Taiko Audio SGM Extreme : the Crème de la Crème

wow...........TAS will have a command line interface? :)

Taiko Audio SGM Extreme : the Crème de la Crème

that would seem to be the crux of the issue and it is not clear to me that the inherent 'extreme' value proposition remains without the magic mojo of how the parts (h/w, s/w, power) are combined in a maximally synergistic manner...............got to start saving those pennies here

i understand completely..............maybe(?) time for plan B here (saving many pennies, how much can i get for the stuff that would be replaced, etc)

Taiko Audio SGM Extreme : the Crème de la Crème

yes.......and no compare at the click of a button, yes 50/50 distribution, no this cries out for understanding........... could it be sensitivity to the switch feeding the extreme, and buffering, flow control, etc could it be that different DACs prefer one or the other, with buffering, flow...

Stereo Imaging Recordings? What are you're References?

highly recommend Guantanamera even if you 'only' have a digital setup :) i haven't tried all the versions, but i find the original CD sounds better than the 24/96 version. when everything in my system is clicking, the sound is breathtaking on speakers or headphones. in addition to the singers...

Peter Green: troubled Fleetwood Mac founder leaves legacy of brilliance that shines still

well said. in my case, i've been listening to Fleetwood Mac since the early 1970s. i find the only Mac i can still listen to is the early stuff with him and Jeremy Spencer. that music, and its feeling in the notes (well described above), has aged well in my opinion, especially compared with the...

Taiko Audio SGM Extreme : the Crème de la Crème

i want to really commend emile for what he is doing here--designing units together to have synergy and to jointly/holistically improve sound quality. as he said, he is not trying to design a best switch for all situations, but a best switch for feeding an extreme. this is as much about synergy...

does jplay have any impact with aes/ebu ouput (preferred for totaldac)?

Taiko Audio SGM Extreme : the Crème de la Crème

my take on this is that taiko will be able to control the flow of data to/from the extreme. how often is data transferred, in what size packages/chunks, etc. if this is under the control of other devices, it can be accounted for to some extent, but if you control the transfer process for the...

Taiko Audio SGM Extreme : the Crème de la Crème

not a short term issue, but this is an apple-free environment here (android app follow-on?) and windows-free as well (though i'll make an exception for a mini--a single specific usage) :)

Network Improvements and their Impact on Sound Quality

follow up: went from 5v switch power supply/wallwart on oM to a 12v sps into a DXP-1A5DSC Dual Stage Regulation Power Supply (10v pre-reg, 8v out).......big additional improvement, especially noticeably on vocals with jump factor added as voice goes from silence to voiced sound..........even...

Network Improvements and their Impact on Sound Quality

the trick for me was setting up wizard as a switch, not as a router. i had the same problem when i was running it as a router even w/dhcp turned off. not sure what causes the problem but if you can get dhcp elsewhere, you could run it as a switch.

Network Improvements and their Impact on Sound Quality

that was it, i needed the new software. (insert drumroll) previously, there was a significant bump in SQ by adding the edgerouterX to segregate the music links (hqp/audiolinux/nuc/server, etherRegen) from the 30-40 other ethernet connections in the house. however, a connection to the home...

@joaovieira @ray-dude I disabled dhcp but don't remember a specific switch setup procedure, so that could be it. what else is required to setup as a switch? my firmware is EdgeRouter X SFP v1.9.7+hotfix.3 on their download page, i see two downloads available but don't understand if...

Taiko Audio SGM Extreme : the Crème de la Crème

Steve, thanks for your feedback on the pre-beta. i think what might be confusing folks (or at least me) is that i can't determine if you are saying that the sound is back to where it was back when it was magical sounding or if the sound now is even better than it ever was with roon.

Network Improvements and their Impact on Sound Quality

i'd like to take a step back and see if any of the ubiquity X experts are still around. i have a ubiquity X sfp edge router that i've inserted to isolate my music related connections from the rest of the house. one cat6 cable goes from the edge router to either the fios router (which provides...

Taiko Audio SGM Extreme : the Crème de la Crème

nor was I. i was suggesting that a server/NAA, both inside the extreme and properly isolated via the magic tweaking stuff emile has mastered, might be an interesting and good sounding option. and definitely not a diy project. absolutely. as for me, i'm hoping that 1) the new mojo going...

Taiko Audio SGM Extreme : the Crème de la Crème

@nenon this is completely in agreement with what i have been reporting for a few years now. HQPlayer with no upsampling or dither can sound fantastic. i have a totaldac d1-direct and have not found any hqp signal processing that sounds better than bit exact, the benefit being (apparently)...

Taiko Audio SGM Extreme : the Crème de la Crème

another data point, not Extreme related, but supportive: i use hqplayer embedded, running under audiolinux on a NUC and an opticalRendu as NAA. hqplayer is set to do no signal processing/dither/upsampling/filtering at all and the purpose is simply to put less processing burden on the NAA which...

can you clarify how this attached figure shows switch mode vs. router mode? i see your ports are listed as 'switch' while mine are listed as 'ethernet' where/how did you change ports from 'ethernet' to 'switch'? i see a 'switch' wizard setup page but i'm not clear what that page should be set up as

you do realize that if you keep on this path, you'll have the musicians in your room with you and you'll be in violation of social distancing rules, particularly with big band and orchestral music

I jumped straight from my baseline, case 0 to case 2. There is no oM in case 2. In the figures, yellow indicates optical connections, otherwise copper. Also, there is no Extreme :( My etherRegen feeds an opticalRendu running Jussi's NAA image, then on to my TotalDAC D1-direct. etherRegen is...

Network Improvements and their Impact on Sound Quality

Jumped straight to case 2 and the sound is much improved, more delicate with detail, longer tails to notes (e.g. Bonnie Raitt's Angel from Montgomery, listen to vocal tails at end of each line, woman............mother............lightning..........., also how clearly all 3 guitars are...

I'm heading into test mode here and have just setup my edgerouterX (laptop in airplane mode to shut of wifi, set wired usb adapter connection to static ip address, set edgerouter's default 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.21, take to basement and confirm ip address is seen).
