Daniele Cohen from Alsyvox visits Rhapsody.Audio

Do actual owners of these use tubes or SS amplification with these speakers?

Daniele Cohen from Alsyvox visits Rhapsody.Audio

And a couple more questions: can Alsyvox rock with the best of the speakers that excel at rock? How close do they get to the state of the art "rock speakers"? Do all models in the product line up sound identical, just scaled for different-sized rooms? Or do the larger, more expensive models...

Daniele Cohen from Alsyvox visits Rhapsody.Audio

What is the value add of having 2 external passive crossovers? How are these crossovers different than what is in the standard model? Why is there such a cost difference? What does one gain sonically with external passive crossovers? If one orders a standard model initially, is there...

Daniele Cohen from Alsyvox visits Rhapsody.Audio

Hi Bob, Thanks for sharing experiences of all of your cool toys. So just to clarify, how does the sound change as you move them from 2 feet from the wall to 4 feet from the wall to 10 feet from the wall?

VAC 452 iQ review in Stereophile

Sure, from that perspective, I’m sure weaver nailed the sonic signature. But , unfortunately, his piece only adds value for those already familiar with the amp- speaker combo. So I respectfully disagree with you on some points... Seems like you already own that gear, and I have no doubt...

Does Anyone Understand the ELAC speaker designs that make them sound so competitive to Wilsons and Magicos (and even better than these at shows)?

Anyone understand the design choices ELAC has made? And I never heard either magico or wilson sound as good as ELAC at shows, although I have no doubt magico and wilson would be better in a perfect room. Andrew Jones constantly gets applause at his show demos.

VAC 452 iQ review in Stereophile

Here's a review from TAS of a VAC amp: http://www.theabsolutesound.com/articles/valve-amplification-company-statement-450i-iq-integrated-amplifier/ Not really familiar with this reviewer, Weaver, but obviously TAS chose this lesser known guy to review the amp with Von Schweikert, instead of...

Tube DACs vs. Delta Sigma DACs vs Ladder DACs vs. Multibit DACs? Sonic Signatures readily evident for TOP Designs? Tubes give up Anything?

Ouch! Connecting the dots, are you trying to imply that when one hears a rich natural tone it's a euphonic coloration that tubes may impart?

    Are Transports Obsolete?

For those who have not yet learned to like that deficient and analytical sound of streaming, it's a great time to pick up some used reference level transports for 25 to 35 cents on the dollar thanks to the audiophile herd that think streaming is better. :):)

Tube DACs vs. Delta Sigma DACs vs Ladder DACs vs. Multibit DACs? Sonic Signatures readily evident for TOP Designs? Tubes give up Anything?

Can anyone readily identify which technology is used in top engineering implementations of the top DACs? My guess is that identifying a Tube DAC would be easiest. Is that a correct assumption? Do tube DACs sound softer, mushier, and less dynamic? (For full transparency, my personal...

    Magico M9

We don't always have to agree on the sound, but I do hope we can agree to respect each other as human beings

Sure, Peter. Rhetorical or not, I think it would be a wise decision to join.

    Magico M9

Interesting point, indeed. But I believe we all know so many musicians, band leaders, and music teachers, people who listen to real music all day, never agreeing on anything either. But those folks likely do have more confidence in their "imagination of real" than an audiophile on an internet...

    Magico M9

Hi Peter, Great points. I think you have a better relationship with them than I do. Maybe you can ask. :) Better yet, can Alon Wolf and/ or his designer (Meir Yamaim?) be invited to this forum to explain their design process? I have no doubt members here will treat them with respect. (And...

    Magico M9

Hi Microstrip, How many non-Wilson people became converts to Wilson after hearing the Wamm? How many people do you think Magico will convert? Aside for the clueless, silly-rich guy who will write a check based on exclusivity alone, chances are people have developed a particular taste, and this...

    Magico M9

Gentlemen, To most people a $200 soundbar upgrade for their TV is "high-end" audio. Aren't we talking about level of degree here? God bless Magico for pushing the boundaries! In a free society people can choose how to spend their money. And if these folks obtained their money legally, who...

    Magico M9

I have no doubt this new Magico will be have insane detail resolution. And paired with the right amps (NOT spectral! NOT CH circumcision!) will sound excellent with great audiophile recordings. But how many people enjoy audiophile recordings? More importantly, will it sound good with streamed...

    Magico M9

Maybe so. But they will not have the media acolytes calling their products BESTand using them as references as we do with Stereophile - Wilson and TAS - Magico. And although an excellent designer may create a well-engineered product, will it match the learned taste of Wison and Magico that...

Best Amp - Speaker Combination you've ever Heard.

I think at the highest levels different technologies present the music differently - so nothing completely dominates everything else completely at the top echelons For box speakers the best I've heard are Von Schweikert with VAC and Vivid with CAT. Zellaton is pretty awesome also Avantgarde...

VAC 452 iQ review in Stereophile

Hi Skanda, Yes, the folks who have heard Symphonic Line are a lucky bunch, as your description nails it right on the head. And it's hard to imagine a better amplifier on Magicos. As far as MBL 101s go, I think the 300 would be a an incredible starting point in a medium to small room. I...

VAC 452 iQ review in Stereophile

That would be cool, indeed. The reality, however, is that VAC is very expensive. There is not a large amount of owners, and many of the ones that exist don't necessarily hang out on audio forums. But, yeah, would love to hear that also

VAC 452 iQ review in Stereophile

Yes, that would be awesome. Another tube one that would be amazing to try would be some Atma-sphere OTLs

VAC 452 iQ review in Stereophile

I have had these speakers for years and never heard any metallical coloration. Don’t even know what it is. get great transparency to musical performance, electrostatic clarity in the midrange, but better on the extremes... near horn dynamics... just pure joy They do need a room with a lot of...

    Are Transports Obsolete?

I wish we can all sit and listen together with you, Mike, Al, Microstrip, Spirit and others to calibrate our tastes. But generally, I have found that streamers are more flat and robotic sounding. A lot of analytical detail thrown at the listener by a robot. With transports, on the other...

    Are Transports Obsolete?

Yes, I am passionate about this. Nothing personal intended. Having heard most of the top streamers from lumin, aurender, naim, etc., I think streaming is one of the biggest scams in high end audio today for getting the best sound. One may get at best 80%, but probably realistically get...

    Are Transports Obsolete?

I haven't read that thread yet. What is the time frame for support? When will the new model come out? Do they up-calculate everything to DSD like the SGM server? Is the current box upgradeable? Are complementary network elements necessary to bring out the most out of it? If so, which ones...

    Are Transports Obsolete?

I Think the old SGM server up-calculated everything to DSD (via HQ Player?). Someone would come by the house and set it up, and enter the HQ Player parameters for the DAC the guy was using, if I recall correctly. Because of DSD technology, it was a completely different sound. So definitely not...
