    Zero Distortion: Stacked Quad 57s

Very interesting thread and fantastic looking speakers. I’ve only heard Quad 57’s a couple of times and they weren’t stacked…. And they definitely didn’t have lovely EMIA touches. I bet these sound amazing!

5 way system, horns and more. From the beginning to now

What an amazing journey. Thank you for posting. I’d love to make a pair of horn speakers some day. Your project is an inspiration. I wish I could hear it!

The Devil is in the Detail

I’m a visually oriented person. I use an auditory to visual analogy of film vs video, and what that means to me as a listener. When I watch a movie that was shot in 70mm film I see a more liquid, continuous flow to the image…. film is more immersive to me. The details are present but not as...

The Devil is in the Detail

My threshold must be very, very low.…. After first hearing Robert Johnson nearly 40 years ago, the hair on my arms still stands on end when I listen to “Hellhound on my trail”. Missing musical detail to the point of not enjoying…. Dont know. I do know Mr. Johnson’s music - along with The...

    Past great comedy movies

This list must.... just MUST, include the original Pink Panther movies, with Peter Sellars. If you want to stick with Peter Sellars and go a bit darker, Dr. Strangelove.

    The Noob Linearity factor

I’m confused… Is this like the kid in middle school who gets turned on to Led Zeppelin, and then “discovers“ Aerosmith, then Metallica, then Red Hot Chili Peppers …….and as a 50 year old middle aged overweight dude living in his mom’s basement, just realized that Muddy Waters invented rock and...

"Long-Term Equipment Loans: A Win-Win for Everyone" by Robert Harley, The Absolute Sound

Spot on and very well said.…. Speaking for myself (and I wish to stress that notion), my interest in reading the HiFi mags was mostly waned because I’m bored (i.e., not entertained) by reading about the latest products from the same batch of manufacturers. Honestly, I’d rather hear about Ked’s...

"Long-Term Equipment Loans: A Win-Win for Everyone" by Robert Harley, The Absolute Sound

Lol, back in the days of my “professional musician-ism” (playing in bands for a living) our running joke to our audiences was “The more you drink, the better we sound“ ….. I cant Help you with the Diana Krall thing though!

    Todd's AG Trio G3 System -- it's about time

This thread is an excellent read! Thanks sbnx (Todd) for documenting your journey. The new Trio’s are definitely on my short list of next speakers…. your sharing your experience here is quite helpful (hurtful to my bank account) in furthering the dream

Audiophiles in Austin, TX, Please Check In!

How nice to stumble on this thread. I just returned to Austin, after living in Boston for the past year. I haven't really been involved in the audio community for a while. I do know that there are still some good like minded people in the area - into good music and cool gear. If someone is...

All Quiet On The Western Front 2022

Thanks for the mini review and recommendation, Steve. I’ve been hoping for something new and good to watch - I’m finding winters in Boston to be “movie time” ;-) I do need to add that I thought “Banshees” was brilliant…. Brilliant but hard to watch in some ways.

    Upcoming Nagra turntable

Not to hijack the thread here, but does anyone have any further information about the Nagra HD phono preamp? I noticed a “preview “ shot or tow of it in one of their news letters a long while back, and then nothing. Is it due out soon? And yes, the new Nagra TT looks beautiful to my eyes -...

Bob Dylan Says Streaming Has Made Music ‘Too Smooth and Painless’

Whoa.… and he won the Nobel Prize for literature when? I assume you don’t really know. Let me save you a google search. It was 2016. A whole seven years ago.….. and BTW, his latest album is pretty awesome.

Destination Audio's Malta (Listening Bar) Horn Loudspeaker System

Fantastic thread sir! My father owned a night club that featured about any genre of music you can image - Dac Watson to The Breeders. Los Lobos to Mary Chaplin Carpenter and Buddy Guy…. Billy Cobham, Larry Coryell, John Lee Hooker…. He got me into hi fi too. I’ve always dreamed of a place that...

A Tale or Three Phono Stages

perfectly said, Peter….. I love it. I’m hopeful that I can meet you in person sometime soon. My great migration to the north east is about to begin. I might need to bring a little TexMex, BBQ, and deep TX blues with me…. Throw in a y’all every now and then, and I think it’ll be okay.

A Tale or Three Phono Stages

I'm going to be moving from Austin to Boston later this summer. Is it possible to hear these and do comparisons? I'd also be interested in learning a bit more about features and specs - where do I find this? Price would be nice to know too.... just sayin'. My EMT only has four inputs... I may...

How do you know what you want from your audio system?

Yep, Doc Watson showing me a guitar part in my fathers living room, 1989.... Keith Richards through a '54 telecaster and a '59 Fender Twin... Charlie Watts on the drum riser behind him, Austin, TX 2006. Billie Holiday singing through a crappy PA and loosing her voice, Harlem 1953 - I can only...

Commonwealth idler drive - any experience?

Hi Hi Erik, Comparing the Commonwealth to my other tables…. It‘s insanely dynamic. It kinda out Garrards the Garrard. It really has a sense of momentum that I’ve not experienced from a turntable before. I feel like a faucet has been opened all the way and music is pouring out of my speakers...
