Hi-Fi is NOT a subjective hobby.

Hi Geoff, Not replying for PeterA, but for speaking only for myself: i think most people are dishonest, and many of those are not aware of their own dishonesty. There are lots of reasons why people lie to themselves about things, including because the super-expensive well-reviewed ultra-thingie...

Hi-Fi is NOT a subjective hobby.

May be the comment generally covered a lot of the silliness in this thread, and that all comments aren’t about one person?

    What Cartridge(s) Is Everyone Using

I use an Allaerts MC-1b on a Schroeder Reference, and that combo has not waivered as my top dawg for many years…but on my daily driver TD-124 i usually play with any number of MM carts: Grace F9e, Micro-Acoustics 3002, B&O mmc-2, Stantons snd Pickerings. But i recently popped an AudioQuest AQ...

    RIP Jack Clark

After speaking with Jack Clark just 6 weeks ago, i learned today from his daughter Kacey that he had passed unexpectedly. Jack was the owner and technician of JM Technical Arts, a Revox authorized repair shop in Mount Juliet Tennessee. Over the years he did astounding work on a few B77s for...

    What Cartridge(s) Is Everyone Using

I just scored an AT24, which I think is the same as the Signet TK10ml, or close. What an incredible cartridge for a price that's 1/10th of a few MCs that I have. I am a huge fan of whatever the special sauce they use to provide such incredible value, both historically and in their current line...

    Tube Dampers

Watch the video i posted. Many of the reasons people give for why they work are debunked. if your tubes are microphonic, they need to be replaced, not damped.

    Tube Dampers

Every tweak every audiophile does increases soundstage, refines the bass, clarifies micro-dynamics, and brings out richer harmonic texture. And then, after every tube is swathed in yak’s butter and squeezed by himilayan silicone, all interconnects are frozen in deep space, and bits of ancient...

    Best SS amp for $200

Look in the mirror, “son.” Thanks for being the troll I sensed you to be. It makes it more entertaining to read your horse manure. Why are you here? What is your real objective? Did you think being rude and insulting would magically produce a $200 amp? There are better ways for finding a good...

    Tube Dampers

I’ve tried dampers, back when i had hope that some 2-digit investment would improve my equipment by a 4-digit amount. Wanted them to work, but really they did nothing. Fooling oneself doesn’t overcome the basic physics problem.

Referring to someone - anyone - as “highly ignorant” is a sure giveaway that you are a troll.

    Ordering a Bokrand Tonearm

Alfred has been in hospital. He got out only a couple of days ago. I can imagine this is beyond frustrating for many who have ordered and not received their arms. Promises matter, and in this Alfred has let down the side. We all should know his story by now, so no need to explain. When you do...

What to do with a B77?

To Foxbat and Adrian, thank you both for the kind words…

What to do with a B77?

I don’t know about the rest of you folks, but for me this aging thing hasn’t been easy! My hand issue makes it hard to do things that i could do 5 years ago without thinking or looking. Eyesight is going too, so i’m now getting rid of most of my cartridge collection before i break them all. But...

What to do with a B77?

I don’t i’ve ever been 1000% right about anything, but thank you. I’m trimming a tree with my family in the Berkshires of western Massachusetts, and listening to Bing Crosby through my phone on a little Bose thingie that came with the house. And we’re having a great time.

What to do with a B77?

So i converted my B77 to 7 1/2 and 15 ips, and changed out a board with the Audvance switchable NAB and IEC board, and modified it to 2-track as well. There’s a little tweak that will allow me to go directly from the head block to a tape pre at a later date (purely a financial issue). But since...

    Anyone using a Gray 108?

Good idea! I’ll try to snap some pics tonight or tomorrow… it’s so simple, and quite modest. But it does make my wife and i happy. For years it was the “2nd system” when i had Nagra VPAs and PL-P driving Sonus faber Amati Homage (the originals) with a Teres 340 front end. I’d be lying like a...

    Anyone using a Gray 108?

I’m thinking we should start a thread based around all the characters and equipment that coalesced around 30 Watts Street at fi. Not a few of us hold that period as very special, and undeniably it was a major force in the resurgence of flea powered SETs and high-efficiency speakers (not to...

    Anyone using a Gray 108?

My speakers are JC Morrison Pipe Dreams, driven by a Don Garber/Nori Komuro amp. I think I’m permanently damaged from all the solder fumes i breathed in at that awesome place.

Very cool stuff Basile! Those IO speakers are really intriguing (not that the German Physics aren’t, but I know them having listened to them at a friend’s many times - they’re fantastic). welcome to What’s Best!

Sweet!! Bokrand/SPU is a great combo. What’s on the other arm? And are those SUTs from Redboy?

What to do with a B77?

It was packed very well. JM Technical Arts has sent hundreds of Revox around the world. A few get beaten up by the troglodytes at fedex. It happens. There are very few “packed properly” boxes that would survive a 20’ drop from a cargo bay. Hence it is going back (and presumably will be returned)...

What to do with a B77?

I am however mostly to blame for the duration of this fiasco. I didn’t open the box for months. The lesson is to check immediately for any damage, even if you don’t intend to use it for a while. I’m glad that box i sent to you with the remarkable Tedeska cartridge wasn’t a victim of the same...
