To step up, or not to step up, this is the question:
I heard a friend's Miyajima Zero Mono cartridge in his system yesterday and was quite amazed by the fabulous sound. I need to hear it in my system, yet potentially it offers still greater scale, impact and richness than my Decca cartridges...
as you might imagine, there are numerous programmes to enjoy on R3 (and Radio France Musique (!)) . check out Saturday schedule "inside music", where young music makers take the chair for 2 hours and present what is special to them and why ? Plus live concerts at 1pm weekdays, Proms, and all...
The UK Government's hard working public service mandarins assert (web search -"fm switch off UK" )
"Other recommendations include that there should be no mandated switch-off of analogue radio until at least 2030 - meaning that FM radio broadcasts can continue for at least another decade so the...
Late to this thread, live broadcast music via BBC Radio 3 is a great pleasure, and if one lived in Dover, England, you'd enjoy Radio France Musique also, (even better programming), and when in France, of course, too. The sound quality is special ---nearly as good as LP Playback with Abbas valve...
Whilst I wait for construction of a tonearm, --I understood the implications of Alfred's solo working when I ordered -- he made me a wonderful sounding SME type extender with solid silver conductors for use with Decca heads. Music is full of life with this on the end of an unserviced FR24 MKII...
I reminded myself today that Abbas' phono stage is notably responsive to different power cord (PC) and plug termination designs. I have one of Abbas' PC's and this is a beautiful sounding cable that complements his design. A couple of years ago I started using "Acoustic Revive C8800" PCOCCA...
+1 on Abbas' SPDIF cable; which seems part of the wonderful capability of DAC 2.4SE+, fed from both CD transport and a MUTEC alternative (at half the cost) "Gustard U18". Serious headphone listeners claim this betters MUTEC, which I have heard in my system but returned. U18 is simpler to...
I don't see interior photographs of Abbas' RIAA so here are a handful of mine, delivered summer 2021. With Abbas' recommended valves --Mullard Blackburn mesh long plate EF86's, EL84's and both EZ80 / 81, music off LP's sounds magical - one hears everything in the space of the recording. I took...
@Yorkshireman I too would have ordered the larger 3.2 DAC cited above but for reasons of space chose the shoe box size. I can confirm the power regulation of the 2.4SE+ includes larger glass as pictured in the attached images (taken the day I received from Kyiv --the lady at the post office...
The model hierarchy is helpfully outlined in the following note. I can attest to the smaller shoebox size 2.4SE+ sounding special. Ordered in solidarity seven days after the war started and landed last May in London. I was astonished at how powerful, dynamic, airy and simply musical is the DAC...
Thank you for confirming.
The Abbas replaced a ten year favourite phono stage inbuilt to my Croft preamplifier. That machine sounded very nice with large 6336B rectifier valve, off board dual mono p/s and vintage long plate Mullard ECC83s. The Abbas is more involving.
There is an Abbas RIAA...
The 2.4 SE and perhaps, still more, the 3 series, will bring the most affecting music to one's home, short of a live concert.
@jespera
"I also really enjoy my abbas phonostage. It was its big bottles that convinced me......"
I would like to order another RIAA stage from Abbas with a GD...
Chiming in here with very positive report of DAC 2.4SE with GD transformer, ordered in solidarity the first week of the war. I am a vinyl and FM radio head. Being very highly satisfied with Abbas' RIAA stage, ordered a year earlier, I ordered the 2.4SE hoping I'd get good sound from Radio France...
Hello, I have one of Glenn's preamps and I looked for your recommended "Mullard 8133" but could find no reference. Would you kindly confirm this IS a Mullard number and perhaps send a link to a source ? Many thanks.
On the ESL57 front, I recently took delivery of rebuilt panels and...
