BOSE COMPANION 20 vs AUDIOENGINE 2+ - comparison

I'm reasonably certain the Bose Companion is not made in America. Are you sure you're on the right audio forum?

Audio - the hobby that keeps on giving

Good for you! Living in Central London with an "acoustically challenged" listening room, I envy you. I am postponing any upgrades or purchases until I have a less challenged space, but I continue to have fun by listening to music new to me.

    Singapore HiFi stores

I should add that two of the gentlemen who work at the Magico/Soulution store are very nice and very knowledgeable. If I lived in Singapore, I would have bought a pair of speakers from them.

    Singapore HiFi stores

My guess is that the Adelphi represents the highest concentration of audio stores in the world, with the possible exceptions of a couple of high-rises in Kowloon. I've been there five or six times on semi-regular trips to Singapore since early 2015. Prices in Singapore tend to be on the high...

    Happy Fourth of July

In addition to the reflections above, I would add that today is the only day of the year when the genteel, civilized audiophile can fire up Frederick Fennell's many patriotic wind band classics on Mercury Living Presence. Happy Fourth!

Kudos. This hobby has gotten out of control for many of us.

sacd drive mechanism.. still available in the future?

I would look for a suitable PS3 and rip to hard disk/SSD. I bought a PS3 in 2014 and have done this with my entire collection of 500+ SACDs without a hitch.

    Interesting Perspective on Our Hobby

I went to the Concertgebouw in late March. Also extraordinary, but I think the Musikverein is better. For one accustomed to the sound of conventional orchestras, it can be fun to hear the unique Viennese sound.

BACCH-SP: The future of high-end audio? Yes.

Many thanks! Very interesting. Not sure how I managed to miss this, except that I've been very busy at work.

BACCH-SP: The future of high-end audio? Yes.

Is information about the software solution here? The software discussed on that site appears to use generic, one-size-fits-all filters without head tracking. The head tracking and individualized filters of the BACCH-SP enhance the effect enormously. Does the software solution that you have...

    Interesting Perspective on Our Hobby

I'm sympathetic to some of Mr. Kessler's complaints, particularly about the ludicrous audio cable sub-industry. However, it's revealing that his essay does not mention the reason that I am in this hobby, which is the music.* Like HP and many others of us who have been in this hobby, I want the...

BACCH-SP: The future of high-end audio? Yes.

Do any members know about the differences between the 'Mk 1' BACCH-SP and subsequent iterations of the device? The reason I ask is that a 'Mk 1' BACCH-SP has appeared on Ebay at an attractively low price. Depending on my rather unpredictable work schedule, it may be worth a flight to...

    New Weiss DAC 501 / 502

From Weiss's website: The DAC501 / DAC502 are our new state of the art D/A Converters with an unprecedented level of sophistication and versatily. The DAC502 uses a larger frame but else sports the same features as the DAC501. Except for an an additional 4 pin headphone socket at the back of...

The Proper Use of the Apostrophe

revert In investment banks and corporate law firms, this misuse of revert - to mean to respond in due course - is ubiquitous. I was perplexed when I first saw it and checked the dictionary, thinking that the people around me, who were very smart and successful, couldn't be misusing the word...

    What system ?

A shiny and relatively fragile £649 glorified boombox, of which you would need several to provide background music in a restaurant and which, in any event, would be incapable in any quantity of playing music at party levels in a restaurant, is not an appropriate choice. Robust pro audio gear is...

Daniel Hertz "Master Class" Software from Mark Levinson

While in Amsterdam for a performance of the Concertgebouw Orchestra a few weeks ago, I happened to walk by the Daniel Hertz store, which is very close to the Concertgebouw. I did not go in. However, the Daniel Hertz integrated amplifier that I saw in the window looked like Dussun/Korsun products...

    What system ?

The Naim Mu-So Qb will not go loud enough to fill that room, probably not for background music and certainly not for parties. High-end audio products tend not to be ideal for commercial spaces, as the substandard sound (in high-end audio respects) of the $500,000+ "best in the world" system at...

Here are my reviews, which already appear in another thread: Review 1: I live in London and have been to Spiritland numerous times since it opened in September. I recommend going if you are in London. The food and drink are good, and unusually for London, the atmosphere of the place is...

New York Times: Listening Clubs Tantalize Audiophiles in London

This placement probably would not possible in the limited space at Spiritland. Perhaps some EQ--judiciously applied only to the two active woofer units--would help.

New York Times: Listening Clubs Tantalize Audiophiles in London

I went to Spiritland again, and tonight the featured event was a Rudy Van Gelder retrospective. There was a crowd tonight, perhaps because of the Times article. The ambient noise level was higher than on my previous trips to Spiritland, but I felt that I could still listen to the system. The...

    Genesis 8300 speakers- midrange

Are there remanufactured dome midranges for Genesis loudspeakers of this vintage? And would you want to replace one midrange without replacing both? I had a pair of early-gen Genesis speakers that popped a midrange. Lacking acceptable repair options in New York City, I had to sell them for...
