I have no experience of the Sony and EMT you mention, however imho the current 1200G is a very different beast to it’s predecessors.
A few years ago Fremer posted recordings of his then TT of choice (Continuum Audio Labs) compared to the SL1200G, the difference was marginal.
Prior to my 1200 I...
Very interesting bit of audio history there. Sad to hear of Howard's passing I bought some Isobariks from him and talked to him about further developing a tone arm I had built back in the 1980s.
I bought the SL1200G a couple years ago. I chatted to Arthur at the Bristol show last year and a couple of people who have used his mods.
I ended up getting an achromat and houdini, they both helped to make an improvement.
I had a Kuzma XL/dc 4pt for many years - I dont miss it at all, the...
I heard a 1210 with the supertrac and it sounded very good. I have a SL1200G and thought about fitting the Blackbird - does look like a bit of a mission to do on a 1200G though.
Very interesting and also reassuring to see confirmation of my own findings. I downsized a few years ago due to a house move and settled on the Mola Makua pre with the built in Dac (Tambaqui) and phono (Lupe) as a compact alternative to my Ypsilon VPS100 phono and Ypsilon PTS pre amp and...
The Technics is improved with a Funk Firm Achromat and better headshell. Also the Funk houdini with the right cartridge can be very helpful and can take the arm out of the equation to some extent. Also I do like the accuracy of tone you get with the direct drive it is amazing for the price. But...
The 4pt was the original one 11 inch I think so slightly shorter than ref313. From memory I feel the 313 was a bit more relaxed. It tracked very well and produced a more engaging sound than the SME 20/20, I had previosly , when I first explored purchasing the XL. This was in a side by side...
I had a Kuzma XL later upped to XL DC for many years with 2 arms, 4pt and ref 313, Lyra Atlas - great sounding TT .
I had to downsize the system a couple of years ago for a house move. I was thinking of ditching vinyl but I still had a couple of thousand LPs so I purchased a Technics SL1200G...
I used the 4pt with my Kuzma XL x 4 , latterly the DC version, since 2010 and enjoyed them immensely. A couple of years ago I had to relocate and consequently needed to downsize my system. I now run a Technics SL1200GR with some modifications and am staggered to realise it outperforms my...
Hi, am thinking of getting a pair of Martin Logan 11a speakers, I am moving and need to downsize. I would need a suitable power amp, not sure if valve or solid state works best with them, also something sensibly priced in the UK, ie; 4-6k gbp.
Would be grateful for any experience members have...
Can only concur with nenon's comments here. Having spent a considerable amount of time on audiophile style during the last year eventually constructing a server that out performs the commercial servers I have tried (not SGM :D), playing files locally from NVMe storage is the way to go. I guess...
I have a Lampizator GG and have gradually improved the streaming facility (playing local files) from lap top, 1st diy server through to my latest server build (photo attached). Each build has improved the sound coming from the GG, I tried an Auralic server streamer and it was not as good...

2 The Story Of The Kalandar Prince 11:11
3 The Young Prince And The Young Princess 9:36

I use a Lampi GG with KR242s, they produce excellent dynamics. However the streamer/network can influence the sound including dynamics as much as the DAC. The GG has responded to bespoke streaming and network set up incredibly.
I have a 4 yr old much modded GG1. I had quite a few issues with it after an upgrade to take 242s and almost gave up on it, Ked persuaded me to persevere. After numerous repair trips it sounds wonderful. The KR anniversary 5U4G and KR 242s have proved to be an excellent combination .
I have just...
Precisely, as you say there are many excellent turntables - we all have our individual listening priorities that will influence equipment purchasing decisions. Plus being lucky enough to be able to make a choice by comparing two or three contenders all fitted with the same arm, cart and through...
yes I take your point - your hifi odessy has taken you far and wide and must be fun and informative.
if you weren't a commitment phobe ha ha and purchased a brinkman or Motus, and everything else you would need, my guess is you would probably want to change or upgrade sooner or later. When you...
I have a Kuzma XLDC (4pt and ref 313 arms) which I am very pleased with. I don't think it lacks flow - Ked has heard it a few times and I am guessing it is not his cup of tea, he has not actually commented on on the sound of the TT (probably out of politeness!) - we have usually been comparing...
