I went to the Chester Group Audio Show today to primarily meet up with Mike Knowles of Alphason. It has been 35 years since we last saw each other. He dropped out of audio in the 90s. We spoke last year and I was thrilled to hear he was back and making his tonearm again. I bought no13 of his...
I've just had PP-200 catridge arrive (I just can't bring myself to spenfd £000 on something I could dmage so easliy). I only got a short time after setting up for a short listen. First impressions are very favorable. Remarkable value on first impression.
Hugo who sold it to mee uses their...
Fascinating journey Phil. Like many of us it is a journey which often pauses at points but then continues. Like you I have a love of the planar sound. I have owned boxes, SD1s in the 80s with ribbon tweeters, B&W 802s wigh the sealed bass units ( very power hungry...killed my valve amps) but...
I didn't speak to a Derek. The person I dealt with was a chap called Ian, who I understood to be the boss, based out of Chelsea though for technical answers he had me phone someone (can't recall his name) located south of the river. He was very knowledgeable and had been in audio a long time...
HMF Solutions. I got the impression they didn't really know much about it. I asked questions about arm mounting, belts, arm boards and compatibly with MS ones. I suspect they just imported them on the basis of Acoustical Systems name.
The concern I had was to do with serviceability and who...
I was going to buy one of the Acoustical Systems ones in Dec 2020. Arranged top go to London to pick up (during Covid so had to be careful etc) but the day before they cancelled as the speed had gone wrong on it. They emailed a week or 2 later to say it started working properly...I decided to...
I too use a H-Z1. It does work very well. I just wish it had two inputs. Head amps are easier and I got board of messing with SUTs, loading and cartridge matching.
Very sweeping statement. I've yet to come across one that does, but have plans to have a Micro SX5000 clone built to compare.
Mt TD124 doesn't really match up to my DDs.
I would try it at a mounting distance of 291.5mm. That should get you Baerwald at least and hopefully without needing to twist the cartridge in the headshell for alignment.
I think if you read the SmarTractor instructions Dieter suggests mounting a FR64vat 231.5mm rather than the Fidelity...
Is the spindle to pivot distance set up for 15mm overhang, which was the Japanese preferred mounting. If so the stylus will be about 1.6mm short on Baerwald alignment.
I have read and followed all of this with interest.
My thinking is probably simplistic, but often we overcomplicate things.
We are all individuals, with different cultural backgrounds and languages. In different countries, with different domestic enviroments, methods of house construction...
It is interesting that you have got the SAEC to work as many I know who have tried it have not been successful. It has a bad rap as a headshell as a result. I wonder if it is the Glanz arm or Phasemation, who under the Phasetech name used to make a DLC headshell.
Similar only really in the speed accuracy/precision, timing. The presentation varies.
The SP10 is ballsy, particularly with an FR64x.
The Onkyo with a FR64x is very subtle by comparison, almost delicate with great detail and quiet, what I think some call blackness. Frank Schroeder who has one...
Never been an issue in my years of ownership, nor have I heard of the issue outside of a number of caps falling out of spec. Easy to fix.
I've seen it with others, JVC/Victor TT series, again caps out of spec.
As Shakti says, possibly ground issue, dry solder on one of the umbilical pins...
Not necessarily similar, but they have similar traits: speed accuracy/precision, timing. However each has strengths and weaknesses which are subtle in cases.
The motor type (and there is quite a variety) an effect, high torque, low torque etc. change the delivery, as do the materials used in...
Interesting as my thoughts with my SP10 vs L07d are almost opposite.
However my SP10 is in a very different plinth which does have an effect and I use a FR64x with AT33. It is a punchy, ballsy, powerful sound. Detailed with bass.
The L07d with a Hana SL is the more analytical/subtile of the 2...
Micro did make elements of a fair number of machines and a few in their entirety. I think "pioneered" might be a little strong. JVC and TDK were the main motor pioneers. Other manufacturers had their own ideas and they subcontracted the work to Micro.
The main reason for these coming to and...
I'll be very interested in your thoughts.
I have a SP10 MKII/Professional made for studios and has a different PSU. It is in a custom plinth with a FR64x mounted. Very powerful presentation.
Thanks.....I bought one of the brass adapters for the arm to accept a Cardas din from you quite a few years ago, off of the Yahoo group (Howards).
Still haven't got around to doing the rewire!!! Must do so.
