    M12 Gold Switch

Thanks. I'll keep reading through that thread. I didn't yet see a direct comparison to the Mutec-clocked SOTM and EtherRegen, per se...it seems that the ones I read don't seem to mention an external clock...I feel that the external clock makes a significant difference with that "stack" which...

    M12 Gold Switch

Oh sorry, and a third question: For those with existing switches (like the SOTM, EtherRegen, etc.), were you able to find stacked configs with them and the M12 that improved things, or did you prefer the sound without those additional switches in the chain?

    M12 Gold Switch

Reviving this thread a bit. I listen to about 98% of my music streamed through Tidal/Qobuz using Roon. My current network is a SOTM switch feeding optically an EtherRegen, both clocked with a Mutec Ref 10 and powered via good linear power supplies. I'm using a mix of Sablon 2020, SOTM and...

Solid state amp to drive field coil woofers? Thoughts?

So i just tried to do a little more research...the power supply was built to go to 5A, but we don't think the speaker is drawing that much. My guess is it's closer to the 1.5A that yours does. I don't hear as much change in tone, per se, but the volume is a little louder, and it feels a little...

Solid state amp to drive field coil woofers? Thoughts?

how many powers supplies do you have, and are they all the same? I have one solid state for the woofers, and one tube hybrid for the full-range--they are customized for each driver type by Radu Tarta did you compare different power supplies. in an earlier pair of Rullits, there were hospital...

    Home made field coil speakers.

I should add: The Classic Audio Loudspeaker Hartsfields were the most emotionally engaging speaker I had ever personally heard. While very expensive in their own right, I have heard much more expensive speakers and systems and been always much less impressed. My aural memory of the half-day I...

    Home made field coil speakers.

We are in agreement. There are Alnico speakers that I am sure sound better than more poorly implemented field coils, for sure. I'm also a big Alnico fan! Love my 604Es! But I think somewhere someone has converted 604s to field-coil! I feel your pain on the full-range driver dilemmas and how...

Solid state amp to drive field coil woofers? Thoughts?

Ralph, thanks for the post. I actually own your M60 3.3s, but have been running them in another system. I will definitely pull them out and give them a try here on these woofers...Rich (who built these speakers) actually suggested the same thing to me this past weekend while I was out of town...

Solid state amp to drive field coil woofers? Thoughts?

No, I'm not, but super interested to read about them. Would love to hear what you think of them if you get a chance to hear them. That's considerably higher $ price point that I'm capable of!

    Home made field coil speakers.

My Druid 6s definitely enjoyed some distance from the walls in the 3 rooms I had them in as well. I ultimately had them 6.5' off the back wall and about 12' from either side wall in the end, and that's how they sounded the best. My first set of open baffles ended up in about the same spot, and...

    Home made field coil speakers.

I still love the Zu sound, btw, and I think they are moving toward a really great, even higher-end set of models to keep a bigger set of customers into high-efficiency options. It's exciting to see, and I'm a big fan of what they are doing for all ends of the cost spectrum. I most recently...

    Home made field coil speakers.

All-- Super cool thread. I have two stereo pairs and a mono (5 total speakers) based off of full-range field coils. All of my main drivers are Rullits (3 different levels), and on my primary pair of speakers I also have field coil woofers from Supravox. So I guess I have 7 field coil drivers...

Solid state amp to drive field coil woofers? Thoughts?

Thanks, sorry the photos weren't great--I had trouble uploading a couple others for some reason. Treehaus is a relatively new brand, yeah. I don't even think he has a site up yet...but I have contact info for him obviously if you were interested in contacting him. I met Rich (the...

Solid state amp to drive field coil woofers? Thoughts?

I worried about that with the open baffles as well, but they don't have any perceptible speed concerns at all...if anything, I would say that they sound even quicker than previous setups I've owned. I can't prove this, but I think the field coil setup, when properly done and powered...

    Antipodes CX+EX

I set up the CX as the core given it's a tiny bit beefier processor, and the EX as the Roon endpoint as I think it's perhaps designed to be lower-powered and a little quieter for that endpoint purpose, and I "think" that's how Antipodes recommends it. But of course you could do it the other way...

