That is some beautiful work Sense. And the system itself is very clean and simple; it looks great in your room. Tim

Active crossover speakers/systems - what are current options?

I suppose beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I think that beolab 90 is much more attractive than a lot of high end-approved speakers. And for anyone who finds the JBL M2s interesting, those are pro audio speakers, and there's a whole world of them out there to explore if you can get past the...

Is the Measurement Forum the place for objectivists to be attacked by subjectivists?

I'm more than old enough to appreciate the importance of tribalism, and I'm sure there are many truths on both sides. But when fundamental, conflicting truths are apparent, something is probably false. Science seeks to weed out the false and find the truth. She seeks evidence and verification...

Is the Measurement Forum the place for objectivists to be attacked by subjectivists?

Small wonder you're confused; you've completely missed the point. First, it's not about depending on measurements, we all listen in the end, it's about respecting measurements and seeking an understanding of how they correlate to what we hear. More importantly, it's not about high end, it's...

    Audiophile Marketplace and Manufaceturer Nervosa

Balanced is theoretically better, though the advantage is moot unless you have long cable runs. High-end design choices that are theoretically superior but practically unnecessary are a hallmark of the high end. No need to single out ARC, or any other company. Is it a form of audiophile nervosa...

What is the correlation b/w measurements and good sound?

I don't try to judge sound quality by eye, but my subjective experience, for many years, has been the opposite of yours. More often than not, I prefer the sound of equipment that measures well over "thicker bass" and "warmer amplifiers." This goes all the way back to when I was 19 or 20 and...

Will power amps make an audible difference?

There are different leagues of everything - price, status, pleasing sound, accurate sound. And there are plenty of guys here who are in a completely different league from an Onkyo AV receiver on all counts. And I like Onkyo receivers just fine. Tim

What is the cause of PCM glare? Bad recording or Bad DAC? Anything banish it?

For many, I think "a bit bright" and "glare" are synonymous, whether they realize it or not. Tim

What is the cause of PCM glare? Bad recording or Bad DAC? Anything banish it?

And add nothing more? If so, there is no "PCM glare." This glare is from somewhere else. Tim

    Tweaking spend

You'll get a much deeper, more detailed vertical sound stage if you use filtered water. Actually, sparkling water is best, but then the discs need to be burned in again (just one play should do) to eliminate the fizz. Tim

Maybe they have some history to answer for, Keith. At this point, they're serving the market. It would appear that, these days, for every audiophile who believes in the science of audio, there are a few dozen who have little interest in it, and would much rather read subjective reviews. Tim

New forum created for subjectivist members

Yes, and the other side of that extreme, self-aggrandizing POV is "somebody has to rebut all that audiophool voodoo." When you find the tweaks and cables and turntables and brands, and the new "what we hear" forums filled with objectivists coming in to disrupt threads there, the objectivists...

What is the cause of PCM glare? Bad recording or Bad DAC? Anything banish it?

Vinyl rips are not digital, they are vinyl, with all it's strengths and weaknesses, archived digitally. That you, and so many others consider them "best" (and that so many more can't distinguish between them and actual vinyl) makes two points: 1) What you dislike about digital is not something...

Will power amps make an audible difference?

What Keith said. Jacob, this rabbit hole is deep, and the Alice in here definitely took the pill that makes her think she's larger than life. Your friends think your system will sound better with a separate amp. Test that theory in practice, in your system, in your room. And take most of what...

New forum created for subjectivist members

This thread is finally revealing the real rift, and it is between the owners. The rancor between you dwarfs any rivalry between individual members. Steve and Amir, it sounds like you need a couple of good divorce attorneys. Amir, make sure you let me know where your next forum is. Steve, enjoy...

New forum created for subjectivist members

Well if Amir has to choose between being an admin and having an opinion, I hope he chooses his opinion. It's one of the most valuable opinions left on this forum, and the work he does to substantiate it is much more valuable than hall monitor duties. I was an admin once, back in the old days...

New forum created for subjectivist members

Maybe the measurement sub forum should be changed to "for objectivists only" and this new one "for subjectivists only." Neutral enough? What feels wrong about it? It won't work. I can absolutely promise you I won't go to the subjectivists forum and subject them (sorry) to specs and measurements...

New forum created for subjectivist members

Good lord, this is becoming tiring. This whole site is a subjectivists' forum. The measurements-based sub was an attempt at allowing people who respect data to have a place to view and discuss that data without offending the subjectivists and their spokesmen. It didn't work, because the...
