Are You a Furry as Well as an Audiophile?

OK, I'll be the idiot here--what the hell is a 'furry'?

Anyone have Sound Lab electrostatic speakers? I Searched...

The Majestic 745s have been ordered for a couple months and MIGHT be here by the end of April.. I've been evaluating amps using my Vandersteen 7.2s: --Pass X260.8s--fabulous sound but too much heat, and these are the class-A/B versions! --Ayre MR-Xs--sublime-sounding on my 7.2s and...

Anyone have Sound Lab electrostatic speakers? I Searched...

I've heard a pair last week, and those characteristics were just fine for me.. That system was the best-sounding I've EVER heard, and I intend to buy a pair of Majestic 745s.

Are you an audiophile or a music lover?

WAY-too-many rules in your definitions. I LOVE music and attend maybe-thirty live musical events per year.. I also have an expensive, hi-end music-reproduction system; it's for playing music, NOT for dazzling fellow audiofools.

Anyone have Sound Lab electrostatic speakers? I Searched...

There's a dealer, Blue Skies Audio, in San Diego; I'll be driving over Saturday the 23rd to hear his.. The $35K Majestic 745s appear to be right for my room.. I'm REALLY looking forward to this.

Anyone have Sound Lab electrostatic speakers? I Searched...

...but couldn't find anything but a question on PCs for SLs. I've had electrostatic ('EL') speakers...Quad 57s, 57s paired, 2905s, AudioStatic somethings...and other open-baffle panel speakers over the decades, and I'm again fantasizing about buying speakers that create a larger soundstage for...

    Another best-ever listening experience

Happens every halfyear or so...when the moon, planets, and stars align, the electricity is purer, it's very quiet in the house, I'm ready to sit and do nothing but listen and love the music, etc.. The music this time was Gustav Hosts's The Planets, Suite for Large Orchestra, one of my...

    Atma-Sphere Class D Mono blocks

Hi Ralph! My pair of Simaudio/Moon 400Ms have been in the musicroom gathering dust, so after one of my first-line poweramps decided not to turn on, I reinstalled the Moon 400Ms and set a 100Hz hi-pass filter in the preamp*. The system, overall, still sounded excellent, and then (back into my...

    Speakers after Vandersteen 7

Just ran into this thread.. I bought, this summer, Ken/Alpinist's V'steen 7.2s and M7s; apparently he is moving west and will have less room, and I was willing to fly 2500 miles to Newark, rent an SUV, retrieve the 7.2s and 'M7s, and drive them home.. Richard V. told me that to his knowledge...

    GAIA feet for S5mkii? Diameter?

Bartolo, do be aware that the original thread in the top of the Gaia-I is M12-1.25, and that, of course, is the thread on the bottom half of all the stud-adapters. I'm currently adaping Gaia-Is to my Vandersteen Seven Mk.IIs which have 9/16-18 spikes, so I'm having to drill and tap that...

Vandersteen Seven Mk.IIs and M7-HPA monoamps

Have found and purchased pairs of these and will be retrieving them starting tomorrow nite. Unfortunately they're in NJ, 2500 miles away, but they'll be in my musicroom Sunday nite. Great prices and help from an apparently VERY nice fellow who is downsizing and moving to Colorado. Anyone...

Any experience with Vandersteen Kento Carbons? I'm considering going back...

And look what someone else found and pointed me to--used pairs of V'steen Seven Mk. 2s and M7-HPAs, both at attractive prices. I'll be wire-transferring the purchase price tomorrow. Unfortunately, they too are in NJ and must be retrieved, but I guess I'm ready for that...

Any experience with Vandersteen Kento Carbons? I'm considering going back...

Well, first, I didn't buy them, or more correctly, I bought them Friday and cancelled that order Sunday. They excelled at resolution, nasality (if that's such a word), and bass definition and extention--those double-9s go WAY down and sound excellent. But...but...but over the weekend I decided...

Any experience with Vandersteen Kento Carbons? I'm considering going back...

Ordered a pair from Stereo Unlimited (SU) in San Diego, CA, yesterday the 23rd. Finished in rosewood, they'll take a couple months to get here. SU will deliver them, get them running, and tune them to the room.

Any experience with Vandersteen Kento Carbons? I'm considering going back...

...to V'steen speakers.. This newish Kento, with all-three front-panel drivers being current, premium carbon designs, plus the two side-firing 9" powered woofers/subwoofers fascinates me. https://www.vandersteen.com/products/kento-carbon

State-of-the-Art Recordings of Classical Works (SACDs)

You are so correct; I haven't heard all of TELARC's multichannel recordings, but htis is a masterpiece of spaciousness, natural instrumental sounds, etc.. TY so much for recommending it.

State-of-the-Art Recordings of Classical Works (SACDs)

I agree heartily, having just received my used copy of this based on your observations.. TELARC's microfone distancing is a lit more distant than it is when they recorded the Cincinatti Pops/Kunsel, and it's about perfect! It sounds quite natural on my system which includes none of your equipment.

    Atma-Sphere Class D Mono blocks

The A-Ds are sounding quite excellent lately.. Compared them with my PS Audio M1200s* with my golden-eared buddy doing the listening; he opined that both were excellent, while the music thru the A-Ds had a little more depth.. (I was sitting well off-center so couldn't hear that.) I'm thrilled...

    HHR's Walsh-type-driver full-range speaker systems

Have received the pair of TLS-5s, in perfect condition.. I plan to use these as Surround speakers, but they're in front burning-in. The '5 is a 2-way system, but the bass driver operates as a Walsh-type driver and not simply as a woofer...not that I understand that. The jillion-jack pre/pro on...

TYVM; at 400 hours, I'll be finished burning in the Ds.. Have reinstalled the PS Audio M1200s to 'warm them up' a bit before comparing them with the Ds.
