I think you over-estimate the reach of forums and blogs into our hobby. I think the # of folks who‘d have genuine interest and means to acquire such a beast is only slightly represented on WBF. I’m confident ddk has a large customer base from many years in audio and besides Peter we don’t hear...
Mike, thanks for posting and for your summary. Nice to see lots of gear was noted from “good enough” to “stand out”… I think this speaks well for the hobby. System matching of course is key, but lots of choices for the hobbiest. Not everyone is chasing the grail, many just want to assemble an...
Its a crazy wild design, to my eyes a little less garish than Wadax, but with a certain early StarTrek alien planet gestalt. Love the strobe markings on the platter… if speed is dialed in for 33, is it automatically dialed in for 45? Or does the strobe light frequency change (since there are not...
I’m sure they are… but i am 100% ignorant of David’s approach. American vs Italian attempting to solve the same problem who would expect anything but a few similarities at best — Ford vs Ferrari! (And I am not using “Ford” as a pejorative, quite the opposite in this case.)
What is you level of...
Yes in case of Vyger, the spindle is ~2 inch diameter. Air pressure less than 1 bar. Even more fun… somehow Giuseppe also incorporates vacuum hold-down.
In the case of VYGER, there is no bearing, only air. I can’t say for David’s design but I’m sure Peter can tell us. I’m going to guess David’s table also uses no bearing ‘cause a bearing is always going to introduce ‘something’ certainly not ‘nothing’.
Well, Pilium sure works with Alsyvox, that much is for sure. And the Vyger table has DRIVE so it can really rock!
A little more from Gaucho… Babylon Sisters
Bob in Brooklyn has a couple models of Odeon, I think David in Sausalito too. I’ll likely bring in Lorenzo before Odeon. I have some Heretic 612s on the way.
My experience with SET amps is embryonic so looking forward to learning once my amp arrives in a couple weeks.
All said, do not...
I have certainly never considered charging anyone to audition components though maybe I ought to? More common for me to have some snacks available (charcuterie board) and offer a nice glass of wine (I won‘t pour something I wouldn’t like, and I enjoy nice wine). This allows an opportunity to...
Last year, at Axpona, I was working in the Bayz room with Zoltan. I’d play Copeland’s “Fanfare” followed by Yello’s “Oh Yeah”. The room was packed - lots of smiles, and one guy commented “best demo tracks I’ve heard all day!”
(of course, somebody else likely felt “yuk”)
Working with Bob @ PNW...
Couple years back I did Pacific Audio Fest with Bob.east. I had only heard (for the first time) “Keith Don’t Go” shortly before the show, thought it made a decent demo track. I mentioned this to Bob and he gave a stare… “don‘t play that track” he said. I asked why he said it was overplayed at...
Over in the “long term loans to reviewers” thread, the topic diverted briefly to brink-n-mortar stores vs appointment only shops…
How do you shop for new gear? After reading reviews, or visiting shows, how do you narrow your decision process?
Do you consider “appointment only” shops (in a...
Everyone gets to choose how they engage in this hobby. Bricks-n-mortar stores are few and far between, and few have truly well sorted rooms. The industry is changing and for boutique and bespoke manufacturers unlike the big commercial heavyweights private intimate experiences is often...
Lots of words could be written as to the why of this, changing priorities and a shrinking customer base not the least of which.
Speaking for myself, I’d invested a fair amount in an acoustic remodel of an existing space in my home before I became affiliated with Rhapsody.Audio, so the benefit...
Those guys are paid to suffer. Since nobody’s paying me, and I’m not at a ‘competitive’ age, I’m happy to trade some speed for comfort (and body position.) Getting into a “tuck” isn’t feasable — I might end up with bones sticking out where they were nicely attached before.
(oK, I can make a...
I have half-dozen 25mm Vittoria Open Corsa CX (new in-box, from several years back) if you want to try a fast, supple tire. Hardly a jump up from a 23 but would allow a few less psi and smoother ride. Ping me if interested.
Lets face it, a dealer (in whatever capacity they identify at the moment) visiting another dealer and then posting a [crappy] video is unprecedented. Ron walking the knifes edge here between dealer and hobbiest he’s on the wrong side. And Ron, being the cerebral guy he is, should get this.
I...
Did not mean to ascribe ill-intent. But there are consequences to posting video snips (as you acknowledge) and as I said is my opinion this is disrespectful to do to a competitor. There was a reason Alon Wolfe did not originally want video clips of the M9s floating around the webs.
Ron is...
I know Ron. I like Ron. I find an ethical issue for one dealer to visit another and post anything about that other than “we had a nice social visit and enjoyed some music together.” Or, ‘I was amazed to learn all the ways the room was engineered” and a discussion about that.
My posts received a...
Well I personally don’t understand the visit? Ron sells a competing panel speaker, and has heard what Chris offers elsewhere — so that aspect is suspicious.
He goes to a place with one of the premier speakers available (M9) and doesn’t allow time for a genuine audition? Is the purpose to do a...
Then the tests and results of the guys @ Rene Herse, and the two fellows in the video noted above, are to be dismissed? When you are faced with test results that disprove your hypothesis skinny tires are faster you ignore and only post about “confirming high pressure skinny is faster is easy“...
Rolling resistance is but one factor in determining performance of the rider/bike system, and why skinny tires do not prove to be faster in real world. Else, pro riders would be still on 19mm tires.
Yeah, at this age and fitness I’ll take a wide, supple tire at low pressure and not need a mouthguard to protect my teeth from being rattled out of my head. I’m gonna need ‘em teeth for that tasty tasty steak I’m having post-ride.
