From what I've heard, CH Precision will stick with PCM 1704 chips to do the actual D/A conversion, and not relying on more fancy(?) discrete resistors or FPGA methods etc. This will surely spark more debates and ridicules, but ultimately, we will let the market decide if C10 will be a winner.
It's unfortunate that Exton SACDs do not get much exposure and coverage outside Japan (and Asia). The overall recordiing quality is usually very good to great.
My favorite Exton is probably Duo di Basso. A couple of Mahler symphonies were also quite good.
Hi thank you for your explanation, and Melco is essentially acting like a switch makes perfect sense. My dilemma is this - I do not stream music via internet at all; the WiFi router Melco is connected to (plus CH P1 phono) is NOT connected to the internet at all, so the router is more like a...
you are welcome!
Oh I just remembered one more thing. I never tried the top of the line Melco with internal SSD drive, but I did try an external SSD connected to Melco's "Expansion" USB, and SSD sounded nowhere near as good as the internal HDD. Can't explain why, but I asked another friend...
Hi ava1962. Sorry my comments below might be long but I went through similar situation as you are facing now.
I currently have C1.2 and Melco N1Z (5T HDD version). Never tried Innuos in my system so I can't comment on it.
Prior to my first Melco (N1A 4T HDD), I streamed music files via a QNAP...
Do cartridges output balance signals? I thought because there's no reference to ground so by definition that's not balanced?
However, all 3 inputs I use on my P1 are all RCA. Have not tried XLR at all. 2 of the phono cables are part of the Shroeder and Linn arms. The last arm (Graham...
Whenever there's a new firmware update I just do it. Without another player that has not been updated it's hard to compare A/B/A. If I didn't hear anything negative with firmware updates I am happy.
To me personally, vinyl and digital playbacks are equally valid, and with the current state of the art digital, it's just a different presentation. There are certain things that're easier to achieve through vinyl (or digital) playback, and if one's priorities lean towards one medium's...
Thanks for posting the link CK. I read it this morning and it certainly contained a lot of great photos on the process it took to practically made it into a new DAC. I spoke to my local CHP representative about the number of boards and the amount of work to complete the upgrade, and to me, the...
Personally I didn't care who reviewed C1.2 for Stereophile; if the review generated more interests (especially positive interests) for CH Precision it's a win for CHP and all current users.
I ordered the upgrade a week ago and I can't wait to send my unit in.
Hi Gunnar thank you for the message. I have the current N1ZH (with 5TB HDD) which replaced the first generation N1A. I haven't tried any switches because I thought there wouldn't be a need for it if I have a direct Ethernet connection to the DAC.
From your descriptions it is beneficial to...
Dear all, my question might sound dumb but I am going to ask anyway...
When I play files - Melco NAS to C1.1 via Ethernet, since one of the main reasons I went with Melco was their NAS have 2 Ethernet ports, one connects directly to the DAC (C1.1) and the other to a WiFi router for controling...

Brand new top of the line Dela/Melco NAS which added a 10MHz clock input. Will be great with the new OP21 but price is $$$$$ and I just got a new Melco N1ZH this year : (
Hi yes the new OP21A can switch between 50 and 75 Ohms. It’s just that the clock cables I bought from Cybershaft were 50 Ohm cables but CH only had 75 Ohm input/output. I do have a Tranparent 75 Ohm clock cable but it’s too short.
Ultimately I will end up with new 75 Ohm clock cables so I can...
Hi CK, thank you for all the suggestions. They were all sensible and made sense.
I just wanted to get things rolling due to my lack of experience with outboard clock and I know there are still lots of improvements that can be made.
Both CH units locked on to the 10 MHz signal right away, and my first listening was 2 hours after powering up. Better focus, image size a little smaller than before but more defined. Overall sound was a little more laid back, and better musicality.
After 24 hours. Things got better. Much...
New OP21A user report --
Happy Thanksgiving to everyone and it is also a good time to thank all the contributors to this thread that introduced Cybershaft to my radar. I’ve always wanted to try an external clock and I’ve never devoted so much time studying anything audio related during the past...
Just read this from CH website for C1.2 -
Volume Control
Switchable for mono (input L + input R) output.
It appears the C1.2 update addressed one complaint I had with C1/C1.1. Before C1.2 we were only able to either mono left channel or mono right channel, not summing two channels into...
According to CH -

Interesting... The short amout of time I listened to Graffiti Jazz I certainly didn't feel/hear HF roll-offs. FWIW the FAQ section on the website did say not to listen with graphs... but if that's how the music sounded I am assuming that's how the composer wanted it to sound.
Speakers (Wilson Alexandria 2.2)
Since the purchased package also contained headphone mixes (but in 24/96 resolution instead of 24/192 or DSD for speakers), I will also try them with HiFiMan HE1000 one of these days... 99% of my listenings are with speakers...
I did last night. Bought both albums.
I did a quick listen to Grafitti Jazz at normal volume (not insane volume). Details and sense of space were fantastic. Texture and speed were similar to other Chesky recordings. Bass notes were deep into the stage, and the whole soundstage was quite 3D...

This appears to be a brand new venture for David Chesky... Even though the current music offerings are limited, but one can get both hi-rez PCM and DSD at the same time. Should be worth exploring.
Thank you CK,
When connecting with CH T1, the setting based on the manual is SYN 75 Ohm. It's good to know HighZ would sound great as well, and I will certainly experiment with both settings.
I looked at the picture showing C1.1 and D1.5 and it appeared that the screens are showing both locked on to 10MHz clock. I would appreciate it if your friend can share what the settings were. Thanks so much!
