In the dubious honor of Bob "2" Calale's passing, I'd like to run an informal survey regarding what's IMNSHO the greatest Devo album made. Where do you stand?
I was always under the impression that WBF didn't want to advertise itself. Frankly, I thought it was a good policy, as the discussions would undoubtedly be diluted by the proliferation of individuals who didn't "work" on the same level as the rest of the forum. I'm on (I think) every audiophile...
It started with Beyer DT990pros. I bought them, got a Little Dot III headphone amp, which I sold not that long thereafter, and found myself really enjoying the headphone experience as a whole. It lent another, new perspective to essentially all recordings.
Now I own 9 cans:
Beyer DT990pro...
I received the new Stereophile yesterday and couldn't help noting that Selected Signs is the recoding of the month. Best selection in months! I preorded mine and got it on the release date; apparently, JA had a preview copy. Killer tracks and sound. Ya wanna talk low-bass? NIN, take a lesson...
I love tube amps. Love the breath of existence fueling the music, love the spacial qualities, love the glow ...just hate owning (and paying for) something big enough to power my system along with all the drawbacks that come with it. This still doesn't mean that I won't eventually get something...
"Hesitation Marks was mastered in two different ways - the standard, “loud” mastering (which is what you’ll find on the CD, on iTunes, and everywhere else), and also an alternate “audiophile” mastering, which we’re offering as a free download option for anyone who purchases the album through...
Now that I own an Oppo 105, a whole world of silver/gold disk is open for consideration. I've been having a blast experimenting with different digital formats, which brings me to audio BD. I picked up Steven Wilson's ...Raven... and Neil Young's Americana (500 minute Rammstein 2BD is on its...
Not sure if this belongs here or in general music discussion. As it's a true bargain, I posted it here:
$60 buys you two titles per month and access to B&Ws HD download library for a full year. $5 a month, folks. I'm astounded by the value. Needless to say, I joined and I'm now playing 12...
This is not a review. Truth be told, I'm not capable of writing a piece congruent with the standards of the forum, so please take the below as some quick impressions of the gear I've had in my system over the last few weeks:
Schiit Modi - $100 direct, very handsome cosmetics and very good...

As can be expected with a 20% discount, not everything is a bargain, but there are quite a few to be had.
The deck is silver, a few minor scratches on the case, works flawlessly. Just picked up another Tascam and would really like for someone to get some use out of the machine, instead of it sitting in my equipment closet. It's been dead-reliable for me. $100+ship.
I regularly buy music very inexpensively. Sometimes these deals only last a day or two, sometimes only a few hours. Perhaps a music bargains board, where everyone can share their finds, can benefit the entire community.
Edit: For example -...
It's a $100 Shiit Modi. I plan to use it with my desktop, as the MAudio soundcard fried itself after ~12 years of flawless service. I also want to try it in my main system in conjunction with my laptop and Spotify. I'm not expecting much in a hi-fi application, but I do hope to get a taste of...
This will be offered as the full box seen above, a box with just the 5 (real) studio albums and another box with the 5 albums on vinyl. Woof!
Amazon.co.uk has preorder offers at significantly lower prices than the US. FWIW, I preordered the full box as well as the vinyl box for my 50th...
My wife said to me last night, "Do you really need a hundred CDs and a couple of hundred LPs (all new-ish purchases) sitting out?" She means not in the shelves. I thought about it for a few minutes and answered, "Yes!" That's how I know what's new. Am I the only one?
Some may recall a piece on S'phile's site (it may have appeared in the book, as well) by SM discussing cassettivity.com:
http://www.stereophile.com/content/cassettivity
I'm s sucker for new, grass roots-type recordings so I ordered about a dozen new cassettes, bought a minty mint -...
My friend and I got to our favorite store right about the time they opened. Folks were already walking out with their purchases, carrying out a single LP, or so it seemed. Just one. That's when we knew it was going to be a good day. I scored pretty much everything I wanted, save for the Sigur...
Let me define what I mean: I'm talking about recordings/performers that you love dearly, and I mean LOVE, but that don't fit your usual listening repertoire, that don't necessarily mesh with your world-view, that wouldn't normally be associated with your normal, everyday persona. It has to be...
My 12 years of joyful bliss with a pair of Swan M200 have come to an end. Their internal amp in kaput. Audioengine speakers get great reviews, and I see some interesting-looking studio monitors on the music store sites. I want to spend as little as possible, within reason. Any recommendations?
I tried searching for a similar thread to no avail, so please excuse this if such a discussion already exists.
What fluid(s) and brushes are you using, and what is the best ways you found to work the products?
