I have some transcription records. They were used to bring information and music to the US army people. Some Jazz and evergreens. You may use a normal cartridge to hear the content.

I know David´s favor for these SME arms. Some of the older ones use excellent old copper litzes, the later ones not. Anyhow - David´s system is a natural sound system, very nice btw.
Today, if you are really having access to a modern well equipped and lined up system you know how good you may...
It depends which kind of copper and silver you are using. The real old copper was/is excellent due to the production standard of those times (see Western Electric or SME). Today if you are using a modern wiring a fine silver litz offers many chances.
Dave Slagle,
regarding Mono you may see the many issued Mono & Stereo records today.
if you are in Mono you will experience a very different Audio pleasure

Ha ha J.R., you are playing down a little the impacts of all these factors. They are definitely here (!).
In my eyes it is somehow funny that we have listened to music in the past 60 years quite well only to hear now that we forgot to control and correct the Zenith.
Anyway I wish you the best...
Dear J.R.
you need to take into account the breakdown torque and the statical pressure on the groove edge.
support pressure is a dynamical pressure.

dear J.R.
i am pretty sure that this is correct:
By turning the needle to the right or the left side (who wants to do this???) you are changing the side forces and by that a relocation of the breakdown porch. You are changing the Antiskating and the pressure onto the grove forces.
your...
Dear J.R.
I do understand you approach and it is very thankful that you are giving hints and advising us users regarding the Zenith.
In case you are confronted with a Zenith error everything is too late .
There is only one chance do return your cart to the seller (cartridge builder) and ask...
Hello J.R.,
the test tone was done at correct amplitude. The test LP is cut for 33 on one side and for 45 at the other side. The PDA works pretty well. Nevertheless you may correct a bad Azimut by ear too. It may need some experience but it is possible. In case you need clarity the PDA is a...
my understanding is that a good headshell should be a firm and stable construction. The connectivity is another topic to be looked at. There are some units with different options which leads to changing height and some flexibility on precise SRA alignment like the Arche does. In case you like...
Dear David,
i have the SME headshell you are happy with. I used it with my 3012 first edition steel arm. I guess it is the best SME arm ever built being useable for X (EMT) and SME connections. I exchanged the SME headshell with the latest Arche L headshell. When you hear the difference...
David,
everything here was trimmed down to low weight. This SME headshell is extremely packed with resonance issues. It is not stiff and the quality regarding energy-transfer-speed is pretty lousy. It was developed for the MM-carts with low weight and high compliance.
I assume you are not...
Hi Banpuku,
don ´t mind, you do not need professionell help if you focus on the mayor issues:
1. use the golden ratio (very important)
2. dampen you walls by LPs or CDs or books - uneven surfaces
3. use ceiling installations as I did in my listening room
4. use the right distance from your...
I do love the installation, the precise work, also the tonearms. But please do me a favor. Those SME headshells need a better substitution for really good sound!
