Hi All,
I have been meaning to place the best of my Tidal Daily favourites playlist (which I have made public) as long as you have the link or do a search here.
As I drive to work and spend probably close to a couple of hours each day, I listen to the Tidal App in my car (EV) to get the best...
When hearing the AES output from the MU-1, I would disconnect the USB output to the DAC, just in case there is some clock signal from the USB overriding/interfering with the AES signal.
Do give it a couple of weeks without any disconnecting of the AES cable.
Hi pmorali,
Before the Grimm, I used a MacBook Pro (Roon and Audirvana software) into a Playback Designs USB-XIII interface box which then was connected to the DAC via it's proprietary P-links.
I held off buying any server, till I was confident that the streaming signal would sound as good as...
The FPGA card supports AES/EBU output to be connected to an input available on most available DAC's.
There are fewer DAC's with I2S inputs as compared to AES/EBU.
Whereas the I2S (RJ45) you point out too, is a proprietary connector mean for the LS1 which has both data and control signals...
Hello Marmota,
The Grimm uses and FPGA card that converts everything to 176khz or 192khz. It is the output from this card at these set outputs, that takes away all the digital noise and grunge we get from just native signal rates.
I have several DSD recordings from single, double and quad that...
Welcome to the forum as a new member Philippe.
The Grimm MU-1 is an outstanding piece for musical playback with all the fine details without drawing any attention to any particular characteristics of musical playback. In short, it does everything consistently extremely well.
I have been a...
Hi Mike,
What a fabulous journey it has been and a thrill to hear all your changes since we last visited your place in '15.
I just wished that Washington State was more around the corner, rather than the 8K miles it actually is away from Down Under.
But you never know, a visit one day...
Look forward to hearing back from the actual event.
Extremely excited about it all, Steve.
A bit too far to travel (from down under) for the launch, otherwise we would definitely have been there!
Have a great time.
@shakti, completely agree with your thinking. There is one already started earlier.
@matthias I am not as frequent a visitor to the forum, but happy to take this topic onto the grimm thread started way earlier. Thanks for your understanding.
David, I look forward to your feedback between the Grimm and the Antipodes.
The Grimm which I chose (last year in December '19), the K50 was not out then and an A/B with the previous Antipodes combo put the Grimm MU-1 far ahead. The MU-1 had the ability to take all red book and upsample it to...
Hi CK,
Apologies for the delayed response, as I haven't been back on the forum since I last wrote the post.
Yes they are polite and welcome visitors.
If you are genuinely looking and show interests for purchase they will entertain your requests.
The name of the building is ETLand (one word...
Having been around to Adelphi and Mongkok, I found Seoul right up there and may be the best in what they offered. There is one building which houses most of the used and new dealers. The vintage gear also was terrific.
I have the Raal Headphones with their matching amplifier and am quite impressed as they have a transparency that pure ribbons do. And this goes all the way into the bass frequency too.
They are still headphones and have that sound a wee bit forward of your face, but nowhere like what speakers...
Another award for Grimm.

After the Six Moons award nomination, Grimm have picked up another one.

I had a 6 hour continuous session with the Grimm today and it was not fatiguing at all listening to digital content for that long. The flow and detail are quite astounding.

Very interesting about the Aqua LinQ streamer, which too has an FPGA card, and avoids a USB output.
It has quite a few different proprietary outputs that probably match its own brand of DAC's, quite ideal.
The difference I find is that the Grimm FPGA card upsamples red book to 176.4Hz...
Fred, thanks for the link.
In regards to what I considered, it would have been quite a few brands like Melco, Lumin, Antipodes and the Taiko. The Grimm did something more with passing the signal through it's FPGA card. Most of all it negated the need for having to get into tweaking by using...
Hi Francisco,
Yes there are certainly more Players in the Netherlands and global field. It’s that Phillips experience amongst them all that probably gives them the edge.
The Grimm is quite new and comparisons to others would come down the line once it gets more opportunity to showcase itself...
6Moons review of Grimm MU-1 by M&H
I have waited a long time to get the right server. I think I have found one that serves the purpose especially for streaming Tidal and Qobuz.
Though this is not a cheap unit, it certainly needs to be compared in listening to the higher brands out there like...
Highly recommend the Grimm MU-1. It's new, and would be right up there. You won't need switches and clocks either.
Certainly has that closeness and flow of tape.
Great story and journey Steve, and some lovely anecdotes with photos too. Reminds me of the one we did some 4 years back or so. As you said, this hobby does make you some life long friends.
Best
Neville
I have had the pleasure of attending the AE show a few years back (2016).
What the team accomplishes in such a short set up time is astonishing from the playback I heard. The components are great and for those that can afford it kudos to them. Sure show conditions can be challenging and when...
