The point of diminishing returns for speakers is...?

Hi Lee, Thanks for your input. I would counter argue that there is a point of diminishing returns. You, IMO, failed to prove your point because while the Magico 9 speakers may not be representations of this, I find it highly unlikely that there isn't a point of diminishing returns in speakers...

Are B&W and Focal "low end " around here ?

I just purchased Performa3 F208's. They were veiled sounding. I left the bass crossover alone, but bypassed the tweeter cap with a Duelund JDM cap, and the 2 midrange caps with VHAudio's ODAM caps. I probably went overboard, but I also bypassed the Electrolytic capacitors. I didn't diagram the...

    BEST300B.COM Tube Buying Experience?

When Lukasz finally decided to cancel my order for the BEST300B DAC I had already purchased over $1,500 worth of tubes for it. After telling me that this week they would be making BEST300B DACs, then without a word, they didn't. I guess his dog was eating the parts or some other lame excuse. I...

Do Tubes Homogenize the Sound of Our Music?

I believe that it depends upon the tube. A tube, generally speaking, imparts no more or less coloration than any other device is capable of doing, though IME, tubes and capacitors tend to be the greatest offenders. OTOH, good tubes and uncluttered tube circuits are capable of amazing...

Must have modification for Lampizator Amber 3 DAC

Jupiter, sorry. Proofreading is not my strong suit.

Must have modification for Lampizator Amber 3 DAC

The Amber 3 has virtually everything I wanted in a DAC, except for separation. Instruments are not in focus. Additionally, though I didn't realize it until I modified it, it's a bit slow. While it uses very nice copper and wax Jupiter caps, I decided to bypass them with VHAudio's .1uf ODAM...

    Lampizator Best300B Dac?

They still have them up, but it was designed for Lukasz son, and I think that may have been part of the run a round. Unless you have found a used one, you should ask. Don't assume it being advertised means it's still available. You should try to nail down a definite delivery date, if they...

Well, it takes all kinds. Like would be pretty dull if we were too much alike.

In search of a DAC which sounds excellent.

I love it when a system comes together for people. I used to be a detail snob. Anyone with Vandersteen 2CEs or the 3s sold when the 2CEs came out killed me. Their speakers sounded like mine with towels or something. SMH, who am I to tell others what to like? Well, regardless, I am glad that your...

In search of a DAC which sounds excellent.

Yeah, I am done playing Charlie Brown to Lukasz's Lucy. I live strictly in the used market. The only new DAC in my price range that really interested me was the BEST300B, and while last I knew they still have it advertised, it sounded like he's not going to be making any more, but I have a...

In search of a DAC which sounds excellent.

No, I installed the Unison, not so much. I'm trying to improve upon the Yggdrasil, but I am not completely convinced that I can. I may get better this or that, but worse that and the other. Only using the USB makes the Yggdrasil vulnerable, IME. Reviewers said it bettered far more expensive...

You don't have to love a particular artist as a prerequisite for purchasing their painting(s). Some of us think in logical terms rather than emotional terms.

I don't think that you can better Don Sachs preamp for under 20K, from all reports the ML 27.5 is still a rock star, the speakers have some weaknesses, but their sensitivity renders them amazingly transparent. They are not the equal of my old Quad ELS57s in the beautiful mids, but they are not...

Oooh, that sounds nice, though honestly those chips are packed full of transistors, but so are the Lampizator Soekris chip(s) in the Lampizator. It's difficult to completely escape semiconductors... The Monarchy sounds pretty interesting, but you prefer the Ayon even more! After I tossed in...

In search of a DAC which sounds excellent.

I couldn't find the BEST300B that wanted, and the Baltics are so high used that you may as well buy new, so I bought a DAC 3. The seller used it for headphones, has the Horizon I believe in his main system. Said it used it in his main system and was surprised how close they were in sound. I know...

In search of a DAC which sounds excellent.

As much as I didn't want to, I purchased a used Lampizator. That's right, laugh away. I don't like the architect, but it's difficult to argue with his results from all reports.

Nice DAC, it's a bit steep unfortunately. I found something on the used market. I probably should have been more patient. We'll see.

Thanks, I'm not so sure about this. I have a Spring 3 KTE, and my OG Yggdrasil is a shade better. They say that the May is a shade better than the Yggdrasil. Have you compared the May to something like the Baltic 3 or better?

What's better than a Duelund cap?

Better? How about different? I am really happy with VH AUDIO's ODAM capacitors. There is nothing wrong, as long as your bypass caps are within the tolerance of the existing cap, of using multiple bypasses, but why limit yourself to one flavor? Now if a particular cap causes smearing, you can...

In search of a DAC which sounds excellent.

I after several promises that he would honor the purchase, several will be done by dates, followed by an attempted bait and switch, Lukasz, without telling me personally, has through PayPal, refunded my money. Over a thousand dollars in tubes purchased which are now of no use to me, and an...

    Lampizator Best300B Dac?

It's a love hate relationship for me. I love the result, but tubes ideally should be mass produced, and sold for about $10 each. To make that happen, we need to get busy and convert everyone to tubes so that production lines don't have to shut down and re-tool all the time! Lol

    Lampizator Best300B Dac?

Because of the issues, or the tubes? I'd think anyone who likes to repeatedly spend money on something considers it an issue. I don't like the fact that I have to change the oil in my vehicle, but it's a necessary evil. As for Lampizator, I paid for it, I suppose that I am evil for expecting...

    Lampizator Best300B Dac?

That may be, but a little honesty goes a long way. He was offering me "refurbished", aka trade ins which originally sold for twice as much I am told, but the Big7 has 2 more tubes, and I don't believe that they take the same tubes. I forget the other DAC, but it was a similar story. I am not...