Solid state amp to drive field coil woofers? Thoughts?

That's a fair question, and I guess i would answer it as dynamic, tight, musical, and realistic tone vs. big bold to the side of over-emphasized. I know some people prefer a bigger, harder hitting bass to augment, but I'm more about tonal accuracy combined with the right speed and dynamics...

Rossini DAC/Clock config experience and preferences, please

Thanks! I actually have been playing it with the dither "on"...I think I prefer that. I was going to turn it off for a day and see which I prefer. I did end up preferring some different filters after the first few days. I am out of town this weekend but will post back next week.

State of the Art Solid State vs SOTA Tubes: Which is Moving Faster?

Sorry for the failed attempt at humor. I grew up in the era where these two gents were both onto their solo careers by the time I found their music. I'd actually never heard this album until today. As an aside, I realized that I was born two weeks before this album came out...is it possible...

Solid state amp to drive field coil woofers? Thoughts?

Team-- I had a custom pair of high efficiency field coil open baffle speakers built...full range with augmenting super tweeters and woofers. I'm using DSP to crossover the Supravox 400 EXC woofers at about 100 and its measuring well and sounding great. The woofers are absolutely improving the...

State of the Art Solid State vs SOTA Tubes: Which is Moving Faster?

At the suggestion I just worked my way through Nursery Cryme. There's clearly something wrong with my system because for some strange reason Phil Collins sounds exactly like Peter Gabriel to me. Maybe I need to try another cable swap...

Rossini DAC/Clock config experience and preferences, please

I always appreciate a "closing" response from an OP in forums like this to see what they later learned or thought. Accordingly, after a few weeks of owning this thing, I feel like I owe this to future prospective Rossini owners who might stumble onto this thread. Punchline: This DAC is...

Rossini DAC/Clock config experience and preferences, please

It sounds awesome. More nuance, more depth, more dynamics. Love it, thank you! Just literally dropped in my brand-new Alpha NR power cables to both devices 20 minutes ago as well now. I expect them to take a few days to break in (probably longer, I know) so hopefully with some days of run-in...

Rossini DAC/Clock config experience and preferences, please

Thanks so much for that. That actually makes me feel even more confident with my Rossini purchase--and I know they are ALL phenomenal and probably just slightly different flavors of phenomenal. I had to travel to Phoenix and California from Ohio to hear the Nagra stuff, and I never found a dCS...

Rossini DAC/Clock config experience and preferences, please

@ jfrech At the risk of taking my own thread off topic, I'm curious as to whether you got to hear the Nagra DACs in your system vs. the Vivaldis? I had a chance to hear the Nagra HD a couple years back when it came out, and I was kind of familiar with the associated equipment...the whole...

Rossini DAC/Clock config experience and preferences, please

Ahead of my Rossini is as follows: SOTM switch (clocked by Mutec) -> optical -> EtherRegen (clocked by Mutec) -> Antipodes CX -> ethernet -> Antipodes EX -> SOTM usb reclocker (clocked by Mutec) -> USB -> Rossini I've also got a SOTM ethernet cable from the Antipodes EX directly to the Rossini...

Rossini DAC/Clock config experience and preferences, please

Thank you so much for that...that's exactly the kind of stuff I was looking for. Interesting that you landed on Map3 and filter 5 as well. Yeah, the clock has 2 dithers...I will play with both and see if I prefer one, both or none. Thanks for that suggestion...I actually forgot to try those...

Rossini DAC/Clock config experience and preferences, please

I'm a new dCS Rossini DAC/Rossini Clock owner. I feel like I dropped them into a decent supporting system (both in front and behind them), and while I'm very pleased with how the Rossini duo already sounds in my system, I'm sure it can still sound better. I have already ordered some pretty...

    DCS Vivaldi

I read the manuals last night--you are right, of course on how the Rossini kit works. So I plan to keep the Mutec in the chain for the other devices, which I'm sure will still help. Then I can decide to either upgrade it to an SE, upgrade the dCS clock, etc., as I see fit.
