Zero Distortion: Altec Assault and the Magic of Misho (Audio Antiquary)

Was there a substantial improvement in sound quality after the refurbishment? Can you share the name of the person that did the work, assuming he/she offers this service to the public?

Zero Distortion: Altec Assault and the Magic of Misho (Audio Antiquary)

Did you have someone refurbish your MC30's with the Shirokazu Yazaki mods, or did you buy them with the mods already performed?

    Modern speakers vs Vintage speakers

So back in June 2023, you were having second thoughts on using super tweeters. Where did you end up? Are you still using them... and if so, still firing up, to the rear or forward? I'm considering trying them on my Model 19's.

    Mesa Boogie EL34 Siemens NOS?

All I can tell you is that I have a quad and they sound quite good and were very dependable over the time that I used them, more so than a quad of NOS RFT's that I bought from a well known dealer. I've not compared them to NOS Mullard's, nor Psvane's.

    Modern speakers vs Vintage speakers

Wow... impressive speakers and XO's! My findings regarding Duelund speaker cables align with yours. Once you get past 150-200 hours they sound wonderful. Great bang for the buck when it comes to cables.

That's encouraging. I'm glad I chose this option on Pete's crossovers.

    Modern speakers vs Vintage speakers

So do you prefer the sound with the super tweeter circuit engaged? It sounds nice to me, but obviously listening via earbuds on a YouTube recording is not the same as being in the room.

    Modern speakers vs Vintage speakers

It's difficult for me to visualize... but my crossovers won't arrive until mid February.

    Modern speakers vs Vintage speakers

Good to hear you're getting favorable results implementing super tweeters with Pete's XO's. I'd like to see pictures showing the positioning & mounting of the super tweeter (pointing to the ceiling still I presume), as I intend to implement them as well when my XO's arrive in February. Also...

    Modern speakers vs Vintage speakers

The horn array option sounds intriguing. I'll be curious as to your findings with just the tweeter facing to the ceiling, as I've had another Altec aficionado recommend the same. BTW... if you are new to using Duelund cables, I've found they need at least 250 hours to break in. The initial...

    Modern speakers vs Vintage speakers

The amount of research and effort you've put into your A7's is impressive. It sounds like you are starting to enjoy the fruits of your labor I take it? I look forward to the outcome of your implementation of the JBL supertweeter. My new XO's from Pete Riggle are projected to be complete...

    Modern speakers vs Vintage speakers

I take it you are being facetious, as .1mm equates to .004", about the thickness of a human hair.

    Modern speakers vs Vintage speakers

Beautiful sound! I've just started a dialogue with Pete Riggle to have him build crossovers for my Model 19's. Did you get the super tweeter option? I'm thinking I'll get it, but not sure I'll ever use it.

Step Brothers and Arrested Development (series).
