Visit to Todd (sbnx) Avantgarde Trio G3 in Parker, Texas

Anyway…. Kudos to @sbnx Todd for this sharing this detailed, informative and most helpful thread and bringing to life the story of what it takes and the rewards of investing a lot of time and energy into speaker set up. I’ve heard Trios many times and have some appreciation of what they can...

I have a pair of Duo XDs and agree the only speaker upgrade I would consider in this room is Duo GT. Mine are toed straight at my face and then I'm gradually moving them outwards until I lose the imagery and then will tweak them back in.

Do you mind me asking what you moved on to and whether you kept either of the arm or the cart?

I have the 7" Viv Labs and can confirm it is something quite different that produces very intriguing results that may make you scratch your head.

FWVLIW I've owned both of those carts and for my ears and in my set up the ART-1000 was significantly better. Audio Technica have probably sold a decent number of ART-1000s and its interesting that you rarely see one on the second hand market*. Maybe this indicates that a. they're happy with...

Given that all those cartridges you mention sound very different to each other I think this is one of those moments where there is no substitute for first hand experience. Ideally it would be good if you could get opportunity to have a listen for yourself before deciding. Enthusiastic...

Well the answer to your questions involves a bit of 'it depends'. Reviews can be useful to some extent but of course include a whole heap of variables that can make them then difficult to translate into practical use. Different equipment, different music, different tastes and so on. So...

Good question, I'm keen to know if anyone has tried a Dava on a Graham Elite too?

Do Mobile Fidelity Vinyl Re-issues Have a Digital Step in the Process?

Not sure how much of the above is strictly on topic anymore. Can the handbags be shunted onto another thread which I’m not following, or preferably put away all together.

Do Mobile Fidelity Vinyl Re-issues Have a Digital Step in the Process?

I really don't understand why the prosecutorial approach would have anything to do with a lot of what most ordinary people would see as 'audiophile mumbo-jumbo'. Rather than trying to fight out in court what is the best mastering process etc, isn't this just about proving that the records...

Horns with SS amp instead of Tube (se)!?

Until recently I had a Pass XA30.8 power amp running with Duo XDs and it was very nice indeed. However the addition of a Dartzeel preamp meant that the total gain in front of the speakers produced too much hiss. The Pass was regrettably sacrificed and replaced with a pair of very nice SIT...

Initial impressions home demoing Dartzeel NHB-18NS

Off to have a new set of replacement batteries fitted to the 18NS tomorrow :) As I'm likely to pay the balance off on the unit too, I'm rather hoping that listening to the unit via battery power as intended makes a reasonable audible difference!

Do Mobile Fidelity Vinyl Re-issues Have a Digital Step in the Process?

Thanks for posting this Ron. As you highlight But its been harder to track down precisely when he's said it, as its typically an off hand comment on a video here and there and Michael has made more than a few videos! As I said before I don't really hold anything against him, except I do...

Do Mobile Fidelity Vinyl Re-issues Have a Digital Step in the Process?

This is nothing to do with my post about Fremer up thread except its an interesting interview and mastering studio walk around with Fremer and Eric Boulanger of The Bakery who worked with Doug Sax at the Mastering Lab. There's some interesting moments when Eric is talking about cutting from...

Do Mobile Fidelity Vinyl Re-issues Have a Digital Step in the Process?

You're missing the point Ron. I'm not being dismissive but I don't care whether you accept it or not. Your request for proof is very telling even if you can't see that yourself. A lot of people who have watched, read and listened to Fremer over a period of time will recognise how I've...

Do Mobile Fidelity Vinyl Re-issues Have a Digital Step in the Process?

Sorry I don't agree that this is 'snarky'. Its my opinion, subjective as it is, take it or leave it. I've used as loose language as Fremer uses so I don't think this is inappropriate. Lets get something straight - I'm poking fun at Fremer but don't misinterpret this as anything more. I...

Do Mobile Fidelity Vinyl Re-issues Have a Digital Step in the Process?

Re Fremer doing somersaults - Basically the two videos he put up on Tracking Angle channel on Youtube. 'I won't say any more about it...' then goes on about it. I think but would have to review again, the video he did with Michael from 45rom Audiophile. Re his claims about being able to hear...

Do Mobile Fidelity Vinyl Re-issues Have a Digital Step in the Process?

Fremer has long time shot his mouth off about all analogue and his ability to discern the merest whiff of digital in the production of vinyl. He’s praised some MoFi releases (and in fairness criticised some others with the tragically ill thought out smiley EQ) which it’s now apparent have the...

Do Mobile Fidelity Vinyl Re-issues Have a Digital Step in the Process?

There’s a number of types of upset going on here which are often mixed up together - 1. Dishonesty - ‘I was misled into paying a premium for a product that isn’t AAA’ 2. Financial miff - ‘I bought these based on demand exceeding limited supply to flip now or invest and sell later, this debacle...

Do Mobile Fidelity Vinyl Re-issues Have a Digital Step in the Process?

I think that the days of master tapes being allowed out of the label's premises let alone shipped all over the world are very much numbered. Whether people like it or not I can see DSD transfers increasingly becoming the standard for producing reissues, that is if that hasn't already happened...

Do Mobile Fidelity Vinyl Re-issues Have a Digital Step in the Process?

I’m pretty sure MoFi could easily suggest that sourced can also mean ‘derived from’. That’s the point at which lawyers will disappear into a black hole of legal speak as to the effect and meaning of ‘derived from’ when you put ‘directly’ immediately after it…
