as well do the job well

Cheers Mark and thank you to your friends for introducing me to at least a couple of new artists. I hope I didn’t bore them with the jazz.

    Taiko Audio Daiza platforms.

A couple of days in and I could hear a slight recessed quality from upper mids on up so put my thinking cap on and removed the coconut wood shim that I needed to raise the Aqua off it’s feet. Old age strikes again and I’d forgotten I had the Aurios extra tungsten ball set somewhere in a box. So...

Aurios roller bearings under the Aqua and stock feet on the SGM. I’m sure there will be better coupling feet soon from Taiko. Here’s a pic.

Thomas Mayer/Elrog tubes - especially 211s and Molybdenum Plate 211s

Thanks for the clarification Thomas and I wasn’t slighting in any way your production though I see where it may have come across as such. I only ever had one EML tube go bad and within a few months it just died but it was an early version when they had a different shape bottle. I still have...

Thomas Mayer/Elrog tubes - especially 211s and Molybdenum Plate 211s

Don’t know, but Emission Labs give 5 yr warranty and other manufacturers should at least give 3 years if they stand by their product.

I can’t resist posting another pic as the Daiza look so cool against the white and they are sounding even better today. Emile did say 2-3 days to settle. Oh! And the RevOpods are up on the ‘Gon already. Got to find some way of buying another 3 to complete the set.

    Taiko Audio Daiza platforms.

Second Daiza installed under the SGM2015 today, using the stock feet, and immediately there is another uptick in sound quality. Timing appears to be faster with more bounce to bass notes as in Blue Rondo they just bounce along with such swing and precision. Music just sounds more fun. I’ve...

    Taiko Audio Daiza platforms.

Yes, anything that has some sort of absorbing material within the footer stops the vibrations from the source moving into the platform. It’s almost opposite to standard way of thinking, the vibrations within a component are more insidious than those external is how to imagine it. Hard coupling...

    Taiko Audio Daiza platforms.

Yesterday I had the RevOpods under the Aqua Formula and my initial thoughts were, ‘this isn’t right’. I was prepared to try them in their correct orientation today but thankfully Emile intervened, slapped my wrist, ‘naughty boy!, and told me to use something that couples the Aqua to the platform...

    Taiko Audio Daiza platforms.

Hi Bazelio, I’d previously tried the RevOpods under the Aqua and found in my system that orientation did change the sound. The upside down state gave a more linear response than ‘correct’ way which I found to be midrange focussed. So I’m trying upside down first on the Daiza. Taiko suggests to...

    Taiko Audio Daiza platforms.

Thanks to all the positive reviews here on WBF and my desire to elevate the sound quality of both the Aqua Formula XHD and the SGM2015 I purchased two of the standard sized Daiza platforms which arrived today. Packaging was superb and both units arrived in perfect condition. The photos show...

    SET amp owners thread

Hi Airy, I remember that amp from AA days and pleased to see you still have it. Did you ever try a DC coupled amp rather than IT coupled amps as I believe your other amps are also using IT? JM is still at it btw All the best Blue58 (smart845 on AA)

    Connector p*rn

I finally got around to installing the TomCat RCA sockets and in my case it proved a little harder to undertake being a walnut chassis with the sockets on a metal supporting plate. The extra hard work was well worth it and in fact the sound quality improvement was much greater than I...

Why Aren’t All Simple Solo Vocals Recorded in Mono?

I stand corrected, thank you Kodomo.

Why Aren’t All Simple Solo Vocals Recorded in Mono?

Vocals are not recorded in mono and we do not hear a voice in mono. When someone sings we hear the voice and the room/place acoustics and this is what is recorded and to do that properly we need stereo. Don’t get confused with a one mic recording which is almost always a stereo mic. We also need...

    KeithR's "Dream Speaker" Search

I don’t think the Duo are a compromise as the Trio require a much larger room and so are not really an option for many. The Horns Symphony are 95dB and 35-20K and 8ohm so not really comparable to Duo, ie, wouldn’t work with a low powered SET. Acapella and Blumenhofer are if I remember much...

    KeithR's "Dream Speaker" Search

Great write up above Keith and it sure sounds like you had a fun time. AGs do react quite strongly to toe in imo and the centre focus or width can be tuned to ones ear. I particularly prefer a strong central image for my choice of music which is almost identical to yours. Now I’ve heard the...

Taiko Audio SGM Extreme : the Crème de la Crème

Hi Emile, For fibre cable itself is it better to choose a Class B grade with lower insertion loss and does the polishing, APC/UPC and jacket material PVC/LSZH matter if using the previously mentioned Startech products. Just thinking to implement a fibre optic link to replace my WiFi extender and...

Keith, you’re very welcome to pop over to Dalston, 20 mins from Central London, to listen to an old pair of Duos just in case the dealer demo is not what you expect. I like them, Marc likes them but others don’t, normally they’re listening to SS/cones. Cheers

    PCC88 tubes

7V is the heater voltage and has nothing to do with driving the tubes too hard. If your heater voltage is 6.3V you’ll be potentially reducing emission of the PCC88 as you’re 10% under spec. Now if your voltage is actually 7V then you’ve been running the 6N23P at 11% over spec potentially...
