That´s good to hear! So if you are curious to try expensive tubes like the Tele 801S, you only need to invest in one.
But at the same time this means that the triodes need to be perfectly balanced inside the tube as each triode will cater for one channel. That´s pretty tough to find with NOS tubes.
I have read this comment as well. But when I asked this question to Anelli, I was forwarded to the tech guy from the German Aqua distributor. He was totally sure this is not the case and both tubes are being used at the same time - at least for the balanced connection. Therefore I also put in...
That´s a really unique room shape and speaker placement. It´s hardly comparable to normal room setups.
You wrote that you auditioned MBL and GP before. Were they auditioned in this room or in a regular room?
I would assume, if an MBL design does not work well in this room, a Bayz would also not...
That´s why I put the "might" in the sentence.
With horns (and other narrow dispersion concepts) it´s really hard to deal with the coloured first reflections. Ideally you would get rid of them through absorption. Hard reflective surfaces are a bit unforgiving here. Or if the room is large enough...
I just happened to come across this thread and would like to comment on the (mis)conceptions about omnis.
I am into the hobby for almost 25 years and have listened extensively to all kinds of loudspeaker concepts (including many horns). And I finally settled with omnis being the way to go for...
Again, regarding the Telefunken 801s:
It´s a tube with very special qualities, I have not fund anywhere else, yet. It delivers over the top resolution and a very holographic presentation. This might feel impressive at fist glance. But to my ears, it sounds somewhat artificial in those qualities...
The CV4024 are a special military type and were produced in large numbers. They are more readily available today. But the ones I have tested were significantly more mushy than all ECC81 labeled Mullards I tried. I have never had an older ECC81 from Mitcham, though, so I can´t tell for sure...
Wow, I am impressed that you tested the La Scala against the T+A 3100 HV generation and preferred the Aqua. Sure, the Aqua is the better value proposition, but I would have expected the T+A to come out on top.
The La Scala uses ECC81 type tubes, not ECC82. So you would need a Telefunken 801s...
I am now also using the LaScala MKII Optologik + LinQ in my system.
What I can confirm is that I don´t hear any distortion on the balanced XLR output (my concern after the review mentioned above).
Tried some different tubes in it. Did not like a Telefunken 801S and finally settled with older...
Do you really think cables can make that much of a difference?
My room has an unfortunate combination of characteristics. On the one hand it´s sucking out the region around 100-200Hz, where the warm body of voices lives and another suckout from 700-900Hz. And in addition to that, it´s...
Hi everybody,
it´s been about two years now that I have lived with the Courantes and I am still super happy with them. I feel absolutely no urge to upgrade speakers anymore, anytime soon. I have been playing around with electronics, room optimization etc. during the two years and I am slowly...
Did you compare balanced and unbalanced outputs of the La Scala Optologic?
There seemed to be some transformer issues leading to high distortion in the old Stereophile review of the formula when using the balanced output. The unbalanced output fared way better in this regard. Not sure if this...
Well, aesthetics are indeed subjective. I also don´t like the looks of the GP speakers. Even the HRS and Borderland look like overly wide pencils to me ;-) Everything from MBL has somewhat of an oldschool baroque appeal to me. Though I have to admit that I like the large melon of the 101 as it...
I own the Bayz Courante and have auditioned the German Physiks HRS-120-D (extended bass vs. regular HRS-120 - then became the HRS-130) some years ago with the same amp, but not in the same room. The audition room of the German Physiks had way more room behind the speakers to the wall than in my...
Ok, in terms of Goosebumps, these are the tracks that get me everytime:
Peter Gabriel - San Jacinto (orchestra version from New Blood)
Eva Cassidy - Imagine
I guess everybody knows it, but it´s soo awesome. She also gets me with "Fields Of Gold".
Bruckner #4 - Celibidache
This and some later...
I´m really wondering that 6moons claims "The result is a lessened difference between recordings".
My experience with the Courante in my room is the exact opposite. I have never heard such vast differences in various music pieces. The way the sonic events are presented are extremely specific to...
This is the Counterpoint discussion, but as it seems like this thread has established itself as the main one for all about Bayz, I´m posting my impressions on the Courante (with 2.0 drivers) in here.
I have had the Courantes for three weeks now in my living room and spent the first two weeks...
Hi Caesar,
I am currently looking into active bass traps:
PSI Audio AVAA C20
They are claimed to be as effective as passive bass traps 20x their size - without damping upper frequencies and reaching very low.
Sounds too good to be true, so I am currently looking for real-life reports on them.
Ok, got it. Quite ingenious, I must say.
Is the black piano gloss version of the speaker also made of carbon fiber, but with a piano gloss finish instead of sight carbon?
Thanks for the explanation.
So do I get it right, that all mid-frequencies are indeed of opposite phase inside the tubes, but they get completely absorbed?
How can they be absorbed without making the light chassis vibrate?
And the deep frequencies, which are not absorbed, are being extended...
Quick question about the Courante and Counterpoint designs:
Why are lower frequencies - being emitted from the rear ports - not playing out of phase?
Because the woofer drivers seem to be firing into the tubes with the exact opposite phase than towards the tweeter.
I´m a bit puzzled about that...
Very interesting discussion!
Based on my personal experience, I find Duke´s arguments very compelling.
There is bunch of advocates for near-field listening or very directional speaker designs who argument that you should get as much of the listening room out of the way in order to hear nothing...
Bob is right. I already tried to negotiate for bass traps - no chance. ;-)
But in my current system I have very little problems with low frequency room modes. The room swallowing a lot of low frequency energy is actually more of a problem. Therefore I have smoothened out the low frequency...
I find it really interesting to hear that the Bayz sound significantly differentl than the MBL as both feature a fullrange omni radiation pattern (except for deep bass). I also know German Physiks speakers and I would consider them pretty similar to MBL in this regard - though they are a bit...
Thank you, this is very valuable information - and pretty much in line with my theoretical thoughts on the topic.
But on the other hand it´s somewhat bad news for me as I am pretty inflexible in placement in my room. I don´t have a dedicated listening room, but it´s the living room which also...
