I heard the Sanders at 2 locations way back when. I had typical MTM cone speakers back then, not Apogees, so my memory is in comparison to those MTM's. Both Sanders were in NY apartments, one fairly small and somewhat nearfield and the other in a slightly larger room (remember ... NY...
One of the best "tweaks" I found was to get one of these for more accurate measurements on speaker placement. There are many models of these things and I would guess most would work just fine.
Bosch Laser Tape Measure
Room treatments are definitely # 2, using a live end - dead end method. I...
Anyone here a guitarist? Feel like putting your own spin on a tune?
I've issued a guitar challenge here: https://www.progressiveears.org/forum/showthread.php/26641-Guitar-Challenge?highlight=soundcloud
Feel free to participate and join in the fun.
Merry Christmas,

I want to thank everyone who gave this a listen and especially thank those who purchased it on Bandcamp. I hope you are enjoying listening to it as much as I enjoyed making it.

Hello everyone,
I’m happy to announce the release of my first album “2020 Suite”. As you can tell by the name it is a compilation of songs written about the events of this past year. I know, I know, the year isn’t over yet, but I anticipate there will be a plethora of albums with a similar...
Well, horns will give you a more live experience, with dynamics you can;t get elsewhere, but you might have to revamp your whole system for them, like going to low powered tube amps.
Other panels, especially ribbon speakers like Apogee will give you similar sound to what you have now. Not sure...
Yeah, it was a pretty original story and not the usual Hollywood re-write. We thought it had a definite European flavor to it.
However, that dance scene at the end was pretty silly in a Wa-Wa Land kind of way (pun intended).
Those of you (us) who have original Apogees are hanging on by a thread. We pamper them to keep them alive and avoid the death knoll of that dreaded buzz, knowing full well that it is inevitable and will begin visiting us soon.
So that means, if you have an Apogee you probably have the updated...
there are a ton of theories on how to set up acoustic treatments, from live end - dead end, to dead room, to deflect everything, etc. You just have to do some more research and try things until something works for you.
In my experience, with typical cone speakers, I found dead end at the...
Probably the last time you will see the two rivers in the opening scenes.
Someone on another forum asked if anyone wanted a bowl of Maester stew. Ewww, gross rapid fire overplaying of they particular set of scenes, but they got the point across.
It certainly isn't a great album for all the reasons you said:
- he can't sing
- it's minimalist
- he grabbed a lot of things from the past and added new lyrics that don't rhyme
- it's overtly political in concept
But he will make a ton of money on it just because it is him. You can;t tell me...
Try to get a schematic for the unit, if you can. If you can't then you can probably get pretty close in the analogue/signal processing level because most phono stages are pretty similar. You want to upgrade that one or two key resistor that is directly in the signal path, and any caps that are...
Going to see Brand X live next week. Yes, they are touring again after too many years retired. Worth checking out.
Also, Chic Corea is doing a big series of concerts in NYC this winter to celebrate an anniversary. Lots of special shows ranging from acoustic to electric to RTF reunion with...
I use a McCormack DNA500 amp on my Duetta Sig's. It has all the current and power you need to control an Apogee, but I would strongly suggest using tubes upstream of it in the preamp and phono stage. Not that it has any solid state harshness, it's just that Apogees will bloom even more with...
I think it is pretty simple. You work your ass off trying to be good, and innovative, and popular. Somehow you get a lucky break and you make it to the big time. Maybe you sell one big album, sometimes two, then your efforts are looked at as compromised because you are repeating your successful...
I think Graz will sell you the tweeter for a DIY project, but nothing else. He told me there were so many complications with the bass ribbon installation process that people screwed it up and broke the fragile ribbon all the time, so he leaves it to his trained installers only now.
I use a McCormack DNA500 on my Duetta Sig's. Yeah, it is probably overkill having 1000-1200 watts into their 3-4 ohm load, but this hobby is all about a bit of overkill, isn't it.
In the backwards philosophy of recent trading, good financial news could make the market go down, and bad financial news could make it go up.
Raising rates means the economy is strong, but it is a loss of easy money (well, not for a 1/4 point move really) = so this could raise the market.
Not...
I know the original Apogees had a reputation for being hard to drive. I think that was primarily due to the Scintilla, where Krell was the only thing that would handle them. That's not the case now though - lots of great amps and the other models have crossovers that are not so demanding, though...
Thanks for all your support guys. I have a variety of topics I plan to cover in time:
- a lot of financial stuff, since I worked on Wall St for 35 years this part is easy to write about for me
- relocation is heavily on our mind right now, so I will be covering that as we explore our options
-...
Nicks speakers are amazing also but he is driving them with Lamm electronics. And his room is larger so not a completely fair comparison. Neither uses a turntable so I know they can still improve on their sound over their digital rigs. And that it's saying something.
I own a pair of original Duetta Sig's with a revamped crossover. I updated this with new caps and resistors and potted the inductors, then put them in boxes outside the speaker cabinet. They are nothing short of phenominal and I have no bass buzz from them.
However, the friend I bought them...
