6550 used in ARC power supplies

Hello All and Thanks in advance for the help. I remember reading in a thread here that substituting an old USA make 6550 in the power supply of my Ref Phono 2se, Ref Line Stage 5se and my Ref 250se amps resulted in an improvement in bass reproduction. I've searched and can't seem to find that...

ARC Ref150 upgraded to KT150 bias?

I've just upgraded my ARC Ref150 amplifier to KT150 tubes from the stock KT120s. The manual states adjust bias to 65mVDC for the KT120 tubes. My question is what should I set the bias to for the new KT150s? Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

    RCA CPS-118 2 track tape

In my many years searching for the old RCA 2 track tapes I've found two copies of this one. The issue is both are very heavily recorded on the left side and very lightly on the right, even with balance all the way right it is still left heavy. Does anyone here have a copy of this tape and if so...

    Mid 50's RCA tape

Does anyone know who manufactured the tape used by RCA on their 2 track tapes in the mid to late 1950s? I've found that when I'm listening to mine, I almost never see any residue on the pinch roller or heads no matter how many I play. When I play more modern 4 track commercial tapes from many...

    Kudos to ARC

Many of you provided good advice when I was performing my once a decade or so equipment upgrade. I was so excited to be given the chance to acquire a new pair of ARC Ref 250se amps many months after they were discontinued. Well, the day before my winter break, my retirement job is a part time IT...

ARC Ref 150 upgrade to KT150 tubes

I have been enjoying my system since the ARC Ref 2se Phono and Ref 5se Line Stage. A friend mentioned I should consider upgrading the ARC Ref 150 to KT150 tubes from the KT120s it came with. What is the consensus of the ARC using people here on this upgrade? Is it just a tube swap or do other...

First major system upgrade in many years

I’ve found the older I get, I’ll be 75 this year, the less I’ve focused on the equipment and the more it’s been all about the music. I have not upgraded any of the electronics in almost 9 years. In the last 18 months or so, I’ve instituted the following upgrades: ARC Ref Phono to ARC Ref...

Looking at Upgrading my ARC Line Stage Ref 2 Mk I to an ARC Ref 5se

Hello All, I've been listening to my LPs through an ARC Ref Phono and Ref 2 Mk I Line Stage for many years. Recently I acquired a Ref 2se Phono and the improvement was substantial. This has got me thinking that maybe it's time to upgrade my current line stage to something like the Ref 5se...

I've been involved in audio since the late 50s and I've been a member of this forum since 2014 but, only made my first post this morning (I guess I'm getting slow in my old age). Here is a picture of my system as it is currently configured.
