Just in case anyone is still reading this thread: support from Boulder and from their UK distributors YG Acoustics was exemplary. A new board was made up by Boulder and delivered to YG in Cambridge. Their top guy Chris Rees and colleague brought the board here on Monday and fitted and tested in...
At the moment I don;t know because still waiting for more info. But it looks as though it was connected with a brief power outage affecting our area at about 23.20 GMT last Monday. I had switched pre- and power to standby as usual at 22.00 hrs that evening but first noticed the light the...
Thanks to all for suggestions. I've connected Boulder and they say they will need to make up a replacement board for 1160 and get it to me in the UK in the next week or so.
But your suggestions enabled me to eliminate lots of possible causes including my own stupidity - so many thanks,
Jeff
Thanks to both for your suggestions, all of which I've tried, but amp still showing constant red. I've emailed Boulder to get contact for repairs here in the UK.
Thanks again.
Jeff
Thanks for this - the manual does indeed refer to the DC offset detection (but I'm not a tech guy).. And it also says reset the breakers on the rear panel. But it doesn't say what the breakers look like - Joey above says they are the 4 circular buttons, two on each side of the mains power...
I assume those are the ones numbered 6, 12, 12, 6? Press in any order? "Unit off" means with the unit attached to the mains but with the rear panel switch at OFF? Thanks again.
Sorry to be so dim.
Jeff
Thanks joey_v. Didn't know there is a kill switch as well as the rear panel main on/off (left/right) switch. I can't see any reference to it in the manual so can't locate it. Can you help again, please? V grateful.
Jeff
Have a feeling my 1160 is ill. Front light showing steady red. Have tried connections, switches, etc etc but no dice. This looks like an issue for the dealer/importer unless I have missed something. Yes/ No?
Many thanks.
Jeff
That last line is the key in my limited experience. We have a number of Devolo powerline adaptors around the house which work really well for extending internet reception but are a menace for the audio system. The Boulder 508 picked up all kinds of rubbish when (briefly) on the same spur as a...
Hi IB
Tragically I've just been researching some of your fantastic gear and can only report a stratospheric envy rating... I think I must at least get a new needle for my Dansette so that I could perhaps take the pound coin off the pickup arm.
That last sentence describes my actual experience...
If you find that your 2160 does not after all find favour with your moggies, I would be very happy to offer it a new home, free of charge. I have the ideal place where it would be comfortable. It would not lack for anything by way of creature comforts and it would have its own dedicated power...
Thanks for suggestion - I did so in May but seem to have caught them by surprise in terms of their software updates for 1110!
I am sure I saw some reference on this site to a member being able to control 1160 on/off from the 1110 but for the life of me I can't find it now. Maybe that member...
I took delivery of this combo in April and just really love the way they bring music to life. But I would like to be able to switch the 1160 on and off through the 1110 controls on the remote. I can't find anything in the handbooks to help with this: not the end of the world, but it would add a...
I'm very grateful for all these comments. I have noticed that there is an apparent loss of high frequency detail even with modern recordings of e.g. violin sonatas where one might expect to hear more of the bow-on-string detail. Choral works can also sound blurry. On the other hand listening...
Could I just chip in with a basic question, please? Listening room is about 23' by 13' by 8' and is actually the main sitting room so can't be totally audio-dedicated. It has wall-to-wall carpeting and a fair mount of upholstery.
From members' pics it looks as though most rooms have at last...
Thanks, Yeti. Powerline works v well for extending wifi range as well as providing sockets for cat cables, so v useful for a largeish house. But I might try disconnecting all the units and see what happens. Trouble is that wifi range is then much reduced! Oh well, can't win them all... I...
Delighted with new Boulder kit including a 508 phono stage (used with MC cartridge). But if the volume is high (higher than necessary, to be honest), there is audible background noise - a ticking accompanied by low-level "motor-boating". I've been pretty careful with cable disposition, and the...
Speakers are Triangle Magellan Cellos (see review at https://www.soundstageultra.com/index.php/equipment-menu/524-triangle-magellan-cello-loudspeakers ) - superb especially with solo voices and small group jazz or chamber music; Marantz SA10 SACD player;
Linn LP12/Ittok LVII/Clearaudio...
Agree with this on basis of using an 860 with a 1010, now traded in for a 1110 + 1160. The improvement was immediately noticeable straight out of the box. The combination of power, clarity and delicacy is unbelievable.
Fascinating - this is exactly what I was trying to describe in my much less learned and amateurish response of 2 Jan! I had no idea that the Tacet company existed, far less that they were exploring and resolving the end-of-side distortion issue I described. Perhaps they might have given me a...
OK here's a simple one maybe... Recently acquired Boulder amps and Clearaudio cartridge working wonderfully but problem is how to stop floor vibrations getting to turntable ( Linn) and causing arm to skip as I approach or move away from it. Once I'm clear of the rack/ttable all is well. Floor is...
Using LP12 in main system (Ittok LVII, Cleauraudio Titanium V2, Boulder 508), and vintage Garrard 301in small system (SME 3012 Series 2, Denon DL103, GSP Elevator/Era Gold, Loricraft plinth). Garrard and SME purchased 1962, LP12 1989 approx.
Hi Joe
Interesting that you listen to classical music because this has always been where the problem was at its worst. tmallin's response above contains a link to a good explanation of "end-of-side distortion" if you click on the word "here" at the end of his fist paragraph - though the link...
Thanks for this. I thought it was just my stupidity/clumsiness to blame but it does seem to be a design issue. The Clearaudio distributor himself confessed to doing the same thing. Paradoxically it was a stylus issue that got me started on decent audio years ago, when I realised the pickup in...
Meant to add that I run a Blusound Vault 2 through the DAC in the Marantz for Hi res streaming from Qobuz and Tidal and also as a library for Cds, though the actual CD played through the SA10 sounds a bit better than the copied version on Vault.
