Hi Gleeds,
I unfortunately did not really determine how beamy the Popori are. They are flat, so I do not think they would be much different than the Innersounds in that regard. I could be wrong. One other thing I wonder is how long the panels will last? I know the Martin Logans, and Soundlabs...
Yes I listened to these. They were quite good.
I own Innersound Kaya electrostats so I was curious how they compared. They play pretty low for a full range panel design. They are supposed to be much more efficient than my speakers. I think they were playing them with 80 wpc tube amps, if I...
I was also impressed with the sound in the Dutch & Dutch room. Sure is an easy way to get excellent sound all in one package.
Another speaker that I was very impressed with was the Cabasse Rialto. I walked in this room and almost just walked right back out. I saw some small bookshelf speakers...
I will be there. Really nice having a show in the Pacific Northwest now. It's been quite a few years since I have attended an audio show. Look forward to seeing everyone there.
Interesting. Thanks for your observations. The DV2 must be a nice improvement over the DA-2 version 1 I auditioned in my system, before I got the May. At the time I had the Holo Audio Spring 2, and though the DA-2 v1 was nice, I did not feel the it was worth the investment at the time.
I find...
After longer review, I much prefer I2S, over USB out of the Wavedream Net. Seems to be more dynamic, more open, and natural sounding. Usb does seem to be slightly quieter, but that is likely because the top end sounds lower in level. Depending on the balance of ones system, that may be a good...
Thanks, I revisited it again today. I got usb to work this time. I found that if both I2S cable, and USB cable were connected at the same time, hqplayer would not see the driver for usb. After removing the I2S cable, Hqplayer was able to see the right usb driver.
Usb out of the Wavedream does...
That is interesting. Your hdmi and/or usb cable of choice may make a difference. We both have different systems, and ears so our conclusions can, and will differ. This is why it is most important to test things for oneself in your own system ultimately.
There is very little instruction on their...
PS. I only prefer I2S when the Wavedream Net is used as a Hqplayer NAA endpoint and not as a Roon core. I use a SonicTranporter I-9 from Small Green Computer as a Roon core that also has Hqplayer installed.
I have not tried any other I2S output device on the May so I have no idea if other I2S...
Hi Tvad, I was using ALT3 for a little while before I realized the channels were swapped. Now using ALT2
My guess is most people use USB because it is most convenient. The USB implementation on the May is very good. I happen to like I2S through the Wavedream net more. What hdmi cable are you...
I think in order to use the Wavedream Net as an endpoint, you have to set it to Hqplayer Naa. This means you would have to have Hqplayer on your Roon core machine. This way you are still using the Roon interface, but outputting the signal through Hqplayer. This is how I do it on mine, feeding...
No, but would like to hear your impressions if you decide to buy one. Big fan of Shunyata Everest, and power cables. Have not tried their other cables yet.
Love to hear about the Taiko Extreme on a May too.
If the TV you have the Nvidia Shield on has an optical output, try connecting it to the May instead of the Nvidia. My TV is an LG and it holds the sample rate at 48khz no matter the original signal. Your TV will pass the Nvidia hdmi sound out of its optical out. Works for me here. Worth a shot.
For those May owners that use Hqplayer, and play DSD files, there is a new setting that makes DSD sound awesome. At least in my system. Under DSD sources click the DSD direct box, and then select Xfi under DSD-DSD conversion. I am using FIR as the integrator.
Curious if others with the May DAC...
Out of curiosity. Did Halcro get back in business, or have they been in business this whole time? I had assumed they had gone out of business, because I have not heard anything about them in some time. Also are these new amps, of a new technology, or same as before?
I remember when they first...
Hi folks,
Tonite I decided to do some comparisons of the sound, of the signal grounds connected to the Everest, and disconnected from the Everest. I did not unplug the signal grounds from the equipment, just the spade going to the Everest ground post. So the signal grounds were all still...
I think this only really works for Cableman on the recordings that he was involved with personally. Does not seem logical to me that it would translate to recordings he has no involvement in.
Recording levels and dynamic range of the recordings that I have vary way to much for this to be viably...
Thanks. Yeah, there was a slight improvement. I have yet to go back and disconnect it to hear the difference. That may be more telling.
Could put some sleeving on it to make it look a little better.
I am wondering if lower gauge wire (larger diameter) would be an improvement? It would be quite...
After seeing this thread, and your post, I decided to make my own signal ground cable. I used some 16 gauge magnet wire I had around. Instead of making five separate wires, I combined them all into one. One spade on the Everest side, then I twisted it for about 4 feet. The last 3 ft is a single...
Also I just switched it back to output 1 on the Rockna and the dsd works just like output 2. Could be my imagination, but I think output one sounds a little more resolving.
After reading the owners manual of the May to figure out how to change pinout config, I realized I never played with the...
I gave it a try. Still have to check dop in Hqplayer, but now the Rockna can now output quad dsd to the May. Before it would not go above 1x dsd. So that is a bonus.
