DaVa FC-A1 a field coil contender

I truly envy you, not only for the chance to hear Massimo66's system and enjoy his generous hospitality, but to visit Sicily and see its glories past and present. I raise a glass of Tenuta delle Terre Nere to you both. As the French say--profitez bien!

The Greatest Rachmaninoff 3rd of all time?

To those of you who enjoyed Yunchan Lim’s Rach 3, I would urge you to listen to his live recording at the Van Cliburn Competition of Liszt’s Transcendental etudes. You can hear it via Qobuz or buy the CD…or of course suffer through it on Youtube… While the recorded piano sound by Steinway and...

    LP flattener

The DF0-1iA allows one to turn off the heating part of the cycle at any time. I've successfully flattened warped 110-30g records by using the Medium setting on the DF0-1iA and then turning it off after one hour.... I've never wrecked a record with the DF0-1iA...but with Vinyl Flat I had...

The new audiophile vinyl series The Original Source from Deutsche Grammophon (AAA)

The mistracking on some of the Original Source DG reissues—the second batch to be specific—seems to belong as much to the making of the records than to their playback, as explained here...

An Explanation of the Term "Suspension of Disbelief"

Don’t audiophiles have to suspend their disbelief when they listen to digital? Or is it when they listen to vinyl and can’t believe what they are hearing from a 19th century invention….? Or do we suspend our disbelief about what we are hearing when we know (or don’t know) how much the system...

    LP flattener

True, but placing the record in the felt sandwich removes all doubt. I have a number of guard-less records (early Blue Notes and other 50s era jazz pressings) so I don't have to worry about it. The one real limitation of the Orb is its inability to certainly flatten lightweight records, ie...

    LP flattener

Yes I have years of experience with Vinyl Flat....years of unsatisfying experience. Hit or miss, and some mangled lps to boot. I would imagine a similar outcome with the UK Record Pi. A Hoffman thread on it indicates the same sort of experience I had with Vinyl Flat. I would recommend to...

    LP flattener

I have Orb DF01ia and it has worked flawlessly. It does have a cool down period that is most likely similar to the Relax function on the other flattener. Note that Zeotrope's problems are with another Orb model. None of us using the Orb DF01ia are having any problems with it.

The new audiophile vinyl series The Original Source from Deutsche Grammophon (AAA)

There are also available through Amazon and Target (!). I bought the first set direct from DG (minus the Schubert). They arrived last week here in northern Ca. Haven't listened yet as I want to clean first. The Beethoven and Stravinsky were admirably flat, but the Mahler 5s were warped. A...

    T.H.E. Show 2023-Steve's photos

I attended on Saturday and Sunday, for about four hours total. Visited the Evolution room on both days, and sat along with about 20 others in the Joseph Cali Gryphon room Sunday morning. My favorites included the Songer, Tannoy and the rooms featured the Lansche speakers—also the Metis speakers...

DaVa FC-A1 a field coil contender

You should query Darius. He could probably provide a list of many different tonearms that have successfully been matched with the various DaVas. The cartridge weight is one major factor. I had an Acoustical Systems Aquilar--a great tonearm--but it didn't play nicely with the DaVa, even though...

    Identification of members

I think all dealers should be given a sub forum called Weeta. All others should be in a sub forum called bix (note the non-capitalization). While this might unfairly tilt toward UK users, at least those chaffed (not chuffed) are in a forum called by the first name of the greatest white trumpet...

Jeff's New Music Room, the Return of Jeffrey_t

I visited Jeff’s place this past December. He took time out of his schedule to host me for a visit and long listening session—a huge thanks for that! If you think the room looks and sounds wonderful in pics, you should see and hear it in person. Kudos to Jeff on a great system and a great...

Should forums such as this have norms? Are rules necessary to enforce the norms? Or should we rely on self-control and self-constraint…you remember…that wonderful human ability that so many practice in their daily life… Obviously self-constraint does not work--by itself. Oh and those who have...

And many thanks to Lief and Bill for telling us what this was and explaining patiently how to get it to work best. Their bona fides prompted me to dive right in to the DaVa pool months ago....one of the best audio decisions I have ever made.

DaVa FC-A1 a field coil contender

So this happened because you had both mono and stereo Davas plugged into the dual tube psu, right? I have the same psu and am planning on getting the mono DaVa eventually, so it sounds like only one cart at a time should be plugged into the dual psu.....

    Another Apogee thread? You bet!

My pair of Apogee Duetta Sigs—entirely and impressively redone by Jon Oakey following Justin’s spec—are about 87db efficient, according to Jon. Magnets were not redone, but I gained maybe a db. After the rebuild, not satisfied with how higher frequencies were handled my room, I entirely redid...

Yes I have the black gate cap on the DaVa along with a bypass cap. Here is the battery supply story...it is long... When I moved house and set up my room for audio, I had three dedicated lines put in by the same electrician who worked on the house when it was built (before my time, in 2008)...

A few weeks ago I received the Precious One phono preamp from Dalius Razanas of Rada. This is the “silver version with a maximum upgraded power supply for 120 V. All tubes NOS: 6X4 as a rectifier; 2X 6AU6WA (GE or TungSol) as input tubes and…very rare French 5687 as output tube” to quote the...

Do Mobile Fidelity Vinyl Re-issues Have a Digital Step in the Process?

The digital front page of the Washington Post just put this up: https://www.washingtonpost.com/music/2022/08/05/mofi-records-analog-digital-scandal/ Excerpt: Mike Esposito still won’t say who gave him the tip about the records. But on July 14, he went public with an explosive claim. In a...

Good audio reproduction as performance art ....

The Times piece is itself odd, looking at this fellow and his speaker creations through a fashion lens, but also kind of like an advert for him. You can tell the writer has no idea about audio, so he is writing about it as a hip(?) cousin to ....fashion? But Turnbull seems to have found...
