Another congrats from to another Dawg fan here in Atlanta. Ran across this looking at BAT comments as I'm going balanced hence BAT. Should be a real pleasure for you as the equipment settles in and you experience those ah ha listening sessions.
Hi Marc,
Never tricked out the Trans Fi like you have and had some problems with the bearing. WIthout Vic around to solve a couple of things decided to make the switch. I hear some thing from idlers that are my cup of tea so next logical thing was Lenco. Pleased.
After my hiatus from what was then a decent system, kids, divorce and relative poverty, once again down the rabbit hole. Trans fi Salvation/Terminator arm ala Marc for about ten years. Switched to a JTN Nantais Reference 3 this past year and recently had a Kuzma 4point 14 setup by Brian Walsh...
So balanced amplifiers that are push pull have an advantage. Being that push pull amps have quite an advantage in producing power from a set of tubes, will balanced in this case augment the quality of the signal in respect to improving the notch distortion? What other advantages?
AR Turntable (high end?) with a Rabco arm. But was equiped with Win strain gauge startling improvement. Made my dog jump up and he had listened many hours to my Shure.
IMO Zu Def 4s are the most underappreciated component. Not widely exposed, many are far more well informed here but have my pair in storage, about to unbox them for another run.
I feel you, the Audiopax M100s in my system use 6 per channel. I have 12 tubes by 4 different manufacturers. Then considered the investment in my system overall and bit the bullet. Next best has been Sophia KT88. Psvane-good bass not as resolving. The step up in resoluton with the KR was worth...
Have run 6550/Kt88 in every amp forever. Have 10 or so brands, NOS/new issue you name it.
KR KT88s fill the bill. Don't want to be wordy here, don't need to. Best resolution and balance, very convincing.
Fortunately I'm pretty close to Jim’s home as well. Locating everything precisely, things were pretty close to start with, but refining those points paid dividends without a doubt.
His attention to detail regarding getting an even bass response as well as the correct setting of gain from the...
Hello Hugh,
Happy to see Dennis come out with the follow up to your project. Nothing like seeing a well thought endeavor come to fruition. Getting to hear it, however briefly, was certainly an eye/ear opener. Also, the visual experience only adds to the dramatic effect, enhancing the experience...
Hi CK,
Have you tried the filters on your outlets?
Presently I use two balanced power transformer units. All the dedicated lines are run through a wall unit from Equi=Tech. I also run my front end through a BPT 3.5 Sig Plus which is actually in line plugged into one of the dedicated lines, so...
Hugh,
Can't really say as to better or not.
I cut my wall and ran 10 gauge romex. Didn't know different.
Go to JPS Labs AC Power cables and scroll down, the wire is near the bottom.
I have very efficient speakers but no one told me that AC noise would be a problem. I too have a wall unit...
Hi Hugh,
Ever since my first foray into creating a listening room a few things have been brought to my attention. One being JPS wire for the runs from the panel to receptacles. Might want to check it out if you haven't selected your wire.
Pretty spendy though.
I will say Dennis' ideas are a cut...
Since you asked, Def4s with Audiopax Maggiore M100s, Zesto Leto Preamp and mainly analog front end. Like Marc I run a Trans-fi Salvation-Terminator. Airtight Supreme and Allnic H7000 Phono. I listen to music robustly, and like the dynamics, macro and micro. But I don't really care to get into...
Since Zu seem to have a prominent place in this thread, thought I might chime in. I've had Def IVs for about 5 years, recently paired them with Audiopax Maggiore M-100s and have to say I'm impressed. Nice smooth detail is the best way I can say it.
It's been a month since the install of the EquiTech wall unit. I came across a 5WQ for a good price and curiosity got the best of me. And I'm glad. Now my Balanced Power technologies 3.5 Sig Plus has balanced power feeding it into the front end, amps on the wall unit only. So if my info is...
Had a wall unit from EquiTech installed Friday. I decided to leave my BPT 3.5 Sig plus powering my front end in service, now plugged into one of the dedicated lines powered by the EquiTech unit, piggybacked if you will. The amps are and subwoofer amps are now supplied by the other dedicated...
I'm reviving this thread because I have purchased the Equitech 50 amp unit, it weighs a lot and I need installation. At a bit of a loss as to how to find a qualified electrician and the ins and outs of proper installation. Mike or anyone have any suggestions. Called Jim Smith and he suggested...
Upon reviewing the entire thread, an informative one if I do say so, it seems the KR Audio hybrids provide the closest thing to tube amplification combined with low end control. The slight edge that NAT seems to enjoy as to musical warmth could be significant depending on the speaker. As for...
It's great to have access to the industry experts' depth of knowledge available on this forum. Of course everyone's room is different. My floors are hardwood on 3/4" plywood on concrete. It seems, reading through all the posts in this thread, that truly the different factors result in different...
Hi Gary, and again thanks for the thread. Thought provoking with as much science as could be interjected without overwhelming the subject. Got it done and a couple of things have happened, both positive. The Sistrum Apprentice stands appear to have balanced the speakers out, to say that the...
Hello Spirit, I'm interested in the NAT 211s as well. Have a pair in Croatia being offered but the EU version. The change from 220-110 is a problem. I'm trying to find a solution but a little under informed . Anyone on here done that before?
Really nice cart. While I can only surmise, Ikeda put out some Fidelity Research carts in the 70s-early 80s. I picked up a FR MC202 a few months ago and can't force myself to listen to anything else as of yet. Looks like he uses a similar body, kinda wide and I guess sealed to prevent rubber...
Actually one of the music lovers in the Atlanta area guided me in this direction. He was pretty emphatic to the point of stating that if you don't buy the stands, don't buy the speakers. Now the speakers sound great, kind of a hybrid full range with a tweeter w/single order crossover and a pair...
