I use the Playback Designs Pinot ADC. It does PCM up to 384k and DSD to 11.2MHz.
Comes with Sonoma software for recording the files. Paired with the Merlot DAC if you can find one, makes an incredible two track recorder.
aLLeARS here, your welcome. LOL!
Thanks for your review of NSM. I believe you described what we are all looking for more of from digital.
Posts like that make me really look forward to using NSM.
Happy to be on the Taiko train!
I've had the router and DCD running for about a week now with the switch and Extreme. It took around five minutes to get the router up and running with my system. Just used the recommended hookup and power cycling, set my i-pad controller to TAIKO WI-FI and Roon showed up as usual.
Not a single...
Just set up the Taiko router for the first time. I used the following method and Roon is working without a hitch.
Powered down the Extreme.
Plugged in CAT cable to router WAN port.
Plugged in DAC cable from router to switch.
Plugged in DAC cable from switch to extreme.
Powered on router and...
Wow! That was quick. The update process took around five minutes.
Special thanks going out to Khyle for providing the update so quickly after my request!
I'm on Roon only at this time.
This is not subtle. The update provides better, deeper/wider imaging front to back and side to side as well as...
@Xymox
I'm using my ATVX with an LG OLED TV. Are there any updated settings that you would recommend for LG users that are different from the standard setting recommendations?
Interesting. Thanks for taking the time to do this and post your results.
I was involved in the very first DSD recording circa 1997 and have engineered several DSD releases since.
I've always preferred the sound of DSD over PCM.
What type of dither did you use for your test?
They all sound...
@Kris,
Have you tried isolating your wi-fi AP from your router with fiber optic?
I did this using format converters on my previous set up and it made a big difference over copper.
Thanks for posting this about the network setup and i-pad latency. My i-pad is several years old now. I will look at the specs to see if it's time to upgrade.
My network setup is exactly as you have described in the schematic. With the exception of an Edgerouter-X in place of the Taiko router...
After almost 24 hours of having the NIC powered and running, I’m noticing more of what it’s doing.
The bass. It’s as if there is an additional octave below what was there before adding the NIC. Not more bass where the speakers must be moved further from the wall or the subs need to be retuned...
The new NIC arrived last evening. I just hooked it up an hour ago.
Holy cow!
Here it does as much if not more than the switch/DAC cable combo did.
Increased low level detail and improved transient response lead to a big increase in imaging. Front to back depth as well as imaging height and width...
I'm using Kensington GR's for my TV/video system as well. The 10" D.C. driver portrays the human voice VERY accurately.
As well as sounding excellent for music playback. Making them a good choice for A/V use.
Dual Concentric point source drivers are excellent in the time domain making...
I've also noticed that the switch SQ kept improving over about a two-week period until finally reaching its peak. Even without the new NIC card, the switch and DAC cable make a nice improvement in SQ. Overall things sound more analog like. The sound is fuller and has more life to it, leading and...
Here's one that looks like it could fit the requirements.
Atma-Sphere class-D.
They are mono-blocks, have both balanced and unbalanced inputs and list for under $6k.
They are only 100 Watts into 8 Ohms. But if you listen at moderate volumes that could work with your speakers.
I replaced my fully...
Once the Taiko OS update became available a year ago, I got rid of the switches and fiber in my IT chain with a great improvement in SQ. I’ve since spent the past few months re-optimizing my IT network in preparation for the new network card, switch and router to get my Extreme to sound as good...
It’s always sad to hear when someone of his stature passes. The cool thing about well-known artists, musicians and actors is that they leave behind a legacy of recordings. So in essence they never “really” die. Their body of work lives on forever. I’m listening to Odyssey of Iska right now...
The Audio Engineering Society (AES) was founded in the US in 1948.
The AES standard for XLR pinout is:
Pin 1 - Ground
Pin 2 - Hot
Pin 3 - Cold
That is how virtually all microphones and professional gear is wired.
Whoever wrote that manual at Marantz must have been smoking something funny.
You are right. Ralph’s new class-D amp sounds like his OTL tube designs only better. I became a fan of Ralph’s OTL designs because they are so incredibly transparent sounding. They only have one hi-quality blocking cap in the signal path. They don’t have the limits of an output transformer...
When doing auditions comparing any class-D amplifier to a tube amplifier, keep in mind that class-D amplifiers have a very low output impedance. In this case around 0.01 Ohms.
Your tube amp has a much higher output impedance which will put out more power at the frequency where your woofer has...
There are other advantages to using Ralph’s class-D amps besides the sound quality being superior to many tube amps. I was a tube amplifier only person ever since the SET revolution in the mid 90’s. That is until this class-D amp arrived. Now I actually listen to and enjoy more music than I did...
Thank you guys for posting both the picture and the name of the chair. That Eames chair looks nice!
The headrest is not too high and the chair is available in acoustically friendly Mohair too. There's a local show room where I can try both the standard and tall size for fit.
Just noticed Herman...
@wil - I had the same issue as you. My controller (Ipad) updated to 2.0 but my core was still on 1.8. Controller could no longer connect with core.
The fix was to go to the App store with my controller and download the legacy 1.8 version. Your tablet needs to be on the same version as your core...
As someone who has been using Ralph's new class-D mono-blocks with 99dB efficient horn speakers for over a year now, I can attest to his description of the sound of this amp compared to his OTL class-A tube designs. I went from fully optimized M60 OTL's with select tubes to his new class-D and...
