love my lights; never get tired of how they look. playing with all my tt's in the dim light in my room is fun.
my exact light, the i-tower by Koncept, has been discontinued. mine has the row of LED lights. i have 3 of the i-towers. but last fall i added a 4th turntable, needed a 4th light, so...
hi Gayle,
wow, welcome to the (general) neighborhood. and congrats on the new place and new Audio Room. enjoy the process. been to Bend a number of times, wonderful spot.
cheers,
Mike
to try and express what is distinctive about the way the CS Port projects energy, i'd say the essence is a matter of envelopment and delicacy. it projects the fine textures and shades of the sweep of the music. it's somewhat understated and elegant, assured, in control. it transforms somewhat...
headphones have a 'room' too, it's just a bit smaller. physical laws still apply. headphone designers have to jump through their own sets of space issues. they are not perfect. and the whole stereo perceptive thing is different.
and keep in mind that speakers designed for domestic rooms have...
been sitting here trying to rank these 4 turntables for my dream sound.
i think the way it lays out right now in my mind; each of these 4 does match what my dream sound is for the music i play on them. this morning i've played 3 complete (side A&B) symphonies on the CS Port. perfect. excites...
Rob,
i respect how you feel about this. i'm assuming you found this dormant thread (been 8 months since the last post) due to other discussions you might have read about the Etsuro Gold cartridge. here is a link to an active thread about actual Etsuro Gold owners and listeners and not focused...
i think if you read my dream sound details above, all my turntables fit into it just fine.
OTOH.....
always loved that line.
btw; my last drink last night was green tea. i love this stuff, typically have a dozen bottle at home and at work all the time...
thanks Peter.
as of this moment my answer will be incomplete because the NVS has the advantage in the bass of the Tana active shelf, but is waiting for the second Durand Tosca gimbal tonearm to arrive. this will allow me to swap cartridges and share the new LFD phono cable and even the EMIA...
as far as the exercise of getting your mind in the right spot to determine how close you are to, or if you have reached, your 'dream sound', to me this is not that hard. and as decades long intense music reproduction listeners, we are trained to pick up on musical nuance. we don't need musical...
i do not have a dedicated mono step up. i'm already using both my MM inputs on my CS Port phono for my 2 EMIA stereo SUT's for my 2 Etsuro Gold stereo cartridges.
my (2) EMIA 1:10 Stereo SUT's will each work well with either of my Infinity mono's should i want to do it that way. and the cables...
the equation for highest performance for 60's pressings is tricky. as mid-60's they were switching from wide-groove mono cutter heads to stereo cutter heads even for mono pressings. and i suspect that it is even changing somewhat more as mono cartridges improve and the performance delta...
it's all good. you are not trolling this thread. all mono discussion is positive, and letting mono dreamers know about other cartridge choices is only helpful. if you have not heard an Infinity, then.........you need to.....is all i would say. but maybe i need to hear the Tedeska too. :rolleyes...
some info and pictures about Mik's system. i know he owns multiple systems and speakers, as well as multiple amps, but he does have a main system too with a long term reference pair of heavily modified speakers and heavily modified amps (multiple modified amp choices)...
thank you.
btw; the designer/builder of my LFD cables, Dr. Richard Bews, is/was a disciple of Be Yamamura. and Dr. Bews and Mik (member CY108) are all in on the whole platinum this, and platinum that. Mik's system has amplifiers and speakers with many pounds of platinum wire. some of the LFD...
Peter referred me to this thread, his thought was apparently reading that i've said i'm at (or very nearly at) an end-game point in system building, and my recent posts about my pleasure at what i am hearing, did it then follow i've found my 'dream sound'? and did i ever have my own 'dream...
tonight getting very basic.
Saskia/Tosca/Etsuro Gold/LFD phono cable + MoFi Sinatra box = musical bliss.
i've sampled this box many times but it was never like this. absolutely stunning. otherworldly involving with perfect tone and presentation. some degree of overcooked bass and less than...
i own a phono cable specific break-in do-dad (which i might have lent out at some point.....have not looked for it), as well as an Audiodharma Cable Cooker which can be used for phono cable break-in.
https://www.thecablecooker.com/
but really; these cables, even though they are still breaking...
from new it does take considerable time for break-in. and neither of my LFD phono cables are yet fully run in.
Mik used this cable in his own system. don't know exactly for how many hours. it had to wake/warm up from the 8000 mile travel. the first couple of hours it seemed to open up and since...
hi Tom,
sure; the price is not a small thing. for me this is a 'cherry-on-top' sort of end game move. before i call it a wrap on my vinyl wanderings i wanted to explore where phono cables might take me.
check. done that.
in the context of dozens of $135k to $150k to $350k turntable's (just...
here is a description of this new LFD phono (DIN->RCA) cable. thank you Mik.
The LFD Kotonaru Shujin Arm cable
Uses a variety of conductors comprising of a custom made and pulled solid massive amorphous (made from copper and silver clad) core conductor, custom made pure silver ribbon...
thanks Ron.
honestly how Dr. Richard Bews builds these LFD cables is really beyond my ability to explain technically. he was a student of Dr. Hawksford, and Be Yamamura was a mentor to him.
these are not what we normally think of as commercial cable products. especially at the higher levels of...
i've visited this new LFD phono cable at least 2 or 3 sides daily this past week since it arrived. it continues to push into new frontiers of performance in my vinyl listening. it's uncovering musical information and increasing degrees of suspension of disbelief. on the subtle side it's added...
i'll take the vaccine.
but i manage a retail company with over 100 employees and over 100 customers a day. so while we are rigorous in our COVID processes, we will encourage all our employees to take the vaccine when the opportunity presents itself. we have not yet decided whether to require...
