Why does my TV sound more real?

Recently, after listening to some Youtube videos of top equipment playing at shows, as well as Youtube videos of SET's (45, 2A3, 300B, 845, 211 and 4212), on my computer, then listening to my own system playing Original Source Deutsche Grammophon records, I shut everything down and went...

What do measurements say about SET’s

A 211-based SET Ongaku tribute from Uesugi Ken (Otomon Laboratory, Japan) that I recently commissioned is finished and will be shipped soon. He sent me the following measurements: frequency response: 16Hz-45KHz (22 watts/8ohm) hum level: 0.2mV THD: 5% at 22W I am requesting advice from the...

Anyone have experience with the Decware Sarah?

I have put a deposit down (to get onto the three-year waiting list) for this amplifier without audition (only heard YouTube video of one playing). Does anyone out there either own one or listened enough to review it? It is fairly unique by its use of voltage regulating valves of different...

    The Decware Sarah

Wondering if any members have taken delivery of a Decware Sarah (SEWE300B) SET stereo amplifier and could answer a few questions? 1. Does it play well without a pre-amplifier as advertised, or is a pre-amplifier essential? 2. The Sarah uses voltage regulator tubes for each power tube, the OC2...

    Craft (Small Batch, One-Step Pressings)

I have an analogue vinyl playback rig that sounds best when playing AAA vinyl, especially those recording labels that go the extra distance to make sure they are cutting the best they are capable of. I have sometimes been lucky in my purchases (Classic Records Clarity) and unlucky as well (MoFi...

The pure analogue LP purveyors, in order of excellence in presence

Hi folks, I am looking for a list of companies that produce vinyl recordings that are pure analogue D-2-D, or tape to cutter, with valve microphones and no digital mastering what-so-ever, and your opinion as to their position in the hierarchy, which sounds best at the number one spot, continued...

Something positive going on in New York

Has anyone been following this: I only chanced upon this guy by accident looking up SET stuff. The presentation of his speakers (similar to Altec VOT) and version of 300B SET's as art, playing music in a NY art gallery is cool.

What car comes with the most incredible sound system available

What car manufacturer supplies (stock or as available option) the best-sounding music playback system? Who makes it and what does it consist of, and what modifications to the vehicle are made to support that sound. Anyone have an opinion on this?

what gauge wire fits into Altec A7 speaker clips?

Hi all, I bought my Altec A7's used. They came with a newly rebuilt crossover, wired with thick stranded wire that I couldn't get into the small holes of the speaker clips. I ended up stripping about 1/2" of insulation back, then using a knife cutting off >1/2 of the copper strands, twisting...

Best analogue recording of Satie's Gymnopedies?

I love an emotionally filled rendition of the 3 Gymnopedies from Satie (the first especially). I had read that "the" recording to own is Erik Satie on Angel Records 35442. I found one on Discogs advertised as being "Near mint" media and Very Good sleeve so purchased it. The record and cover...

What would one need to spend to buy a system like yours?

I am curious, but understand that many would not want to put the figure down in print (wife might be monitoring the website!). But, in order to get an idea of where we are in the spectrum, how much would someone have to spend to duplicate your (best if you have more than one) audio system?

    Vinyl Bars/Audiophile Bars/Japanese Jazz Cafe's

Have any of you built and/or run a Vinyl Bar? I have read about Japanese Jazz Bar's/Cafe's in the past and been quite interested in knowing more about them. In my own country (England) there are few examples: 1. Brilliant Corners, London: DJ plays Vinyl and Valves through Klipschorns, new...

    Definition of Analog/Analogue

Just noticed one definition of "Analog" by Merriam-Webster as "being the same as", or "analogous". I think they are saying that listening to an analog/analogue playback is analogous to listening to a live event. I do not seem to be able to find that definition under digital however?

    This hobby of ours

I read a pretty good description of us in an Esquire article: https://www.esquire.com/uk/culture/news/a8618/are-the-audiophiles-hearing-something-were-not/ and ask our members, do we hear something that others do not? The article also mentions an audiophile with a dedicated room in Norfolk...

Differentiating and allocating improvements to turntable vs tonearm

I have upgraded my Garrard 301 greatly with solid brass chassis, new bearing, oversized brass platter, plinth of Panzerholz and new Reed 5A tangential tonearm. I plan to write up what changes I find when back. When I listen to it and write up my findings, how do I determine which...
