An interesting read on why Hydrocarbon fuel isn't going away any time soon:

For the Hipster Millennial in your life:)
Dont' get me wrong - I admire Musk and his stance of growing our population in to space, vs the Malthusian alternative.
Bezo's Blue Origin is on the same track, and he is supporting Rivien with $500M investment and placed their largest order for EV Trucks to lower Amazons carbon footprint...
"A few will plug them into their power walls, which are charged from solar. Lots of roofs in CA have solar."
- Empirical
Mostly not true - Almost all homeowners with Solar panels are tied to the grid. They can't use their panels, even if they have a battery, during a grid shutdown...
Thanks NorthStar. Interesting read , especially about the Climate Change scientists trying to erase the data of the pre little Ice Age European warming period.
I saved the site.
I'm sure we will be hearing from the Climate Change Priests that that site is funded by big oil:)
Back to Steve Williams original "what the Government wants us to go do" topic-
IMO-
The real Government scam is there would be very little Solar in California without our extremely high power costs compared to other states. Our State Governments policies drive this (think Cap and Trade...
Steve N - it's the California rates and SoCal Inland temps.
SDGE Tier one rate between 2 pm and 9 pm is .55KWH. Inland SoCal Temps during summertime routinely hit high 90s to 115.
My inland 4500 s f house cost $1200 to $1500 mth in summer and $250 to $400 in other mnths thru SCE...
That makes sense if you continue to have that much excess capacity.
In 2016, panels were 265 w, and I have 27 which pretty much fill up my roof, so I would probably never buy a battery. But I'm happy with the 0 bill and relatively fast payoff.
Hi Steve
Yes - Dana Point ocean breezes help a lot. I also stop my pool pump at 1 or 2pm .
My Murrieta AirBnB is more like your Coto temperatures. My summer bills there were $1200 mth before Solar. And the SCE rates are lower than SDGE. So ironically, my payoff there is 6 yrs...
Interesting thread. I'm in SoCal not far from Steve W, and SDGE is quite high (.55 KWH at peak rates).
I'm lucky in that I'm by the coast and rarely use AC, but even then, with pool pumps, wife who never turns off lights and class A tube amps, my bill was over $400 a month and climbing every...
I too just upgraded my Trident 3/ Typhon and Alpha NR to a Typhon QR and Sigma NR PC.
Expensive but very noticeable upgrade.
Colin - I understand the increase in NIC capacity, but I'm curious how much a difference is also from the Typhon QR feeding the Trident, vs the original Typhon...
Hi Marslo -
Did you try the Crossfire Monoblocks as well? Curious if they would be worth the extra cost over the Stereo Crossfire III.
Also - when you tried the AudioPax at Geoffreys - what model were they - Maggiore 50s or the 88 MK3 monoblocks?
Morrie -
AG changed the G1 Duo line to Omega sometime around mid 2000 to late 2000s.
The Omega G1 Duo upgrade kit was $9kUSD and had new tweeter and mid range drivers plus new crossover. AG claims to have designed them so maybe they got them custom made from Beyma if that's what you see...
Hi Spirit -
yes - i can see that 70 watt NAT amps might be too noisy thru 107 DB speakers. That said, I tried the ARC GS150 8 KT150 tube with my Duo's and it was dead quiet, so one never knows. The Nagras have a 100 db S/N spec, so the hum could be due to they are out of spec. The Canadian...
No doubt I would appreciate Blue58s Duo Omega. I'm a fan of all the Duo Omega line especially when set up well with excellent electronics.
Funny you should mention Apogees. Apogee Full Ranges were my first high end speaker in the mid 80s. Required huge room and bi amped Krell KSA 250s. I...
If you buy G1 Trios or Duos, just make sure they have the Omega upgrade (new tweeter/mid range drivers , internal wiring and CPC crossovers). Omega upgrade was a significant improvement in speed and resolution over my original non Omega Duo.
Non Omega G1 Duos were quite available for 7 to...
The Nagra VPAs have better bass and extension compared to the AudioPax 88s but the 88s are quieter. The Audiopax M50s demos I had in 2015 with the Duo Mezzos were (to best of my recollection) equal if not slightly better than the Nagras and quieter. I just couldn't afford the $30k for new...
Folsom and Audiophile Bill - I'm sure you guys are correct about the horn loading below 70hz.
The width at the mouth of the horn where it turns flat is about 20". The inner width of the horn cabinet is 22".
So it's not a true Bass horn, in the sense of the giant monsters with a...
The Basshorns runs 23hz to 140 hz, so seems to me it does impact the Bass, but yes, it does integrate better in the 140hz mid bass range with the horn midrange horn than a conventional subwoofer in the box.
Regardless - Avantgarde calls them Basshorns, and the XD denotes built in DSP.
Bodhi - sorry for late reply.
I was not referring to a Duo with separate full size XD Basshorns ( the curved ones that stack on each other) or the short basshorns.
As you know, Duo Mezzo's have an integrated short basshorn in place of the standard 2x10 or 2x 12 subwoofer on the lower range...
Congrats on your AV speakers. 107 db will pick up noise from a lot of amps, so understand your issue with the V12R.
I used a V12i with my 103DB Duo G1, non Omega and didn't hear any noise, but my 107DB Duo Mezzo's definitely are more noise sensitive.
Anyone know sound differences between Silver Arrows II and Silver Arrows?
From MFTR web site, it looks like the first version is pure silver conductor vs II is Silver Hybrid OCC. They still make both, so doesn't appear the II replaced the first version.
I believe the brand and amp being referred to here is the Nagra VPA. In researching them before purchase last year I read about this. I also have to say I've had issues with Psvanne WE 845s starting to develop hum after 2 to 3 mths.
