The way Inline Six characterizes things sounds right to me.
I have no idea if this is correct but I read from reports that the sonic differences in stone bodies were trivial* and covered up by sample to sample build variation (as Inline Six says), but that different stone bodies were used...
Then what is the meaning of: "When we see a great distance behind the speakers, our brain pereceives it as depth and adds it. And it's also gone when you close your eyes"?
If you are suggesting that the sonic sensation and presentation that the sound-stage develops wholly behind the plane of the speakers is a visually-induced delusion, than I strongly disagree. It doesn't go away when I close my eyes. In fact, sometimes I close my eyes to hear it more clearly...
"Without a detrimental effect" is subjective. To my ears and experience and preference having the sound-stage develop behind the plane of the speakers is a very different presentation than a flat presentation with little depth and sound-staging, or than a sensation that the sound is projecting...
I thought "we" -- the collective we -- had gotten past a snipe like this -- which accomplishes the unusual linguistic trick of being both vacuous and arrogant.
The question I am interested in here is how does this loudspeaker system compare sonically to the flagship offering from Avantgarde and...
Seriously, thank you for your post. :)
I had a whole inventory of pancakes to put on reels last year. The whole job, thankfully, is now done.
Out of around 40 pancake surgeries, I screwed up only one tape: the first couple of minutes of the first track of an Air Supply album. (Not a huge loss.)
Nothing could be easier? Is this a matter for the Hyperbole Police?
The Detective on Duty there is suggesting to me a number of things that potentially could be easier than dealing with tape pancakes. Eating a chocolate bar, for example, he suggests.

This explanation supports my sonic cues theory, which explains why – – even though we hear substantially the same thing in the concert hall in the same seat – – our stereo systems end up sounding materially different.

This discussion is interesting because to me it sounds in the matrix of alternative high-end audio objectives. In fact the same words used in this discussion ("reproduction" and "recreation") are used in the terms of the differing objectives.
The idea of "recreation" suggests...
Welcome to WBF, Val!
Thank you very much for writing here, and for answering questions which have been asked!
It is exciting to learn that ARC is working on new products!
This is, obviously, totally subjective, but to me "neutral" and "neutral without being cold and analytical" result in two different sets of recommendations.
Neutral solid-state without being cold and analytical to me suggests CH and Soulution.
I consider Boulder to be so neutral as to be...

Of course I agree with this. But the depth and the sound-staging I heard in Todd's room was very familiar to me and to what I am accustomed in terms of a great sense of depth and the sound-stage developing wholly behind the plane of the speakers.
Unlike with horns up against the front wall (in...
Another set-up with the horns pretty much up against the front wall. I think it is traditional AG set-ups like this from which casual auditioners conclude (mistakenly) that "horns don't soundstage."
I attended the Pretend School of Loudspeaker Design over the weekend, so I would love to see a 15 inch field coil woofer on the top and on the bottom, with two S1x drivers in the middle, all open baffle!
Hi Elliot,
This is purely subjective, but I actually like it when a high-end audio company does not update their products every year or two. Aesthetix and VTL both have very long product cycles. Both companies make quiet, in-production improvements along the way, without declaring a new model...
