Is Your Loudspeaker Perfect For You?

They are very close. I like vocals a lot and they are exceptional at this. I also like deep, natural sounding bass, and they do an excellent job with this. They also have a very deep, wide soundstage with an excellent center image. And they sound great at both low and high volumes. I tend to...

    Vacuum State RTP3D preamp

This is the same schematic that I posted, which I believe is the RTP3D. The RTP3C schematic was available on the Vacuum State website for a long time (although doesn't appear to be working now) and is a bit different. The main differences are: The RTP3C uses a single current source for the input...

    Vacuum State RTP3D preamp

I think there may be more than one version, but this should be close for the line stage. I don't think the phono stage changed from the RTP3C.

    SET amp owners thread

The FS is 28.3Hz but with the servo control, the amp can adjust the output to provide flat response to well below 20Hz. They are nominally 16ohm so that they can provide an optimal load when driven with two in parallel. The sensitivity is not specified, but when I hooked up a peak reading RMS...

Thank you. I checked out your audiogon system page. Looks like you've got some nice DIY builds as well. Nice work!

    SET amp owners thread

I'm using a pair of DIY 300B PSET monoblocks and DIY planar-magnetic line-array dipoles. This was my first tube DIY project, so I decided to start with a kit. I used the ANK 300B PSET Interstage C-Core monoblock kit, but only used parts of the kit - primarily the transformers and basic circuit...

    Vacuum State RTP3D preamp

Thanks for linking my thread on SHF. I am planning to share details of my build on WBF once I finish it, but that will probably be several months from now. Unfortunately, I don't have a lot of spare time to work on it.

Prototype GR-Research Line Force Loudspeakers. .Ultimate In Transparency

They are planar magnetic drivers with a symmetrical push-pull magnet structure.

I've now got about 300 hours on them. Pretty spectacular IMHO.

    Vacuum State RTP3D preamp

NOS tubes, or new production? From what I understand, Allen recommended Electro Harmonix tubes so that's what I was planning to start with. I'm building a line stage only - no phono preamp.

    Vacuum State RTP3D preamp

I am planning to build one of these but NOS 6922 tubes are getting pretty hard to find. What tubes are you using?

    Alsyvox in Seattle

Best sound at the show IMO. They sound even better in Rhapsody's Portland showroom, but they were pretty spectacular at PAF, particularly after settling in for a couple days.

    Belden Iconoclast cables

I'm not very good at explaining what I hear, but I'll give it a shot. These cables provided an overall improvement in clarity and pace, and specifically sharper transients and more natural decay. This made it easier to isolate individual instruments. On instruments like double-bass, guitar...

    Belden Iconoclast cables

I'll add my vote as another impressed Iconoclast customer. While I've always thought that cables can make a positive impact on system SQ, I've rarely felt that the price of more-expensive cables was worth it relative to other equipment upgrades. My current system requires fairly lengthy 7M...

What Types of Digital Components and Gadgets have made the Biggest Positive Impact in Your System?

    1) Roon. I love how easy it is to manage my music library and find new music. 2) Denafrips Gaia DDC with i2s connection to DAC. This was a very noticeable improvement. 3) Denafrips Terminator Plus DAC. Beautiful sounding DAC.

    Tinnitus and our hobby.

I've been dealing with Tinnitus for 25 years now. I don't really notice it that much unless there is no other sound. So I am generally listening to music whenever possible. It has certainly reduced my ability to hear certain nuances in audio systems, but hasn't diminished my ability to tell when...

I was comparing the Gaia with i2s with the Terminator connected direct to my Roon server via USB (AQ Diamond) and via a Bryston BDP-2 streamer using AES3 (DH Labs D110). Using the Bryston was slightly better than connecting the Roon server directly to the Terminator. Replacing the Bryston with...

I'm using DH Labs D750 cables for the clock (1M with BNC is $175 retail). Their digital cables are an excellent value. For i2s, I did not have the same experience as RikkiPoo. While the better i2s cable was noticeable, it was a fairly subtle difference IMHO. But I might have gotten lucky with...

I suspect he might be confusing the T2 with the Terminator with upgraded DSP and/or the inline change Denafrips made around April 2020 where they upgraded to EVOX caps and TXCO oscillators. This was still the original Terminator though, not the TII.

I also found i2s to be superior, including to AES3 which I was using before getting the Gaia. Even with an inexpensive HDMI cable, I though i2s was the superior interface. I am now using a Tubulus Argentus cable, but the difference between this and a $12 cable from Amazon is more subtle than...

    Any love for Purifi?

The Toroidy transformer has 2x45V (15.6A each), and 3x15V (2A each) secondaries. This is a custom Audio Supreme model. For the high voltage rails, I used two Universal Power Supply boards from DIYAudioStore.com. These are stacked with the first feeding the second. Both of these boards have the...

    Any love for Purifi?

I bought just the Purifi class-D modules from Purifi. Everything else was sourced from various other suppliers. The cases were custom fabricated by Modushop in Italy (purchased through the DIYAudioStore.com site). I'd be happy to provide more detail if you're interested.

    Any love for Purifi?

I've been using a pair of DIY Purifi monoblocks for the past few weeks and have been very pleased with them. I spent a while yesterday comparing them to my Parasound JC5, and I think they are comparable. The JC5 is slightly warmer sounding and a tiny bit smoother in the midrange. The Purifi amps...

On the Terminator (which doesn't have clock outputs), adding the Gaia and switching to i2s was huge, but the Gaia clocks are probably better than the Terminator clocks, which can't be said about the TP. So when you connect the TP clocks to the DDC, you're using the TP's clocks. I suspect the...

I still have an Yggy A2 and also a TP (which replaced a Terminator). I agree that the Denafrips DACs are a nice step up from the Yggy although the Yggy is a very nice DAC in its price range. I haven't heard the Venus or Pontus so not sure how Denafrips' comparably priced DACs compared to the...

I received my Tubulus cable on Monday, so don't have much time on it yet. It does seem to be a small improvement over the cheapo cable I had installed, but so far no where near as much a change as adding the Gaia with i2s connection in the first place.
