Nice you had a chance to compare both. My dealer has both, although he pointed me to the A5’s. Yes, he mentioned M2 were better, but to him, not so much as maybe what you heard. He is a dealer and has access to some crazy high end gear which allows him to hear across all sorts of gear, cables...
I have not heard really good ported subs. I did look at Funk subs (sealed?) before deciding to go with the Sub 2 which of course is fully sealed also has the ARC/PBK room correction I had a big bass boost in my room 35–40Hz and ARC completely smoothed that out. The Sub 2 due to its compact...
Answering your question re ACC amp and processor
I’m running a Bryston 6B SST, three channels, one for the center and other two for surrounds.
6B is rated over 500 watts so is move then enough power for the ACC.
HT runs 80-90% to the center. ACC is a very special center. Same voicing as my...
Re: amps
Look at the reviews on Magico and amp suggestions. They tend to use very good amps that drive down to 2ohm. A5’s will drop to that in the upper bass region.
I‘m running mine with Bryston 28B3 mono blocks. Never had any issues with mid bass.
Here’s another good review, amps they used...
Never heard of that CD. I ran Tidal Flac most songs had good low end. I guess I ran mine way beyond 400 hrs before running good hi quality songs, yes with strong bass.
Then ran Sheffield drum tracks. My wife really likes them, not, Lol. Played when she was out. Btw, best I’ve ever heard these...
I got my A5’s in September and ran them everyday but not really loud. For me at first the bass was just not there, or at least had not much extension and impact. Highs and mids sounded great.
It took to about end of December to break in the bass.
I waited 9 months to take delivery and then...
Add to your post A5’s have the new crossover. A5’s are rated to handle 1,000 watts. I’m running Bryston 28B3 and really great sound levels can be attained. They can drive 4ohm loads right up to 1,800 watts. No idea what they can deliver when they drop down to almost 2ohms. Guessing not much...
So Magico maybe coming up with A3 variant that is better priced?
A5’s are incredible. For me, I needed to rethink fully sealed speaker. The bass it provides is awesome. Follows every bass note. Before my old B&W’s just had somewhat bloated bass and never had the bass extension the A5’s have.
Having lots of time during the recent holidays to play everything from jazz, piano, trumpet, limited classical and great R&B. These speakers sing! Sometimes I sit off to the left of my speakers and still have incredible imagery.
Played some bass songs and I cannot believe how strong the bass...
I guess my signature doesn’t come up. Here you go,
Bryston SP3, BDP-2, BDA 3, 28B3, 6B SST, 4B SST, Paradigm Sub 2, B&W AM1x4, Magico A5, ACC, Sony A80J 77
All amps and sub (220v) running on 20amp circuits.
Any updates? My A5’s are far better than my 802N’s. Bass, tightness, imaging, vocals are just some aspects. Bass extension well below 802N.
I found 801N too over the top in smaller areas.
As mentioned, I listened to 800D3 and they didn’t have the same imaging as the A5’s.
I don’t use a sub in...
My A5’s are very close to be broken in. I played a few heavy bass tracks and they shake the house!
Imaging is incredible. Even when playing at low levels, the A5’s have lots of bass drive. Guessing it’s the Bryston 28B Cube that helps.
Another consideration is how long it’ll take to arrive because a lot of the technology and parts are backordered for a long time. For example it took 9 1/2 months to get my speakers and they’re out of California. I’m in Canada.
I’ve watched a few movies 5.1, DTS. I have the matching ACC centre. The sound stage is awesome. Going to voices from centre and then audio back to LR is completely seamless. It’s incredible how important the centre speaker is for movies. They play a large role.
Thanks for the warning.
I listen carefully to make sure the A5’s are not going into stress and watch my amps if they are clipping.
While waiting for A5 to arrive, I used my bedroom speakers, Paradigm 8000f, cheapest line rated to max 150 watts. Many times I played them loud and never hurt them...

re A5’s arrived Sept 15
It’s been a few weeks now with my A5’s. All this time I’ve been listening with the grills on. Which by the way are very high quality. Got them since I have pets and didn’t want them to damage any of the drivers.

Well, removing the grills, holy @#$& imaging is fantastic!
Bass has opened up and...
Cool! Did you consider 800D3’s? Guessing you have a big room for these? I may have missed your room size. My bother in-law has his 801N in a somewhat small room and they over power it. Bass is way over the top. We have exactly the same front end, all Bryston gear. I found my 802N had good...
I had 802N for many years. And my brother in-law has the 801N. Bass was very strong but not precise, just seemed fat. High end was way too forward and too etchy for me.
I compared 800D3 and A5 same day on the same front end and the A5 were much better on vocals and similar bass. 801N are...
The SP3 has two channel bypass. Making it one of the better pre amps out there when in 2 Channel Bypass mode and still is one of the best processor to date. For two channel mode, I run a BDP2 and BDA 3 DAC. Awesome sound. Using all balanced cables.
SP3 also has an upgrade path for hdmi updates.
Hopefully this helps.
I have the following Bryston front end,
- BOT- 1, cd transport dedicated to my BDP-2
- BDA-3 DAC
- BDP-2 Digital player/streamer
So I have access to both playing CD’s and Tidal hi-res streaming. I spent a lot of time loading my favourite CD’s onto a local USB drive.
To be...
I ordered in Feb. and still don’t have a delivery date. Since Stereophile rated them high and they won speaker and component of the year, Magico most likely is slammed with orders.
So still waiting.
