All Lampi DACs are tube rectified and form what I recall, only some of the first generation Atlantics were ever solid state rectified.
So, the only way to determine how a Lampi DAC is to sound with a solid state rectifier in place would be through using something like this...
Indeed, the digital board is more or less the same with the exception of the added 4GBs of RAM in the Pulse.
But the Pulse power supply (which quoting the Innuos site includes an audio-grade toroidal transformer with epoxy-filled centre for dampening vibration, magnetic screening with coated...
It would be quite difficult to match the power supply in the Pulse with an external one, not only because it's an extremely good but also because it's designed specifically for it.
The Pulse also includes a great D to D converter inside, so its digital outputs cannot be matched by the mini.
First off, I would have to say there is no hard-and-fast rule that using pentodes as triodes would result in a univocally beneficial outcome.
It all quite depends on the circuit and application.
In the Atlantic, apart from specific design goals it also serves as a means to open a wider family of...
To amend my post, all files on my USB stick are now visible. Maybe I just didn't notice since you can scroll down while inside the files window. Stupid me...
SQ is also super with the new 2.6.1 iteration.
Cheers,
Ted
I was referring to the elements within the tube. A pentode has by design five elements but can be operated as a triode also using three elements (as on the Atlantic). In many tube amps this is quite common and a way to either lower wattage or impart a slightly different sound signature, usually...
While you can use the 6J5 tubes in the Atlantic (because it uses pentodes in triode mode - 6J5 is a triode- leaving two elements unused or one in the case of tetrodes like the KT family tubes), the Horizon needs all elements of the pentodes used, so it cannot operate as intended with 6J5's in place.
Playing files off a USB stick on the Pulsar is nothing more than a utility feature and certainly nothing to write home about SQwise.
Besides, only a handful of files can be read off the USB stick.
I have a 256GB USB stick with dozens of files and only the first few (ten or so) show up under...
That's my experience as well.
Ethernet cables (maybe unfortunately so...) still seem to matter to some degree, even after filtering and switches.
The whole subject as to why is far more complex than accepting they just make a difference and a clue may be found in how differences between...
I like the Sense app and use it exclusively.
But the ability to stream from UPnP/DLNA "sources" might have other benefits too.
What I find most intriguing is the ability to stream from cloud storage (Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive) directly to your machine.
You can do that through BubbleUPnP...
You need to have some NAS software installed in the PC for the Pulsar to see it as a network shared folder.
Under Windows, such software can be "Open Media Vault", "UnRAID" or "TrueNAS".
Yes, quoting field experts: I²S is more or less the native interface of DAC chips. The reason it can sound "better" is that it isn't modulated like SPIDF, thus keeping the clock and data signals discrete, which creates the potential for lower jitter figures. However, I²S is not a standard for...
The USB "input" on the Lampi is in reality a USB to I²S converter board.
Same with the Terminator and several other DACs and as it seems one of the weak links in USB SQ.
If you have second thoughts about swapping the older digital engine with the newer one, you could always try upgrading just...
What USB to I²S module is the Golden Gate using?
If you're using the older Amanero based one or the "plain Jane" JLSounds, you can try upgrading to the Lampizator "sandwich" master clocked JLSounds one.
Since the re-clocker in the Innuos only re-clocks the USB communication protocol part, the...
To reiterate, my mentioning of limitations caters to an issue endemic I believe to the LMS ecosystem and not just its related apps: there is a limit in the total number of Tidal titles one can have under LMS (I believe it's a bit over 1000 or something - please correct me if I'm wrong), which...
Hi,
A friend of mine is selling (at a very attractive price too...) his older (non SSD) Zen mini w/h the Innuos Linear power supply.
That's what I've been using.
In all instances everything went through the Phoenix NET.
I have tried connecting the Zen mini through its second (bridged) port...
I have experimented a bit between using the Pulsar in standalone and endpoint mode.
In the first case my NAS was connected to the Pulsar via a switch, in the second case I have used a Zen mini as a server, effectively that becoming my NAS.
I feel that, strictly within this scenario, endpoint...
The Mesa valves are in fact made by RFT (in the 80's). I have several sets (from various sources and labels, such as Siemens, Mesa, Rivera, RFT, etc.), acquired as stock for my guitar amps. Generally, my experience suggests they don't respond well to higher voltages (as found on some vintage...
I tend to believe the real reason must have been that the amperage requirements of the power supply would have shifted to a point where it wouldn't have been practical to maintain the benefits of the overall design.
Mind you, Innuos will be releasing other modules too and when that happens...
This is an interesting discussion, but one must bear in mind also that due to the two-tier nature of USB, much in USB sound quality depends as much on the DAC side implementation of USB as on the server/streamer side one, which would translate to certain systems needing as much of a USB "boost"...
At the moment, this functionality doesn't exist.
What you can do however is stream from a NAS to the Pulsar and even integrate these NAS files into your library (should you wish to).
You can of course also use the Zen as a NAS and add the Pulse or Pulsar as a streamer only device.
In essence...
