Nice. Hadn't heard of that one before.

I found the same. It's a journey :) You are on a very similar path to me. I started out with a ScoutMaster/Dynavector and then slowly migrated/upgraded to a Prime Signature/Benz. I find AM invaluable now whenever I change anything with the setup.

If you adjust the azimuth to get a closer/better reading with AM does the sound improve?

I guess it would depend upon the preamp? If I had just one source, I'd probably skip the preamp.

It's going to be great for HT. Even better for stereo with a decent standalone DAC.

And there were a LOT of construction differences over the years from the manufacturers. Just look at the differences with the KT66 from the 1940's to 1970's. There's a reason why a 1954 Mullard 12AX7 will cost a lot more than a 1959 version.

Oh jeez - M6, another super-speaker from Magico

Are Magico that much worse at hyperbole than other manufacturers?

They will sound great. Especially early ones from the 40's ;) On amps I've tried, they have the typical Fivre house sound - which is very clear, revealing, neutral and dynamic/alive.

i don't think a single cart has ever measured that high with AM. As mentioned earlier, it's rare to see a cart measure over 30 with AM, even though Vienna has seen an AM measurement of over 31 with some of his carts. I'm quite confident my Benz is fine, especially as it came back from Soundsmith...

Your experiences are very similar to mine. Regarding the low channel separation number reported by AM, I could noticeably hear differences when the L and R had higher measured differences (i.e. 27 and 31), so my primary focus was achieving L and R measurements that were close together (i.e...

As with all measurements, all you can do is compare results from one measurement to another. With AM, and making slight adjustments, I've not only heard better performance, but I've also seen better measurements. The two have coincided for me. I think that's all I can ask for from a piece of...

I don't really give it too much thought as things improved after I slightly adjusted the zenith and then measured with AM (which showed improved measurements after the slight adjustment). All other measurements are very good and my Benz cart/sytlus is very difficult to adjust as it's tricky to...

I'm not sure. All I know is Marconi and GEC are the same company :) Also Osram and MWT. I have a slight preference for the earlier black base, smoked glass, but anything from GEC from the 1940's - 1960's is when GEC were considered to be in their prime. It's just usually "earlier is considered...

1958 smoked glass = desirable for sure. Not quite sure when they switched from black base to brown base, but it would have been early/mid 1950's. Great price as long as they are NOS/test well.

In my gear, and my friends vintage Mac gear, we find the Gold Lion's to be some of the best new prod tubes out there, but nothing compares to a NOS or lightly used original GEC tube :) Just does everything slightly better than the Gold Lion. We've found the same to be true with KT88, KT66 and...

The GEC KT66 black base, smoked glass are earlier tubes. They also have internal black plates. These are some of my favorite tubes. A few pages back I posted some of the earlier tubes, including the larger shaped wartime KT66 which are indeed military. You might not notice a sound difference...

How solid does the TRP feel when changing tubes? I remember when I first inserted tubes into the Atlantic it felt very "springy" as the tubes are being inserted into a PCB board. This would annoy me if I was tube rolling, but I lived with this in the first Atlantic, as the only tube you roll...

Which ultrasonic now that KLAudio is out?

It is plug and play. Purchase one of those Chinese USC + Cleanervinyl for around $650. I have the cleanervinyl max. Just sits on top of the USC. Cheap Chinese USC that I have: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078KR76ZC/ref=biss_dp_t_asn These are also meant to be good...

I have an earlier version of one of these combined with the Chinese USC from eBay and works great: https://www.cleanervinyl.com/easy6.html For a rinse/dry step I use a VPI HW-17. Simple, and I couldn't be happier with the results.
