Taiko Audio SGM Extreme : the Crème de la Crème

I would suggest your read Christiaan's entire PDF which addresses that question and clearly states they are trying to devise a BPS solution which fits in the current Extreme chassis.

But (1) isn't the answer to the question "will there be a 1 box solution with the current Extreme chassis." What I quoted above is also in the same PDF you are referencing.

Taiko Audio SGM Extreme : the Crème de la Crème

This what Emile wrote: The BPS for the Extreme is much larger, it will need a large amount of cells to be able to get a workable amount on playing time (charge once every 24 hours). We are working on 3 scenarios for this: 1) An internal BPS in the existing current chassis. 2) An internal BPS...

Taiko Audio SGM Extreme : the Crème de la Crème

It is really unusual for an IP address to change on a straight reboot when there have been no other changes to the network or computer. It happens but it is rare. When you reboot to reset the card, XDMS should already have the correct IP address of the network card. Of course, if the card is...

Lampizator announcement: launch of our all new TOTL HORIZON DAC

I have a quad of GEC KT88s and thought they would be my tube of choice. I didn’t really like them. Of course, trying them again would be a good idea if I wasn’t so lazy.

I guess my environment is favorable with the bracket removed. I have not had any disconnections even with the cover on.

Taiko Audio SGM Extreme : the Crème de la Crème

If that’s the case then there is something else wrong with your network card. I am assuming it didn’t work with the bracket either?

Taiko Audio SGM Extreme : the Crème de la Crème

I don’t know what your setup is but I am able to tape the DAC cable to the wall behind the Extrene so the card can’t move.

Why not just remove the bracket?
  13. dminches

Taiko Audio SGM Extreme : the Crème de la Crème

The problem is the card’s heat prematurely triggering protection. However, if you remove the bracket there is more airflow and the card doesn’t get as hot.

I guess people have a lot of free time on their hands to spend modifying the bracket. Right now, the best bracket is no bracket. My system has been up a running for days following the removal of the bracket. That’s my solution until Emile updates the firmware.

The Extreme "always" has a stream of data coming into it via the ethernet connection. Thus, whatever the switch does to reduce noise and other artifacts would help improve the sound of local files as well. I am sure Emile can do a much better job explaining it.

Taiko Audio SGM Extreme : the Crème de la Crème

It sounds like you prefer the sound of local files to streaming?

Lampizator announcement: launch of our all new TOTL HORIZON DAC

I did not like the sound with the Bendix 6384s. I found that it lost some energy and power. It was a bit softer than with the EL51s which are still my favorite.

I have never had MP3s. I am talking lossless.

Taiko Audio SGM Extreme : the Crème de la Crème

There is only one downside to the continually improving sound produced by the Extreme: poor recordings sound worse. I have deleted some files after realizing how bad the recording/mastering is.

Took off the bracket. Reinstalled. Booted up and the connection is back.

Taiko Audio SGM Extreme : the Crème de la Crème

@Taiko Audio So without the bracket my Extreme was up and running for 5-6 days without any issue. Today, after installing the card with the new bracket I lost a connection between 90 and 120 minutes. Bizarre.

You would have to look at your drive in explorer. I don’t think XDMS gives you that information. Roon probably does if you tap on the star.
  25. dminches

Taiko Audio SGM Extreme : the Crème de la Crème

So bizarre. I assume that Emile and team have an explanation for this. I assume we are all using the card with the switch so the basic conditions are the same. I also assume we all put the card in slot 2 where the old SPF card was.

Taiko Audio SGM Extreme : the Crème de la Crème

I assume you reconnected the power? I am asking only because when I first tried the card sans bracket I forgot to.
  27. dminches

Taiko Audio SGM Extreme : the Crème de la Crème

That is a bummer. Sounds like your card’s issues go beyond the bracket.

Taiko Audio SGM Extreme : the Crème de la Crème

Got the bracket. Installation took 5 minutes. The fit is very different. Connected and listening. Let’s see how things go (even before any firmware update).
