Hi Strapper,
Great pictures. Other than the new cabinet material, what are the differences compared to the original saga? Avalon site is not very clear on that.
Enjoy your new speaker.
I can confirm this . The Soulution 725 plays extremely well with my ARC 750. It has perhaps less bloom than an ARC Ref 10 which I also tried, but it has better definition and bass.
I also like the stack (725/711) . In my view it has a very full and "saturated" sound which I find very good.
Hi Shakti,
Did you try to pair the Soulution 725 with the stereo power amp, 710 or 711?
Amazing system and I find extraordinary that speakers launched more than 20 years ago are still competitive. I suspect that may be true for many other models. Congratulations!
Hi Shakti,
Did you compare the CHP P1 with the Soulution 720 with phono input you also have?
Many thanks and congratulations on your system, in particular for showing that an old model, like the Avalon Osiris, can still be competitive.
S.
Shakti,
Have you heard the Avalon Saga? It sounds a bit different from the Isis. I never heard the Osiris, which was discontinued a few years ago, but I agree with your view that some of the older designs (for Avalon and others) remain very interesting and can sound fantastic with current...
It seems you have been unlucky with the Soulution amps. I have had the 725/711 for many years without any issues and Cyril Hammer was always very friendly and professional when we spoke.
I agree with your comment about what seems to be the effects of the very low distortion o the palpable...
Even is this comparison was not fair, pricewise, Avalon makes great speakers, usually with fantastic driver integration and the ability to disappear from the soundstage. On the newer PM series I am only familiar with the PM 1, which is a good speaker. Keep us posted about the PM 2.
Hi Robert
In my view Hi Fi Critic is a good independent mag (no advertisement) and they deserve to be supported.
Concerning the review of Saga, could I pm you?
Thank you
I am curious about the new carbon tweeter. I like the silk tweeter used in the previous generation and it is interesting to see Wilson changing to a different material. As far as I am aware the only other speaker using a carbon based tweeter is Avalon. The Saga uses soomething described as a...
The heigth of the soundstage, as played by the Avalon Isis, sounds correct. The tweeters seems a bit high but the upper part of the speaker seems slightly turned down and that works very well.
Shakti has the Avalon Osiris, which have a different layout.
Any well conceived speaker allows to hear the differences between alternative sources and amplification. But the idea that speakers can be entirley neutral and transparent and act as a window revealing whatever drives them is not matched by my experience. Some are more transparent than ohers...
Shakti,
I fully agree with you. I have heard Magico of all the different series (with the exception of the original M series). I respect and admire their commitment to new technologies (wood, aluminium, carbon, mix) but the outcome fails to impress me and it changes with each generation in a way...
Hi Shakti
Although I have used Avalon speakers for several years, i have neer listened to the Osiris. I had some experience with the Sentinel, ,which I found a very good speaker but really difficult to use even in a big room.
The newer generation of Avalons, in particular the Saga, are easier...
Let me reopen this old thread to share my experience on listening to the Avalon Saga.
It is an extraordinary speaker, probably the best I heard. Some of my listening notes:
The bass does not go much lower than the Isis (this may be the result of the heavy accoustic treatment of the room) , but...
Robert
"destination speaker" is an apt description. It is difficult to see what could decisively better the Isis, although there are others at the same level. But Isis has an immediacy and capacity to disappear that I find almost unique.
Congratulations on you system, I am sure it sounds...
Hi Trcnet
Many thanks for your kind words. It is an exceptional speaker and I tried hard to have them in good company.
I have no experience with BAT amps, but there is a Isis user in Audiogon (I think) that uses a Lamm SE amp (32 watts, I believe), much less powerful than the Rex and he...
Hi Trcnet,
I have had a similar evolution: started with Eidolon, then Eidolon Diamond. I then changed the system to a big room and the ED could not move enough air to give me the feeling of involvement I was used to. Make no mistake, they are wonderful speakers and it is strange they are a bit...
Nombre,
Thank you for this report. It is good to know that Tesseract is, at last, a commercial product, since Avalon was low key about the previous outings of the speaker (Hanoi and Taiwan, I believe).
In an Italian site there is a reference to the fact that the amplifier used in the...
They are different beasts. Avalon will be more coeherent and the soundstage is to my taste better. Magico S 5 is certainly more dynamic and with more bass. Certainly more spectacular but perhaps less involving. But that is very much a question of preference.
Dear Roysen,
It is good to know that you are back in the forum.
I will be following the answers to your querie with interest. I have never made a direct comparison betwen Dartzeel and Soulution, but I own the latter (710/720/ and heard the Darts on some occasions, although not in familiair...
Nirodha
Good point. Apparently any information on the new Tesseract disappeared from Avalon's website. This is quite strange, after all the hype and the technical paper they have posted. They had a picture of the speaker in what appears to be their listening room, so it was more than a...
Opus,
Rather difficult to reconcile with something I have not experienced. The Soulution has certainly more weight and presence than dTz 108 I heard. But, as said in the other reply to your post, we are talking about different systems.
Opus,
One thing I can guarantee about Soulution: bass is certainly not softened. It is up there with I heard from old Krell amps. Whether or not what I hear is compatible with what you see in the FFT plots is a different matter.
Hi
I have a 710/720 pre-power and it is extremely good. They are very precise, transparent and controlled, and sound much more powerful than their nominal 125 watts. The way they reveal the differences between the records is unique. The best, as Valin claimed a few years ago? I do not pretend...
Thank, Robert.
I found pictures about your system (I think) on Audiogon. Congratulations, it must be wonderful. I am puzzled as to where you place the Isis. They seem to be on a corner leading two rooms, right? If you prefer I could mail you directly to clarify this.
The fact that you...
