Luxman's new D-10X flagship sacd player

From what I've read elsewhere, it sounds like the reviewer was judging a unit that had not yet been sufficiently broken in. I ran the review comments by a D-10X owner whose ears I trust, and his impression was the same.

    Marantz or Esoteric SACD?

I own an Esoteric K-03X and am currently deliberating between the new Luxman D-10X and a new Esoteric XD model (K-03XD or K-01XD, reportedly a much improved sound over previous models due to new in-house developed discrete component DAC). Last year I had a loner Luxman D-08u (being replaced by...

    Gryphon Essence

Hello taww, As a current Diablo 300 owner, your Essence commentary is very interesting. Question: Are your impressions of the Essence sound gleaned from experience with the Essence amp + Essence pre or some other combination? I ask because I read somewhere where the poster felt as you did that...

    Gryphon Diablo Integrated Amplifier Owners

I have a 300, which I like very much. I decided not to buy the optional DAC (which is reportedly very good). My reasoning was that DAC technology is moving much faster than amplifier technology, so separating the two would likely provide more flexibility with future upgrades. This plus my...

If the Esoteric K03Xs CD/SACD Player has harsh leading and trailing edges...

According to the Esoteric website, there have been firmware updates to the D1X and K1X in April and to the K-01XD and K-03XD in June. These added MQA support and several misc improvements.

If the Esoteric K03Xs CD/SACD Player has harsh leading and trailing edges...

Not the same thing, but I think there was a Japanese YouTube shootout on the net (linked on one of the forums in 2019) between a K1 and the then brand new K1X. They played back-to-back musical excerpts from a number of different musical genres. Regarding buying a used mechanical player, to me...

If the Esoteric K03Xs CD/SACD Player has harsh leading and trailing edges...

I am one of those owners. I bought the Esoteric a few years ago and have enjoyed it, but now I know that 'better' is available. If the XD models are as good as reported, I'm open to staying with the brand. But first I'd like to hear one - and the Luxman. Severing their dependency on vendor...

If the Esoteric K03Xs CD/SACD Player has harsh leading and trailing edges...

Their SACD/CD Players with Master Sound Discrete DAC technology are the Grandioso K1X and Esoteric K-01XD, K-03XD. The K1 is the best of all their prior generation players that used AKM chip DACs.

If the Esoteric K03Xs CD/SACD Player has harsh leading and trailing edges...

As a K-03X owner I can identify with what I'd call a treble glare problem on some recordings. After home demoing Luxman's D-08u last year, the new D-10X is of great interest; however, from all accounts the new Esoteric XD models, with their in-house developed discrete component DAC technology...

    KeithR's "Dream Speaker" Search

Keith, as a Diablo 300 owner this was my initial reaction too. But Gryphon apparently believes Essence, a high current design with a ton of capacitance, will be a good upgrade path for many Diablo owners. Early users have remarked on its understated power. If you have any interest in Gryphon...

    Gryphon Mephisto Stereo

Since the Mephisto is 2.5X the Essence amp's price (at least in the US), this is not too surprising. [A comparison between the Diablo 300 and an Essence combo (2.5X the Diablo's US price) would also be interesting, probably to a wider audience.]

    Coda no 16 amplifier

I think he liked it. I read somewhere that Coda sells more product in Europe than in the US and that they're not much into marketing. Jeff Fritz of SoundStage Ultra reviewed the Coda 15.0 (two generations back from the 16.0) very favorably some years ago.

Gryphon Essence Stereo vs Antileon Evo Stereo vs CH Precision A1.5 to drive WA Sasha DAW

A review on another site opines that the Essence amp's sound most resembles the Mephisto, but paired with the Essence pre, it takes on a warmer character... so the pre choice is critical. As to what goes best with Magico, which Magico (A, M or S series)? And what are user preferences?

From what I read, the Antileon would also definitely be characterized as on the warm side of neutral.

Anyone with big, high current amplifier(s) find a power conditioner that doesn't destroy the amplifier's virtues? Is it even possible? Which Ones?

I also have a Niagara 5000 attached to a 20 amp dedicated line driving my little system, which includes a Gryphon Diablo 300. My belief is that the dynamics have been improved.

    Gryphon Essence

eagle3333, thank you. Outstanding review and right on the money for this Diablo 300 owner. Question: How does the Essence pre differ from the Diablo front end? Or is what you're describing really the whole amplification subsystem since your point of reference is the Diablo integrated?

    Are Transports Obsolete?

If you're interested in excellence for not a lot of money (CD only) check out the Simaudio 260D CD Transport with optional DAC.
