Indeed, but I find its most often a case of synergy. I like spus and a shure m35x/n35/s78 on my 301 and denon 103 (in the great lenco l70 tonearm) and the magical ortofon sl15ell on my big lenco. On the td124 I use a pimped 103.
I mainly have experience with garrards, lencos, and td124.
Of those id say that the garrard is the most powerful _and_ refined, the lenco has the best boogaloo and the td 124 has a nice
flow that particularly suits female voice but it is not as metronomic as the two others. The lenco is the...
Actually, I think advances in digital sound technology could come from hearing aid technology and voice recognition.
But theres a very long way to go, for best digital to get close to best analogue.
To my ears best digital is still 16bit cd AAD recordings into a tda 1541 based dac. Abbas for...
Lay people dont have their hearing distorted by what they think other audiophiles think, what it costs, engineering dogmatism, etc.
So it’s often worth listening to what they say.
Conclusion: the ladies have better ears than the audiophiles …
Previously Abbas has made some very impressive looking few watt single ended power amps based on unusual valves.
In recent years hes done headphone amps that can double as pre amps. Ive also seen pictures of a prototype hybrid amp...
Look what the cat brought in …
… two 1:25 step up trafos from Abbas himself.
Im gonna be using one for my ortofon sl15ell and one for spus.
Been listening for 30 mins but truly sounds like it is exactly what the doctor ordered.
@gerihifi :
One thing that you owe yourself, is to try your abbas dac with a good cd transport as source. Will take sound even more towards “authentic”.
Im sure the ladies will appreciate it.
Yes im using one.
I preferred it to an expensive cable that i had on loan. Cant remember the brand. Other than that i havent spent much time comparing.
.
His usb-spdif converter has a valve clock built in. Apparently, this one is based on ecc88+eb91, but he has previously used other tubes.
The listed separate tube clock is for other devices such as cd players or switches.
Abbas’ tda1541 based dacs 2.x and 3.x also have valve clocks for the dem...
Top tip:
Those who are in the know, know that the Lenco L70 is a cracking performer that punches way above its weight. The L70/denon 103 is a particular righteous combination. Cheap too. The L70 goes for around 250-300 usd around here.
One gentleman said to me: “im sure that theres a better...
This debate about the chord/dcs vs abbas skools of dacs, and details vs subtlety, reminds me about the following.
I use these hearing protection things when i go hunting. They have a microphone on the outside and a speaker on the inside. Transients and loud noises shut off the microphone. With...
No I havent heard dsd at his. Not sure he has any of that. Anyways, he is on an abbas 3.2se now.
I had an esoteric cd/sacd player in the house at some point. Wasnt overwhelmed. But not sure I
had the right software. It can be dsd alright, but if it has been thoroughly remastered and remixed...
I fully agree: it’s still a bargain.
And not just good for the money.
Im sure that it can compete with whatever.
I dont know of any other dac that id rather have.
Music for your abbas phono.
Following discussions with @Artnet about jan johansson, here’s some records by the swedish maestro:
To my ears he’s one of the greatest pianists ever. With a unique ultra minimalist swedish style. The best die young. Check it. Stay away from remasters.
There’s...
