    Lenbrook Acquires MQA!

I'm not evening going to remotely try and explain - but I think I remember him talking to Passion for Sound (via You Tube) and discussing the affect on small signal accuracy. Improving small signal accuracy down to that level lead to change in perception of depth within the recording...

    Lenbrook Acquires MQA!

I think you are are severely underestimating the costs/complexitites of running such a business and the investment required. But hey, I have no objections as long as it promotes consumer choice. Lenbrook produce an MQA streaming service, other services can offer non MQA products, including hires...

    Lenbrook Acquires MQA!

Exactly, which is why they they pick up a huge volume of users for 'free' which then don't bother with alternative platforms that they would have to pay for.

    Lenbrook Acquires MQA!

O Ok we'll see, I remain unconvinced this is viable, a streaming radio service is a completely different proposition than a streaming music service, especially from a licensing perspective, scaling costs and software.

    Lenbrook Acquires MQA!

So now they have to license content from music labels, scale up a cloud infrastructure to stream all of this content for the small number of MQA fans - and they are going to price it cheaper than Spotify, Tidal and Qobuz, Deezer - who are not exactly the model of profitable businesses. All this...

    Lenbrook Acquires MQA!

Black Classical Music - Yussef Dayes released 8th Sept 2023 - shows only one version in Tidal for me - FLAC 48khz, 24bit MQA 48khz.

    Lenbrook Acquires MQA!

This was well documented over on the audiophilestyle forums by many of the contributors, where the original flac was replaced by an MQA version, the original was then no longer available to select. I had plenty of music in my collection where MQA was my only option, there were not multiple...

    Lenbrook Acquires MQA!

When I said 'converted' I should have said 'replaced', I know Tidal are not converting tracks. Regarding Tidal - you've missed, as well as made my point, the music distributors control what the consumer will be forced to swallow. If the music distributors choose to only allow MQA then the...

    Lenbrook Acquires MQA!

I'd agree with the sentiment, let the customer choose. Give the choice of streaming the track in MQA or streaming the pure flac/wav/no mqa version. But the consumer was never given the choice on Tidal - all tracks were slowly converted to MQA because the marketing was all about convincing people...

The Digital Director - A new MSB product improving everything from the source to the output

Interesting - that may account for people who sell their m-scaler after buying an LPS for their Dave (i.e. DC4/ARC6) - reduced RF noise and then no longer detect any difference with the m-scaler. I did hear a difference on a speaker system with the m-scaler (stage widened - more open, at least...

    Holo Audio May KTE Dac

It does seem to be a common criticism or I should say experience - increasing transparency and detail can sometimes lead to reduced body - sounding 'thin'. Clearly there are different approaches to digital to analogue conversion with no free lunches, each may have their benefits and compromises...

    Holo Audio May KTE Dac

Have I disagreed with Phil anywhere within my question? I said 'presumably' because when people don't mention that they are using an external upsampling approach I'm guessing they are using the dac natively - which is fine - I'm just seeking clarification. I do think one of the reasons people...

    Holo Audio May KTE Dac

Presumably the comparisons with the Holo May KTE are being done without any form of external upsampling (HQPlayer or pggb) - both to upsampled PCM or DSD (e.g. 256)? Just wanted to clarify how all of these models are being compared. There's quite a lot of praise regarding the May - but quite a...

The Gold - BBC iPlayer is definitely worth a watch about the aftermath of the Brinks Matt robbery. Ok a little on the nose weaving the social class commentary into the narrative/characters but definitely binge worthy.

    new Nagra Tube DAC

A valid point, it's not clear that he has taken the upgrade, I would have thought he would have clarified that point if he had upgraded. I did check if they had reviewed the V2, which they have but the review was not by Tom Lyle, so may be he is still running with the DA2.

The Bureau is really good - a cross between Homeland and Spooks but far better written. I'm currently starting season 3 and really enjoying it. I have to say Clarkson's Farm is also enjoyable - and this from a non petrol head that's pretty much ignored all things Clarkson over many decades.

    new Nagra Tube DAC

Very good review of the Nagra Tube DAC (with classic PSU) over at Enjoy the Music. Compared favourably to an EMM DA2, Tom Lyle seemed to prefer the Nagra. http://www.enjoythemusic.com/superioraudio/equipment/0121/Nagra_Tube_DAC_Classic_PSU_Power_Supply_Review.htm

Hi Yakamozan - I am monitoring this thread but for some reason wasn't notified of updates via email, @spiritofmusic dropped me a message pointing me to your post. Your observations of the Nenuphar match my demo. AV Show Reports (youtube) also reviewed the Nenuphar and after my demo if I read...

Just finished The Serpent (BBC) - an interesting drama based on historical events, well worth a watch. For me, the surprise hit of the last couple of months was the Queen's Gambit (Netflix) - very original. I need to start Lupin and the second season of Succession (I think I pretty much know...

    Will's Horn Finalists

I demoed the WFL SON alongside the Nenuphar with a dealer - accompanying electronics were AC Genus, Helene DAC and Pink Faun streamer. I don't think the Nenuphars were setup right that day - maybe it was positioning. The single driver as a point source was too noticeable and when I played Led...

    Holo Audio May KTE Dac

I can only describe changing a PS Audio dac to using a Tambaqui when I was listening to some Wolf Von Langa SON speakers. The front end was a Pink Faun 2.16x server/streamer connected via USB. When the Tambaqui replaced the PS Audio a number of elements were immediately noticeable. Bass depth...

    Holo Audio May KTE Dac

I think reviewers that discuss comparisons between DACs are personally more interesting - Herb Reichert does this well for Stereophile. I appreciate conducting that kind of comparative review is difficult unless you have both dacs to hand - you can't rely on your memory of a component...

I didn't really have a great demo experience with Nenuphar - I heard elements of what I've seen discussed online, but there were issues on the day which were too distracting. The drivers being a point source seemed to draw attention to themselves too much which lead me to believe the setup...
