Linn LP 12... anyone else still like this design?

If you are still in doubt - as you may not have not heard the massive sonic improvements wrought by the silicone mushrooms - I suggest you make contact with Lennart at LinnArts (Sweden). LinnArts sells all LINN tricks and treasures - including most third-party offerings. I purchased my silicone...

Linn LP 12... anyone else still like this design?

@mtemur Using your own standards, let me ask these questions... Now that the top LINN LP12 offering uses a DC motor - NOT an AC motor - were we fooled by LINN for 40-years? Now that the top LINN LP12 offering uses a sub-chassis bonded to the armboard - not three lossy little PK screws - were...

Linn LP 12... anyone else still like this design?

SKODA used to make a car with the very best implementation of a "rubber donut" - instead of a universal joint - to connect the driveshaft. The rotation of the wheels relied upon the rubber donut to transfer the torque smoothly and reliably. SKODA made the best rubber donut design around! There...

    advice sought, turntables $10-20k

My point was (is) that LP12 tune-up services constitute a significant portion of revenues for LINN dealerships - a big part of helping to make an “exclusive” LINN DEALERSHIP (traditionally, the strong LINN preference…) financially viable in this day and age. In this way, increased LINN...

Don_Camillo on knocking down, draging out the Linn LP12 to get it even more the best player of the world

Don, Nobody will be able to provide the data you have asked for. The best you can expect is to read the many global raves from actual owners - who adore their LPs - and have made the change. As you have touched upon, these pressurised silicone mushrooms are carrying the full weight of not only...

Don_Camillo on knocking down, draging out the Linn LP12 to get it even more the best player of the world

You need to talk to some of the hundreds of LP12 enthusiasts who have made the switch to springless - and will never return. Or perhaps see if you can find someone to demo a springless LP12?

Don_Camillo on knocking down, draging out the Linn LP12 to get it even more the best player of the world

The AUDIOSILENTE Silicone Mushrooms are clear-coloured. I bought mine from LINNARTS in Sweden. LINNARTS (Sweden) I hear that they are also able to be sourced individually from the following: - RS Product Code & Details Another source has suggested that the product is actually called the Taica...

Don_Camillo on knocking down, draging out the Linn LP12 to get it even more the best player of the world

Nice work, Don. Nice thread too. I'd like to recommend that you consider replacing the LINN Springs with $100 worth of AUDIOSILENTE Silicone Mushrooms. It is still very much a suspended turntable, but the suspension rests on silicone mushrooms - instead of metal springs - which not only...

Linn LP 12... anyone else still like this design?

Removing the LP12 baseboard is popular globally - but does put little fingers at risk of AC shock - unless you are running a DC motor, like me. One option for AC motor users, is to cover the base with a weed-mat type fabric, again emulating an open base, but keeping little fingers out. YMMV...

Linn LP 12... anyone else still like this design?

Sure Don! Here's a link... BLACK DIAMOND RACING... Looks like they are selling for $90 CAD for a trio. I recall buying a round dozen back in the day - at least 20-years ago - giving me a bit of flexibility in terms of 4 sets of 3 OR 3 sets of 4. Not cheap, but NO REGRETS! ;)

Ultra-rigid carbon fibre BLACK DIAMOND Racing Cones, mounted on threads inserted in the plinth, providing the most direct vibration "drain" to ground. Sounds fantastic!

    Turntable Recommendation ~ $10K

I'm not sure of your DIY capability, but... If I were starting again, I would build-up a LINN LP12 using the bare minimum of genuine LINN parts. LINN Karousel Bearing, LINN Sub-platter and LINN Platter BOSTON AUDIO Carbon Platter Mat AUDIOSILENTE Silicone Mushrooms [Discard LINN Springs...

    Question for Brinkmann owners...

+100% I too can attest that with our (pimped) ORIGIN LIVE Advanced DC motor, moving from THE ORIGIN LIVE 9V wall wart PSU, to a LHY 160W/24V Ultra-Low-Noise Linear Power Supply utterly transformed our LINN SONDEK LP12 playback. Depending upon the season and the in-room temperature, ultimate...

Best possible tonearm for Linn LP12

Thanks for confirming, Booker. I'm in touch with dozens of "springless" LP12 converts worldwide. I've never known a single one of them to revert to the (singing) springs. Good to hear that you made the change and reaped the sonic rewards. There's no missing that infernal bounce either, is...

    Ray Samuels Phono Stage?

I realise this is an old thread, but hopefully this feedback will assist someone... I spent a number of years trying to get the NIGHTHAWK phono stage to sing. I had read so many rave reviews about the NIGHTHAWK - but simply could not get fully engaged with its sound - that I almost...

    Question for Brinkmann owners...

So, it been a few years, rDin. What is your overall impression of your BRINKMAN BARDO? Also, I'm wondering what table you came from, in terms of a reference point. Any outstanding itches that still need scratching? ;)

A very cheap but extremely effective tweak for records’ static

Well, I bought the BBQ lighter thingie and have been using it for a while. In use, I currently start the LP spinning on my LP12 and hold the heated element about 5mm away from the LP outer edge and give it a dozen rotations. Following this, I sweep the record with a brush, hoping that the crud...

Has anyone moved on from idlers, Garrards??

Has anyone moved on from idlers, Garrards??

I can certainly recommend the WAND PLUS arm fitted to a LINN LP12. Our heavily modified LP12 sounds superb, even with the lowly DENON DL-110. Frankly, many music-lovers would probably be very happy to stop there. We have since mounted the stock standard DENON DL-103R and the music-making...

Has anyone moved on from idlers, Garrards??

I use a WAND PLUS 9.5"on our hot-rodded LP12. The WAND uses a fairly slim central "pole" for mounting and will fit any (original) REGA hole of similar. It can be a bit fiddly to fettle - and get all of the critical parameters right - but I'm not sure why there are references here to this arm...

    advice sought, turntables $10-20k

Of course, there are significant global revenues to be generated by insisting on LP12 "tuning" by a specialist - but quite honestly, it is totally unnecessary. We shipped our beloved LP12 from New Zealand to China and simply removed the outer platter - and left the sub-platter in the bearing...

There is no "tuning" involved. It is just a very simple process of levelling. A one-off task. Whilst the AUDIO SILENTE SILICONE MUSHROOMS still provide a serious degree of suspension - and thereby, isolation - the sub-chassis travel becomes extremely limited. If you have access to a light...

Before you move-off… Install the cheap and reversible AUDIO SILENTE SILICONE MUSHROOMS to replace the LINN springs. By doing so, you will finally hear all of what the LP12 is sonically capable - and never again have to worry about fiddling with the set-up. You won’t miss the infernal bounce...

LP-12 owners: What's your favorite cartridge?

This was a great read! I wanted to add, that for anyone who feels that they have reached the end of the road with their LP12 - and is ready to invest in a whole new table - I would strongly encourage them to try one more (cheap) LP12 tweak... The "Springless"LP12! Imagine an LP12 with a...

    First High End Turntable

In the 1980s - like so many here - I started my first vinyl journey with a REGA PLANAR 3 - upgraded to the RB300 tonearm with an Audio Technica AT32E II MC cartridge. It all sounded great - but not perfect. Compact Discs hit the market and I traded it all, on chasing the silver disc - and...

STST Motus II in the house

True. The shipping is killer. I usually try to gather 6 LPs in a group to make it worthwhile. Still not cheap - but bearable. I have tried some of the other Selected Sounds albums, but none compare - to my ears. YMMV.
