Your suggestions on a high end dac/streamer.

I love the Bartok Apex! I have to have one. Berkely just upgraded my Alpha USB to series 2.

AppleTV X - I am playing with something new

Power supplies are not included. I chose linear. The Vanity Pro does not convert Dolby Atmos or DTS to PCM. It has no DTS or DD decoder. It accepts LPCM from the Apple or other devices. Audio jitter is 11 picoseconds for measurements I saw. It does pass bitstream as of the latest 5.2 firmware...

AppleTV X - I am playing with something new

I have the VanityPro. It's remarkable the improvement it makes to the audio quality of the HDMI audio. It's not that Audiopraise "broke new ground" with signal quality. What they did is put HDMI on equal footing with AES/EBU which is my first experience with an HDMI originated signal being...

    Counterfeit Audioquest cables?

Audioquest makes some really great sounding cables. I gave up on buying them used however. There were too many fakes on the market. The last pair I purchased on Ebay were determined to be fakes. I returned them to a protesting seller that had no idea that they were fakes.

big new Roon happening next Tuesday Sept 20th.

I use music to relax. I can't exactly relax while driving so I'm not that excited by Roon 2.0.

    Accuphase and Krell

I have a Krell Duo 300XD and the Chorus 5200XD. I really like the sound. The dynamics are the best of any amp I've owned especially micro-dynamics. I have had plenty of amps that can deliver low bass but none so "snappy" with other frequencies.

Why Do Different USB Cables Sound Different

I use a Berkeley Alpha USB as well and have tried about 6 USB cables. I agree the ones with the separate 5v wires were CLEARLY superior to the others.

    PS audio BHK Preamp

Wow! I'll have to check this preamp out. How is your multi-channel rig these days?

    Changing cable connectors

Usually the connectors even on high-end cables can be upgraded. When I have sold cables with upgraded connectors, it did not lead to a drop in the price but I did not recover the price of the connector. Basically the connectors added no value but did not diminish the price. I hear a bigger...

Classe CA M600 vs Omega Mono

I think the main thing you would notice is that with these last monoblocks, Classe seems to have moved away from the somewhat rolled off and warm sound . If you are using some sort of EQ or room correction, that might not matter so much. Classe's older sound was warmer as well. I like the new...

    Audiophile Finance

Sure. All of my expensive cables were sold a long time ago and invested the money in better gear. I believe everyone would realize better sound by selling the expensive cables and using the money for room treatments or better gear or both.

    JRiver MC Version 18

" The total amount of data from this conversion grows by 8x, so the process is effectively lossless / perfect." Jriver is circumventing the argument of DSD to PCM conversion losing something in the conversion.

Theta Gen VIII series II vs series I

I don't like the PS Audio Perfectwave dac version one. One friend switched from it to the Gen 8 Series 3. A second friend who owns the Perfectwave MKII is currently borrowing my Gen VIII series 3. He is going to sell the PS Audio dac. The difference in dynamcis between the two dacs is very...

Oppo SPDIF multi-ch digital output board?

Spinning any disc if there is a reasonable alternative is far more of a hassle. The only difference is that there is one coax and one HDMI cable. It's a vastly simpler and more flexible solution than trying to sync multiple components with rs232. I can't imagine going back to spinning CDs and SACDs

Oppo SPDIF multi-ch digital output board?

I am not that knowledgeable about servers. However to the best of my understanding, you have to chose one sound card or the other for output. That makes it impossible to output high-rez digital concurrently with HDMI because the Lynx card does not have HDMI. I plan to send digital out from the...

Oppo SPDIF multi-ch digital output board?

I have the server covered for multichannel SACD with both methods covered. NO way I'm spinning disc if I don't have to do so. Contacted the company, and if I don't need DSD, already have good jitter reduction, and am using for PCM, I was advised that the Vanity 93 lite would be all I need. It...

Oppo SPDIF multi-ch digital output board?

Audiopraise also sells a Vanity 93 Lite board which cost 225.00 and does what the JVB board designed by Shawn Fogg does. You save on the installation because the Vanity board is DIY. The Lite board does not have all of the options of the regular board. In my case, I would not need the DSD...

Sonus Faber to build speakers in China

I like the woman too. Flew a beautiful young lady, DJ for Shanghai radio station, over in 2000 to stay with me for 10 days. We had a spectacular time. I avoid made in China for political reasons. No problem with buying goods from other countries. When the young woman, arrived from China, she...

    WAV vs FLAC revisited

As Jriver does DSD file decoding,is there a similar issue to the flac issue for audio quality? What I am asking specificially is if there is a benefit to decoding DSD to PCM, in advance for playback using Jriver even though Jriver can do the conversion to PCM and playback?

    WAV vs FLAC revisited

Ahhhh! Thanks. I do use JRiver and JPlay. My friend system has quite a bit of resolution but he is not using JRiver. I will have to test in my own system, 20k speakers, etc.yadayada. No, not a casual listener. I think I will get him to try JRiver and see what happens. Good advice.

    WAV vs FLAC revisited

I read there was no difference and ripped all of my disc to flac. I never bothered to test. Yesterday, a friend played several different files of the same CD, one wav the other flac. To my surprise, I could hear the difference for most of the recordings. On one, I could not for whatever reason...

Just Saw the Queen of Rock and Roll

I was watching a very good program where other artist rated who they considered to be the top 100 of all time. Some of the old clips of Little Richard were good. The clips made me think that maybe I need to purchase the SACD of Little Richard.

Audiophile Music Servers and a perspective from one publication.

I agree. Some of the cases that I have seen make it possible to have a very nice looking computer in your rack. After investigation, this for the last couple of months, I see no reason not to just use a computer.

Getting a repair at Theta has been difficult, BUT

This thread crossed my mind recently. Once the rush of upgrades starts, I am curious to see who they will keep up with repairs.
