The path for XDMS going forward
Today, Edward @EuroDriver visited us in the office in Oldenzaal and we just had our XDMS workshop, in which we discussed the best approach to move ahead with our software projects.
Since the inception of our own server/player software - first with TAS, and...
We do not recommend to unplug the Olympus, because of a special way we implemented the battery power supply. It would only run for a very limited amount of time.
The I/O is configured differently, but also there we do not recommend unplugging the unit while listening. Emile will soon drop some...
XDMI is built modular with output cards, where you can only have one at a time. This has several reasons, short signal path being one of them. The proprietary Lampizator output daughter card is a single output interface, meaning you cannot have Lampizator output and analog RCA out...
Indeed we are still using Optane, which has proven itself to also be the best option in the Olympus. Music drive and OS drive are physically separated.
Our policy has a always been that we are installing storage pretty much at cost, we strongly recommend to go with our tested and approved options.
Yes, migrating the Extreme drives to the Olympus is not an option we recommend. It has been thoroughly tested and this particular u.3 option is very audibly better.
Since not all exhibitors have publicly announce their lineup yet, we'd rather not disclose this ahead of our partners - Olympus will have great company :)
Olympus Update
We are happy to announce that we have finally settled on a storage option for the Olympus server.
The team in our listening room / laboratory has spent days over days, testing pretty much every possible option out there, the Olympus will ship with a single u.3 drive.
These are...
Thanks, I am very much looking forward to that too!
I was shocked to learn that Kölsch has made it across the pond: New York Times
Regarding the Olympus production schedule, we will soon announce the timeline and some accompanying (imho very good) news regarding the product, I am sure you...
Dear What’s Best community,
I am absolutely thrilled to announce my start at team Taiko in Oldenzaal today.
After a short engagement at Taiko approximately 4 years ago in the context of a Sabbatical (senior passengers on the Taiko Train might remember), I just could not refuse Emile’s offer...
Steve,
you have formulated my exact train of thought. But since my DAC is precisely in that $10-$20k range, I am hopeful TACDA will not only equalize but pull ahead.
In anticipation I even sold off my Ayre MXR monos, since I used my Bricasti also for volume control, which TACDA does not offer...
Good to hear and unfortunately not surprising at all. It seems to me Roon has considerably shortened their release cycles. Luckily we have XDMS to the rescue!
Is this with streaming or with local files?
A pause with local files could point to an all too common troublesome roon release. Once queued, roon continues playing even if you unplug the network cable. I doubt the switch could be at fault im this scenario.
Hi Rocco,
this is currently a general Roon problem, not related to Taiko / SGM.
Roon on my Extreme is working just fine, while Roon on a friend's Non-Taiko Server is exhibiting the same problem you are describing.
There is a thread on the roon forum called "search in roon stopped working"...
In my humble opinion, after 3 years of production and almost 500 pages on this thread, you can hardly call this server as being in beta phase.
In my book, having a component that is constantly being refined and tweaked by some of the best ears in the industry is a fantastic benefit. Getting this...
Today started with good news when Emile's confirmation of a completed update reached me.
Like everybody else I was very eager to experience the update myself, after all those glowing pre-reviews - and I was not let down!
The change was apparent after the first few seconds of listening - easily...
Hi Ron,
I am using the same Bricasti Dac and consider the 3 (with the 1 bit DSD converter) DAC options a real value.
While with my former Nola speakers I preferred the delta sigma, with my current Eggs I prefer the r2r.
However, the digital filter (min / lin phase) has just as great (or small...
Hi Jeffy,
I am also running the M21 in my system, it is a great DAC!
When I got mine end of last year, I compared the onboard streamer to the USB connection. The comparison took all of 5 minutes, it was no contest at all. USB from the Extreme (with Sablon 2020 USB cable) won hands down, music...
While I do not know the exact answer, I suggest to inquire at Aevee labs. The company consists of ex Madrigal engineers and they do contract work for e.g. Bricasti nowadays. If you are lucky, the designer(s) of the above components works there now.
It is the receiving end (i.e. your DAC) that dictates that. if you DAC's USB receiver is self-powered, you will still be able to use your unpowered Sablon.
