    Karajan's Bruckner 3, 5, 6, 8 are all superb.

    40+ watts SET

I love my Octave RE 320 tube push-pull amp with Super Black Box, which is an additional large capacitor bank (paired with Octave HP700 preamp). Gives you 130 W/ch into 4 Ohm, a much better option for the TAD speakers than a, for the speaker type, almost inevitably underpowered SET amp (for my...

Ask your spouse which video sounds more real or natural

I will never start to believe in system videos. No matter how much certain members keep harping on it. Maybe the repetition does work its magic on others, however.

    Natural Sound

As an aside: I cannot comment on these specific halls, and I also agree with you about substantial differences in sound between concert halls. Yet I would like to point out that the tonal balance, if there is more "body and flesh" to the sound or not, also very much can depend on where you sit...

Think so too. He plays the confident guy, but I don't buy it.

Yup, can't find it either. Indeed, why make it complicated and not just share?

Ask your spouse which video sounds more real or natural

Indeed, per the very topic of your thread. As for the remainder of your post, I judge an answer not to be worth my time. People can read my post and your reply, and come to their own conclusions.

Ask your spouse which video sounds more real or natural

Wow, you seem quite overly defensive here, Carlos. What do the hearing tastes of non-audiophile wives or friends --the opinions of whom you asked for -- have to do with an alleged preference for lack of treble extension as you describe some audiophile systems? Don't you think they get their...

Hi-Fi is NOT a subjective hobby.

Yeah, there is too much lazy and arrogant misunderstanding about "merit" and money.

Good one, thanks for putting it this way ;).

    American Sound, "The Absolute Nothing"

I would assume that customers for The Absolute Nothing are likely to buy into the philosophical approach to the high end that comes with it as well. This will limit ventures into pairing with other design approaches.

The American Sound Turntable- Beyond's Minimalist!

While DDK believes in stable and "dead" turntables, I don't think he believes in "dead" speaker cabinets, given that he favors vintage designs.

Hi-Fi is NOT a subjective hobby.

True. Funny thing is, a lot of people think that not admitting mistakes or errors and limitations of their opinions makes them look strong. It does the very opposite, it makes them look weak -- because it is weak. If you have self-confidence, then what does it hurt you to admit a mistake, or to...

The Greatest Rachmaninoff 3rd of all time?

It does sound curiously dim on the video, I agree. And blurry.

That seems to be the essence of many arguments on WBF, unfortunately.

    Axpona 24’ Mike Lavigne pics

Good point about poor streaming. The vendor at T.H.E. Show last year where I bought my speakers (PranaFidelity) used tape, vinyl and CD. All three sources sounded excellent. No streaming.

Aah, different power too, then. I guess a main, though not the only, reason for bad sound at shows is when the power delivery capacity in the venue is severely limited while most vendors use big power-sucking amps.

It must have to do with something other than Covid. I was at AXPONA 2017 and the overall sound was pretty bad, with only a few high quality standouts. Glad to hear people got their act together. Maybe the power delivery system has improved as well.

Does Analog EQ belong in State of the Art Systems?

Room treatment may not change that much in terms of frequency response in mids and highs, but it does remove lots of distortions and hardness from short-distance reflections. This may not show up that much in measurements, but it very much does show up at your ears. Especially when you usually...

How Important Is NOS In A Dac?

Yes, hearing the unit before purchase is mandatory. You need to make sure that it fits your system and your tastes. NOS per se isn't that important to my tastes. My DAC doesn't have it.

    Audio Critique

Yes, it's plainly wrong. Amir writes: "Some audiophiles think every audiophile has personal taste and audio judgment is relative not absolute. I think this is not true." Of course it's true. I have multiple proof of that in my personal experience. Heck, audiophiles sitting next to each other...

    Magico M7 2023

While CAT amplification sounds great on Magico M Project speakers, it cannot drive them to full dynamic liveliness. CH Precision can. I would expect the M7 to be at best marginally easier to drive. An impedance dip to 2.6 Ohm doesn't sound too appetizing for tube amplification. SETs...

    Magico M7 2023

The question is if the M7 is allegedly much easier to drive, then why are dealers using DAG if it's allegedly not needed? Lots of mixed signaling here if you ask me.
