    Thank you, that's very interesting.

    SET amp owners thread

Could you give me any thoughts on how the sound of the hybrids compares with a SET? How do you think the, probably unobtainable, Silbatone one compares with those from Silvercore?

    SET amp owners thread

If I've read right they can do them with various valves. Have you read any of the J C Morrison blogs that outlined the design of these hybrids?

    SET amp owners thread

Is this one of their hybrids or a 2A3 SET? Sorry posted before I saw the pictures above, clearly a SET. I would be interested in hearing one of their J C Morrison inspired hybrids.

    LampizatOr Golden Atlantic + TRP

Sounds like I need to arrange another demo of either the GG or Pacific though I'm not sure whether Greg has any available at the moment. Will find out shortly.

    LampizatOr Golden Atlantic + TRP

I'd be very interested to hear your thoughts on how the GG2 compares with the TRP? When I first bought my original Atlantic I was able to compare that with the GG at home and couldn't decide between them so decided to save my pennies and concentrate on optimising regulators instead. However as...

    LampizatOr Golden Atlantic + TRP

I wonder if anyone here has compared the different inputs on their TRP? Mine has one of the first JL Sounds USB cards in it and I have only ever used that input partly because my Fidelizer Nimitra only has USB output. Previously with my Atlantic (non TRP) fed by a Mac mini I used a USB to SPDIF...

    Abbas dac 2.1 se

I would be very interested to hear the views of the owner of the Lampi Big 7 and how it compares with the Abbas 3.2se. I have a Lampi Golden Atlantic TRP but am thinking about upgrading/changing it and the Abbas 3.2se sounds like it could be an affordable alternative to the models further up the...

    LampizatOr Golden Atlantic + TRP

Hi Phonatix, I'm sure you are right that the SR Purple is better than the Orange and that is likely where I will end up, however it will be interesting to try the Orange first and thanks to Highstream's generosity it won't be an expensive detour so all is good! David Whistance.

    LampizatOr Golden Atlantic + TRP

Many thanks, sadly I'm in the UK so postage, etc would be prohibitive, particularly at the moment with the pound doing so well against the dollar!

    LampizatOr Golden Atlantic + TRP

Brilliant, thank you. I now need to dig out all my other rectifiers to see which, if any, have good synergy with the Philips EL50's.

    LampizatOr Golden Atlantic + TRP

As a PS I am also thinking of replacing the fuse with an SR Orange, can anyone tell me which one to go for as I have read they don't meet their supposed specifications so a higher current one is recommended?

    LampizatOr Golden Atlantic + TRP

Probably a silly question, however can anyone tell me whether a GZ37 will work in the TRP? Having settled on the GEC KT66's with the Psvane ACME A274B several years ago I'm about to try some different output valves again - Philips EL50's in the first instance - so will be looking for a...

    Natural Sound

The mk4 is supposed to be very good as well though I haven't heard one. The mk2 is a good cartridge as well but not at the same level. This series of cartridges were developed during a time when phono replay was improving rapidly and big corporations, like Technics, were investing serious...

    Natural Sound

I loved the sound of my Technics EPC-205Mk3 though sadly the suspension is now starting to go, a relatively common problem with these cartridges. I'm hoping I can get it rebuilt but so far none of the usual suspects have been keen. I also agree with Shakti on the Shure V15's. I have a III which...

Are there any members who own or have listened to the Korf tonearm?

If I remember right the first of the Korf tonearms aren’t due to be delivered to customers until March 2022 so you might have a while to wait for an answer. Like you I will be interested to hear any comments once they are with customers. David Whistance

VIV Laboratory Rigid Float Tonearm, first experience.

Thank you both. I will keep investigating but I must say I’m tempted! I do need to try and listen to both aluminium and carbon versions in several lengths to try and understand the differences. David

Thank you. Which cartridges have you tried with it? David Whistance

VIV Laboratory Rigid Float Tonearm, first experience.

Can I ask if you are still just as happy with the arm two months on? I recently had the chance to hear the Cb7 and was very impressed. I would also be interested to hear from anyone who has compared the carbon and aluminium models in 7” and 9” versions. What are the differences in sound...

    Modern speakers vs Vintage speakers

So far I’ve never heard a 211 amp at home though they are very much on my radar and I have enjoyed the ones I’ve heard at shows etc. I’d love to hear some with my Ocellias, sadly a 211 amp with minimal compromises is quite an expensive undertaking! Hopefully I’ll get a chance to try some here soon.

    Modern speakers vs Vintage speakers

I generally use an SJS Arcadia PSE 2A3 amp but am borrowing a similar PSE 300b amp at the moment. Although I prefer my amp, probably due to it now being only 2 stages rather than the original 3 and using higher spec components, I do like the extra power of the 300b amp. I therefore need to...

    Modern speakers vs Vintage speakers

The PHY-HP speakers you show in the video are the smaller version of my Ocellia's, mine have the larger 30cm drivers and twin "tweeters". Quite a clever design. David

    Modern speakers vs Vintage speakers

As a quick follow up from my earlier post I very much liked the TP1. Although I am sure there are better horns for Lowthers if you get a chance to hear a TP1 do so as it is very good.

    Modern speakers vs Vintage speakers

Thomas, I really think you need to hear some Lowthers in a good horn, even better a compound horn (front/rear loading). Although there is a company in the US that suggests that they are best in large bass reflex enclosures if you look at the T&S parameters of any of them you will see that they...

    Modern speakers vs Vintage speakers

I’d be interested to know which cabinets and which Lowther drivers you used? The limitations you noted were probably due to the cabinets and maybe to a mismatched driver. Having followed lots of Lowther builds on forums over the years one of the things that generally strikes me is that there is...

    Modern speakers vs Vintage speakers

If you are going to try “single drivers” I’d be inclined to go for the Arcadian Audio Pnoe rather than the Ampeggio. Or if you just want to try them buy some Lowthers (on which both the AER and Voxativ drivers were based) and build some back loaded horn cabinets.

    Modern speakers vs Vintage speakers

All the drivers are available from Great Plains Audio as are crossovers though there are better ones available from elsewhere - try Pete Wriggle at vtaf.com. That just leaves cabinets which are easily made from plans on the Lansing Heritage site and the treble horn which is generally available...

    Possible physical deterioration of stylii

From my experience with MM cartridges with replaceable styli any problems are with the cantilever suspension/damping which can deteriorate over extended periods. It does seem to be somewhat random though as I have installed 40 year old stylus assemblies which have played perfectly and 10 year...

    Modern speakers vs Vintage speakers

No, certainly not without a crossover. I’ll try to dig out the details as I can’t remember them now - at the time I was lucky enough to have a big room and his setup was optimised for his much smaller space so I went with something else. Looking back I was both naive and stupid and fixated on...

    Modern speakers vs Vintage speakers

Jean Michel LeCleach used to use the TAD2001 from very low, 200-250Hz from memory. I had some email correspondence in the early 2000's with him about it, he felt it was the best driver for this particular implementation, much better than the bigger TAD's or the later 2002. Sadly I can't seem to...
